Hazel Irvine has always been good at the presenting thing- she knows her sport.

Well done Barbora and Katerina.

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2022 19:16

I like Lee McKenzie doing interviews she might be good?

Raahh · 10/07/2022 19:18

I was about to say, Jane I've liked Lee's on court stuff this fortnight.

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2022 19:19

They stopped presenting the doubles trophies in the box.

OP posts:
Raahh · 10/07/2022 19:20

The doubles used to be on Court 1, didn't it- and they went into the stands for the trophy, not on court?

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2022 19:20

Jenny Drummond was good too.

Raahh · 10/07/2022 19:21

x-post re- the trophies.

How lovely that Barbora's parents are there.

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2022 19:22

Barbora is lovely and funny.

Her speeches at RG last year made me cry- memories of JanaNovotna. Martina was so proud too.

Andy Murray ! I bet they get him in to do a stint
Or someone from the five live team ?

Much as I love Andy - and I really love Andy - he’s not nearly personable enough to do the presenting job. Great as a commentator, though. I could possibly see Tim taking over the lead role from Sue? More likely to be Clare Balding, though.

Gah, I missed everything today - for once, TAW is going to be useful. Really glad Djokovic held out, though - knobby and all as he can be, he’s a serious professional sportsperson and he deserved the win today, unlike his opponent.

Kez200 · 10/07/2022 21:28

I'm back folks! It wasn't me...I stopped drinking at 699. Lol

The crowd were really behind Nick. Supporters shouting for Novak were rare. No one around me really had a favourite to win - much like on here. Most, as a result, wanted Nick to come up good and get a grand slam as he didn't have one. Underdog and all that.

Most of Nicks mutterings weren't decipherable where I was in gangway 203.

Once he started to make the errors towards the end it wasn't clear if he didn't have the stamina or the mental toughness to see it through, so it was good Novak closed it for the win.

I thought overall Nick came across as rather insecure. I'm sure a proper team around him is what he needs. At his best he was very entertaining to watch and has an incredible talent.

Novak definitely deserved the day though.

We also saw Alfie in the wheelchair singles final. His first set and start of the second. We wouldn't have managed to see it all. I was sorry he didn't win but he's earned a whole new raft of supporters for him and the sport - its great to watch.

We didn't stay for the ladies doubles as Dad's 81 and it had already been a long, hot, day and he was flagging. Mind you, I got him back to the hotel, he had a shower and marched me to the pub for cocktails!

A lovely, special, time together.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/07/2022 21:34

thanks for the update and so glad you and your dad had a good day @Kez200

Fizzywinegum · 10/07/2022 21:48

Sounds like a good day Kez for you and your Dad (I like the sound of the cocktails!)

I heard someone else saying that they were at a Kyrigos match (might have been the Tsitsipas one) and the crowd couldn’t hear what he was saying - it just gets picked up on TV so a lot of people actually at Wimbledon are oblivious to his rantings

I've just watched the tribute to Sue - it was so lovely - I’ll miss her a lot - she’s so knowledgeable and experienced - she’ll be a hard act to follow

GrouchyKiwi · 10/07/2022 21:54

Thank you for telling us about your day Kez. It sounds excellent. :)

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2022 22:19

Glad you had a lovely day Kez your dad sounds like a great person to have an outing with.

Saw a bit of Alfie's match. Such a shame he didn't win!
Just watched the BBC Sue tribute. Might have got something in my eye Wink She will be sorely missed. Not looking forward to possible replacements Hmm

Raahh have* *you seen the delectable Stefan on Wimbledon Instagram yet? So many memories Grin

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2022 23:06

Nice pic on Karen Hemsworth Khachanov's Instagram too

Morning all.

Kez it sounds like you had a great day, and your dad sounds fab. A lovely memory for you both, in what must be a very hard time.
I can imagine that a lot of things that we hear on tv are not noticed by the crowd. Microphones will pick things up.

kazza the pictures on Stefan's instagram bring back so many memories. Yet it feels like yesterday- when he won in 88, I had just done my GCSEs- and dd1 has just done her's. Grin

I could lie and say i am going to do lots of things I have neglected for weeks- but I won't. I will probably try and find out if Bastad is on Prime (it probably won't be, the 250s usually aren't Grin).

The grass could do with cutting...but it's too hot. Grin

absolutelynotfabulous · 11/07/2022 07:55

What a lovely day out for you and dad, @kez. What great memories you'll have.

I'll remember this Wimbledon because it's one of the few on which I haven't been working during the week. It's not quite the same on catchup. Also able to get up there for the first day which was lovely.

So many finals I haven't actually seen - like the Cash/ Lendl one. Managed Goran and Rafter though - 2001 was it? What a classic!

Looking forward to the Open now - wonder if No-vaxx will make it?

Raahh · 11/07/2022 08:13

absolutely at this point, Djok can't play in the US or Canada- and hopefully it will stay that way.

He shouldn't be allowed back into Australia either, having been deported, but I bet they get around that somehow.

I don't want to hear how hard done by he is though- he's made his decision and needs to own it. Unlike all the players banned from playing for reasons beyind their control. Grin

absolutelynotfabulous · 11/07/2022 08:34

Thanks @Raahh . Yes - he needs to own his decision.

Hoping for some fresh new faces! My money's on Alcaraz, and if he can sort himself out - Kyrgios. I thought some of his play was spectacular yesterday. What a serve!

MarshaBradyo · 11/07/2022 09:08

I’m glad he could play at Wimbledon I think it’s madness at this stage but it up to those countries

Raahh · 11/07/2022 09:31

JaneJeffer · 11/07/2022 09:46

Grin makes it funnier that the umpire asked "the on with the dots?"
