The cast is great and I am intrigued by the setting/sweeping scenery etc and it now all on Paramount.
So is it worth investing time?

Does anyone know why the latest series has suddenly stopped at episode 7. Is it because of Xmas?

I was wondering the same and read something about a mid season break. 🤷‍♀️

Netaporter · 29/12/2022 09:49

I was all ready Boxing Day to catch up and then… 😭

Roll on Monday!

Arseulaundress · 03/01/2023 18:47

We're almost at the end of season 1, and we are feeling disappointed. We do not get much of a sense of plot. The characters are mostly one-dimensional. The body count seems extraordinary.

Yes, the scenery is stunning, and I am often a fan of Costner's acting roles, but they are all just so toxic.

Very late to the party with this series but halfway through season 4 now. It’s brilliant. Things make much more sense as you go along. The best thing I’ve watched on TV for years.

It's all very good although Series 5 a bit weaker and has stopped half way through until June.
Once you finish Yellowstone you can watch 1883 and 1923 which are just as good if not better in the case of 1923. The scenery and horses are stunning in all 3 shows.

Can people who love this series please explain to me what on Earth they love about it? It's just terrible. Beth has to be the worst female character of all time in TV or film! She's absolutely insufferable, as is her idiotic beau Rip. The script is unrealistic beyond belief and it's basically just a horrible murderous family who have no redeeming qualities. I keep wishing something bad happens to all of them (Beth/Rip/John especially!) but nothing ever does. Aside from the scenery and a few rodeo scenes, why are people rating this show so highly?

It's fantastic, and 1883 as well which is the prequel. Best thing I've watched in a long time

I realise this is a strange question.. The prequel was made after series 1..so do I start with the prequel now that I have the option, or do you do season 1 first? Sorry, it could be interpreted either way for me, and I've had this on my radar the past few days.

XelaM · 07/08/2023 05:50

The only decent-ish member of their family is Jamie (although he also obviously has a few bodies on his count) but they all hate him with a passion and spoiler alert the insane bitch Beth of course always prevails.

Honestly the show itself is terrible. Maybe the prequel is better. 🤷‍♀️

The script and characters of the actual Yellowstone are so so bad. They are all caricatures and the script is just a jumble of words in no particular order and with no sense - plus MANY MANY MANY fights and murders for no reason.

HolidaySetting · 07/08/2023 06:23

I thought it was absolutely dreadful. I’m amazed at all of the positive reviews here. It was full of macho blokes doing ridiculously macho American things. There was only really one female character and she spent a lot of time pissed and naked. The whole thing felt like it was written and directed by a 15 year old boy.

reducemug · 07/08/2023 06:25

Absolutely brilliant TV. I am watching from the beginning again on C5.

You need to get past the first 3/4 episodes in series 1 for it to start to grip you though.

Maggiesgirl · 07/08/2023 06:31

I love 1883 & 19233 but can't stand Yellowstone, as much as I love Kevin Costner.

The Beth character is really annoying. I got to episode three and switched it off.

My thoughts exactly! Every single character was horrible, apart from Casey's wife who kept having horrible things happen to her. I found it a really miserable watch and gave up about halfway through the first season. Beautiful landscapes though.

tennissquare · 07/08/2023 07:08

There is a reason why Beth acts as she does which becomes apparent in Series 2. It was the number 1 show in America because it's so watchable especially once you get into Series 2 but it's stopped now mid season series 5 which is very annoying.

I honestly don’t think it will be back due to the fallout with Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner. TS has his fingers in so many shows now - Lioness is good. Still waiting on 6666 coming out.

tennissquare · 07/08/2023 07:48

@reducemug , thanks for the Lioness tip. Yes I don't think it will be back due to the schedule of the other actors too, I hope we see some of them in other series and maybe Kelly Reilly back in the U.K. as she is from Surrey!

I saw the reason, but it doesn't excuse her behaviour. She's just utterly vile and unwatchable. I'm really struggling to think of a worse female character in any film or TV. The men aren't much better, especially Rip and John himself who are just horrible people with no redeeming qualities and both idiotic.

I agree with @HolidaySetting who said the show feels like it was written by a 15-year-old kid. All the women are sluts who drag men into bed kicking and screaming and all the men just kill and punch anything in sight for absolutely no reason and with zero consequences.

Netaporter · 07/08/2023 10:14

@XelaM for me, it’s a bit like the escapism of Dallas or Dynasty from the 80’s. It isn’t trying to be cerebral or a social commentary on modern day life and I’m good with that. I personally like it because I don’t have to think too hard when I watch it. Line of Duty it is not 😂 I think the very different surroundings/way of life make it deal escapism tv. I suspect it is popular in the states because of the macho element and a strong female character. The writer, Taylor Sheridan is an actor who realised he was never going to be cast any better than number 11 on a call sheet so decided to write instead. He has an eye watering contract with Paramount so fair play to him. He isn’t pretending he’s the new Arthur Miller, he just writes the tv equivalent of easy watching.

By the time you get to Series 4 & 5, you realise Jamie is not nice at all 😉

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel the spin offs have nothing to do with the current series save for adding to the family tree. 1883 is the Dutton Family journey across America (including why they settle in Montana) and 1923 the next generation and the establishing of the Yellowstone ranch. I preferred the modern day series, mainly because of Rip and KC.

Yeah, you lost me when you said sluts. TV or not, it’s not acceptable really.

Yes

It's not me who is portraying women this way!! The screenplay has every single woman get undressed and most of the time trick/convince the men into bed. Beth hardly has time to put clothes on between her rants about who she has blown and what size junk everyone has, but it's not just her - it's every woman in the show (except Monica I guess who is always sad). Not the way people behave in any business meetings I have ever been in 🤷‍♀️

Fair enough. I can see how it's a bit of escapism. I guess if it wasn't for Beth's repulsive character who is always on screen I could get past most of the bad writing. Funnily enough, I also think Rip and KC's characters are really hard to like and I'm always rooting against them. I can't see anything likeable about them. Kacey and Jamie I quite like though and the poor bunkhouse guys who constantly get abused by Rip.

XelaM · 07/08/2023 12:11

One thing I did like were the bits about Native American traditions and they all appear more likeable and human than the redneck hillbilly ranchers of whom KC is the worst.

It's not exactly sequential, you could probably watch in any order. It's a stand alone origin story it's not intended to lead directly into any events in Yellowstone
