I don't want to imagine how insufferable Kyrgios will be if he gets to the final.

magimedi · 07/07/2022 12:06

I've got no internet access at home so can't watch.

Don't think I'd want to watch if it'sa Kyrgios/Djock final ...

ChessieFL · 07/07/2022 12:07

Thanks Jane, I hadn’t seen his press conference.

Has it ever happened in a Grand Slam that someone has had to withdraw from the final )either before or during) so the other player wins it by default?

JaneJeffer · 07/07/2022 12:17

Oh no magi that's annoying hope you're feeling better

I've got Reid/Hewitt on in the background while I'm trying to get stuff done. Very noisy crowd!

Apparently the only player to win by default was Sidney Wood in 1931 Chessie bit before my time Grin

Thanks Jane, I did Google but couldn’t find anything. I didn’t think it was common!

Raahh · 07/07/2022 12:50

GrinJane
No, I couldn't find any slams where it happened- not recently.

The tour final one was really the most 'high profile' last minute withdrawal I could think of.

I am torn between wanting him to play- and not wanting him to because he risks being injured and losing badly. And if he loses badly to anyone, I don't want it to be to Kyrgios. Or Djok.
The Rome QF was hard enough to watch.

This discussion about periods is interesting. Despite being a woman I had never thought of this. I do like the all white clothing tradition but I do think there should be flexibility for the women to wear black undershorts.

I agree.

Yes an interesting discussion about periods. I've often thought about how players coped with long matches in white undergarments (I'd always assumed regulation of periods using the pill etc) Good to hear a discussion and about time.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/07/2022 13:36

Hello tennis fans.

Here to watch Jabeur v Maria. So excited about this match. Grin

Whoever wins, it's a great story.

Mum reckons that that's why Heather Watson dropped out of a match a few years ago. She was saying she had stomach cramps and mum was like she had that aura about her

Can you precis the great story?
I'm watching today but haven't had time for the build up.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/07/2022 13:39

I'm watching on iPlayer and there's just one bloke commentating - maybe John Lloyd.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/07/2022 13:42

peerie. Ons and Tatjana are really good friends, which I love. Maria has come back to tennis after two maternity leaves, and is now playing the best tennis of her career. Her youngest child is 1.

Ons is the first North African tennis player to be at this level. So she's making history.

Oh, Caroline Wozniacki has turned up to commentate too. That is a relief.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/07/2022 13:44

This is a long first game!

peerie · 07/07/2022 13:48

Thank you, hard for friends, always good to have a proffessional at the helm - I really like Caroline.

IceandIndigo · 07/07/2022 14:04

Where was the period discussion?

Raahh · 07/07/2022 14:05

I like Caroline - she's having baby number 2 too, I think she announced it mid June. Her daughter must be about 1 now.
So that's nice.

Looks hot at Wimbledon today.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/07/2022 14:06

I love that they call Jabeur The Magician.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/07/2022 14:06

That's lovely news re Caroline.

IceandIndigo · 07/07/2022 14:07

It’s nice to be watching a match where I’d be happy for either player to win.

JaneJeffer · 07/07/2022 14:09

It was part of the Wimbledon programme earlier ice - various female players talking about their experiences and worries wearing white.

I really don’t mind who wins this match as I like both players and would be pleased to see either of them go through. I would like to see Simona go through from the next match - but nothing against Rybakina, I just don’t know much about her. Very different from the mens, where there are two semi finalists I definitely do not want to go through!

GrouchyKiwi · 07/07/2022 14:11

That was a fun point. Love their grins. Grin
