That's good timing, Ice Grin

JaneJeffer · 06/07/2022 20:33

Managed to watch Rafa till 7 then had to Zoom. Now caught up and OMG talk about tense, It was close and it could have gone either way.

Sorry the Aussie Greek won though hope he loses in the next round!

I had surgery and was told to avoid alcohol for two weeks. It will be two weeks on Saturday 😁🍾

That sounds like a nightmare!

Fizzywinegum · 06/07/2022 21:28

Everyone here is making plans to be out of the house on Friday evening - I’m not even sure that I want to watch Grin

The Mac phone in is funny if you can get BBC Sounds - someone asked him which tennis player had the best hair and he said Reilly Opelka - can’t believe he didn’t say Berrettini Shock

Apparently he played guitar onstage with the Eagles but his wife says that he can’t sing!

Phew I feel like I’ve been through the wringer today - can’t imagine how Rafa’s feeling

Fizzywinegum · 06/07/2022 21:29

Hope you can have a celebratory drink for Rafa on Sunday Ice!

Blueberrycreampie · 06/07/2022 21:33

Had a good look (ogle) at Feliciano today. Hope he's a permanent addition as he's fit!

Absolutely! Or else drowning my sorrows at yet another championship win for Djok.

I expect Rafa will play the semi - as he said he is used to pain - but if he did have to pull out injured I definitely think Fritz should be allowed to play Kyrgios in his stead, he was brilliant today. I felt a bit sorry for him after the match, he looked close to tears, but his time will come.

That’s depressing Jane.

I hope Rafa is fit to play on Friday. I bet Fritz will be pissed off if he isn’t - while it’s lovely to see Rafa win and to be able to say he got to the semi finals, if he is going to have to pull out it might have been better to do it during the match so Fritz could have a chance. I know Rafa will do everything possible to play though.

Maybe Rafa needs the winner’s money to pay for pushchairs and car seats.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 07/07/2022 07:26

Just marking my place here ready for more tennis!

Raahh · 07/07/2022 08:37

That is very depressing, Jane- though I'm not sure I'm surprised. The obsession with Kyrgios has reached new heights. Or lows- I suppose. It's so rude, and disrespectful to Ajla- and it was years ago. She will have been gutted by the loss -and that is the first thing someone asks?HmmAngry

Blueberrycreampie · 07/07/2022 09:20

Sorry if this has been mentioned- didn't see it, but did anyone notice Rafa's dad gesticulating wildly to him? At the time they said he was telling him to stop playing and leave the match as he was in pain. His dad must have been worried about him to do that! Do we know if that's correct, any more info on this?

ChessieFL · 07/07/2022 09:29

Blueberry they talked about that on TAW and the basic conclusion was that they couldn’t be sure that’s what Dad meant. I don’t think there’s been any ‘official’ confirmation from Rafa’s camp if that is what he was saying.

MinglingFlamingo · 07/07/2022 09:43

So to add to the Wimbledon scheduling tv schedule hopping theres also probably an extended news to contend with. There normally is for when a pm resigns

ChessieFL · 07/07/2022 09:58

Hope they don’t cancel Wimbledon coverage to talk about politics!

Ok thank you - he did look quite animated!

That is infuriating, I really feel for her. She's not even his current partner, they broke up years ago!

AndNorrieDancing · 07/07/2022 10:19

Chessie 5live was dreadful yesterday pulling away from the tennis to talk about bloody Boris.

Yes I watched Rafa's press conference and he confirmed they wanted him to stop playing.

He's having a scan today so he wouldn't confirm whether he'll play the semifinal until he knows more.

OP posts:
Raahh · 07/07/2022 11:37

Jane I read about his scan. He's been very 'Rafa' about things- that his health is the most important thing, and he won't do anything to jeopardise that.

Sebastian did look worried sick.

He's been on the other side of matches, as the loser, where the opponent has then withdrawn the next match. Steve Darcis springs to mind, at Wimbledon.

Even the tour finals has had Federer withdraw before the final (Djok then won by a walkover).

I'm going to miss a lot today, meetings at DD2s school. All at the wrong time Grin
Fingers crossed for Halep and Jabeur- although really, If Rybakina and Maria get through, they've played well to get there.

RaraRachael · 07/07/2022 11:46

Well Rafa pulled that out of the fire didn't he! I hope he's fit to give Krygios a good hiding tomorrow. Looking forward to the ladies' semis this afternoon. I don't mind which of them win, but Tatjana has such a lovely story.
