Rafa and Sascha both had hospital trips yesterday.

Sascha posted from his bed sounding groggy after his op but it seems to have gone ok. A long road back though.

Rafa had his ablation done. He said there's an operation they can do to fix his foot but he would not be able to play tennis anymore so he doesn't want to have it yet!

I remember last year Jane Rafa said something similar about surgery on his foot, and the option then was not to have the more invasive procedure. I'm sure at some point it will end up being a choice between tennis and just walking , since the condition is degenerative. Bit like players who need hips replacing, and aren't able to properly play after.

I hope Sascha is ok- I read the recovery is 6-8 weeks, and the plan is to be ready for the hard court swing /US open- but I suppose a lot depends on how well things heal.

Berrettini has been in action today and won his match, so that's some good news.

From RafaelNadalFans:

"it was noticeable after the final that neither Federer nor Djokovic posted a congratulatory message to Nadal on social media. However, Federer’s silence at least seems to have only been in the public forum.
“With Roger we have a good relationship and a special feeling,” Nadal told Sky Sports in Italy. “After the victory he wrote me a message to congratulate me.”
Very interesting Grin

It is interesting, Jane.

Djok, apparently, didn't even seem to think Rafa's injury was real. He was quoted last week saying- "I am not surprised, it's not the first time that he is injured and comes back pretty soon at 100 per cent."

Er- pot, kettle, eh, Novak? Bit like the abdomen injury in Australia 2021. Disappeared as soon as he was winning.

(Except the difference is, I think we are pretty certain Rafa wouldn't have crashed out of Rome, or had a procedure for a 'fake' injury).

JaneJeffer · 08/06/2022 14:56

I know the Spanish health service is miles ahead of the HSE but I think treating fake injuries is just showing off Grin

Raahh · 08/06/2022 15:08

Well, quite, Jane Grin

Fizzywinegum · 08/06/2022 16:20

Hmm Djok - definitely pot and kettle! Rafa still played on with a broken rib - Djok just pretends to be injured Hmm

On the tennis podcast there were rumours that Rog was staying with Arsene Wenger (possibly in Paris) and would give Rafa his final RG trophy but that didn’t quite work out

Hope that Sascha and Rafa recover soon

JaneJeffer · 08/06/2022 19:19

I've just seen an ad with Emma which reminded me that I read she had some kind of freak injury at Nottingham and it's now in question whether she'll be recovered in time for Wimbledon!

OP posts:
Raahh · 08/06/2022 19:48

Emma isn't having a whole lot of luck, is she?

ChessieFL · 09/06/2022 08:46

It is a shame Emma is so plagued by injuries. I suppose most players have similar when they first start on the tour, as they get used to playing so frequently, but most others just starting on the tour don’t have so much attention on them so it’s not so noticeable. I hope she doesn’t let the media pressure get to her.

Raahh · 09/06/2022 18:51

I've just seen that Sue Barker is stepping down after Wimbledon. That's a shame. I hope they replace her with someone decent for next year- the Beeb can be hot and miss with presenters. Maybe they can get Martina on board full time.

Raahh · 09/06/2022 18:53

*hit

JaneJeffer · 09/06/2022 18:57

Oh that's sad Raahh I think Sue gets it just right between humour and seriousness and at times has kept the whole show on the road when rain delays stopped play. I hope they don't get Claire Balding!
What will we do without the voice of doom?

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 09/06/2022 18:57

A hot presenter would be good Grin

I don't mind Claire in small doses, at least she is sporty and interested in what goes on. I don't think she could anchor the whole thing ( though some one less of a Fed fan girl would be good- probably not a big issue by next year).

AC has not been seen around much. I hope this doesn't mean a promotion.

Or worse. Heather Watson. She was not really a great presenter in 2020 during 'fake ' Wimbledon.

kazzaD66 · 09/06/2022 19:31

Gutted about Sue! An top ex-player who knew everything and everyone and therefore had respect. Great sense of humour aswell. Andy isn't happy Grin
Not looking forward to possible replacements. Clare Balding gets more annoying as the years go by. If the fuckwit butterfly fancier gets a bigger role, I will switch off Angry Tim will be too busy running the tournament Grin

I'm guessing Bear is playing Queen's because I think I saw something on his Instagram?

JaneJeffer · 09/06/2022 19:34

My Instagram seems to have gone bonkers. Keeps asking for my date of birth Hmm

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 09/06/2022 19:41

My Instagram changed a couple of weeks ago to a new format where everything merges into one and there's loads more suggested posts from people I have no interest in. I can't seem to change it back, so I'm f*ing fuming. Hardly look at it now Angry

Raahh · 09/06/2022 20:00

What will Hacker do?? Sad

There's not likely to be a role for (our) Boris now is there.

It's all very sad.

And I'm saying it now- but if the BBC decide Alex Scott can do tennis (like they think she can do everything else) - it might be the end of my tennis watching. I find her more annoying than AC, if it's possible- but at least he has a tennis connection.

Raahh · 09/06/2022 20:03

Maybe Andrew Cotter(and his dogs) can do it. I wouldn't mind that. Andrew Cotter is great, really funny. And I love Olive and Mabel. Grin.

Raahh · 09/06/2022 20:11

Kazza I think I've got it- Judy Murray! She can be the NEW SUE!

She would be great. She has has great sense of humour, has already got a following with the BBC via Strictly. I think she could be a really good presenter.

Go Judy Grin

JaneJeffer · 09/06/2022 20:19

Yes!!

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 09/06/2022 20:20

Certainly better than Alex Scott Raahh
I'd forgotten about her! Dear God, no!!
Johnny Mac! (joke!)
