On the face of it, it looks like an unlikely story following a prisoner on death row in the United States, a vicar in a quiet English town, and a maths teacher trapped in a cellar.

What’s their connection, you may ask?

According to the synopsis, the story follows a US prisoner on death row (Tucci), who is seeking atonement as he faces execution. It continues: “On a train in England, a journalist (West) is looking for a story. In a quiet little village, a vicar (Tennant) is picking up his son’s maths tutor (Dolly Wells) from the station.

“All four are about to be entangled in a dilemma that could lead one of them to murder.”

And as the synopsis also states: “Everyone’s a murderer – you just need a good reason and a bad day.”

Like we said, this series has a star-studded cast. Tennant plays Harry Watling, Tucci plays Jefferson Grieff, West plays Beth Davenport while Dolly Wells (Pursuit Of Love) plays Janice Fife.

The cast also includes Lyndsey Marshal (Dracula), Atkins Estimond (Hightown), Mark Quarterly (Cursed), Tilly Vosburgh (Maigret), Louis Oliver (Midnight Mass), Kate Dickie (The Witch) and Dylan Baker (Hunters).

Just binged watched this. Not sure what to think 🤣 Came here to see if anyone recognised Janice as the model from the IT crowd at Jens dinner party. To be honest all I could think about was Roy trying to get her to go out with him 🤣 Never seen her in anything else.

Was she? I didn't notice that.

She was Sister Agatha van Helsing in Stephen Moffat's gloriously bonkers Dracula.

Does anyone know what the music was that the Vicar was playing while he waiting for the countdown for the CO to have done it's work?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/10/2022 00:31

I am pretty sure it was the 3rd movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (14)

It starts about 8 minutes in.

LoveMyPiano · 11/10/2022 10:27

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude

Thank you!
Too difficult for me, I think - but I can always give it a try. I do like Beethoven but would never have known - you're a star x

I've just twigged Grieff deliberately sent the guys with spades to the vicarage via FIL.. d'oh!

What? I must have completely missed this, did not see any mention of where they were supposed to be looking for the wife's head....

He gives the vicarage address saying that the location of wides head to husband

bur was really doing it to save Janice

which is weird for a killer

unless he saw a pic of Janice and knew she was his wife

unless that is a red herring and she isn’t

we will have to wait for s2

Janice isn't his wife.

He sent the blokes to the vicarage because he knew Janice was there and to save her. His own wife's head was a complete red herring.

Just finished this, and only read last two pages, but I found this utterly disturbing. Why did he stop her from leaving in the first place…?! I was nearly in tears from the tension. It was so uncomfortable. I found the violence almost overwhelming.

Janice made the whole ridiculous thing watchable. She was great. Didn’t much believe in Beth the journo, what was her motivation, just didn’t really add up.

And I quite liked DT and his wife, who was angry and loving at the same time. Could really relate to that feeling when I or my partner has done something silly, and needs chiding/loving simultaneously.

Emotionalsupportviper · 12/10/2022 22:38

quite liked DT and his wife . . . Could really relate to that feeling

TortusMaximus · 12/10/2022 23:13

Hah! More in the sense of someone having said/done the wrong thing that impacts everyone - rather than accidentally trying to kill someone 😂

"Janice made the whole ridiculous thing watchable. She was great. Didn’t much believe in Beth the journo, what was her motivation, just didn’t really add up."

I'm pretty sure that's because Beth's last name is MacGuffin 😂 @TortusMaximus

Italiangreyhound · 13/10/2022 14:20

Anyone recognize Janice as Woney from Bridget Jones' Diary?

Novum · 19/10/2022 01:12

I watched Episode 1 today but don't think I can be bothered to watch the rest. I quite enjoyed the bits with Stanley Tucci, but there was simply no logic in David Tennant's character not sticking with the truth about the memory stick, or indeed the tutor refusing to believe him about it. And it went downhill in the logic stakes from there onwards.
