I'm back folks! It wasn't me...I stopped drinking at 699. Lol
The crowd were really behind Nick. Supporters shouting for Novak were rare. No one around me really had a favourite to win - much like on here. Most, as a result, wanted Nick to come up good and get a grand slam as he didn't have one. Underdog and all that.
Most of Nicks mutterings weren't decipherable where I was in gangway 203.
Once he started to make the errors towards the end it wasn't clear if he didn't have the stamina or the mental toughness to see it through, so it was good Novak closed it for the win.
I thought overall Nick came across as rather insecure. I'm sure a proper team around him is what he needs. At his best he was very entertaining to watch and has an incredible talent.
Novak definitely deserved the day though.
We also saw Alfie in the wheelchair singles final. His first set and start of the second. We wouldn't have managed to see it all. I was sorry he didn't win but he's earned a whole new raft of supporters for him and the sport - its great to watch.
We didn't stay for the ladies doubles as Dad's 81 and it had already been a long, hot, day and he was flagging. Mind you, I got him back to the hotel, he had a shower and marched me to the pub for cocktails!
A lovely, special, time together.
