I remember the Ruby storyline very vaguely , but I think she was the manipulative one ?
I can't remember the details of it

SoupDragon · 26/05/2022 09:36

I can't remember either. It was to do with blurred consent but I can't remember how.

the80sweregreat · 26/05/2022 09:52

Didn't Ruby once take advantage of a man who was drunk or something?

Ntsure · 26/05/2022 10:26

I think ruby consented to sex with one man but they took advantage of how drunk she was and a different man had raped her whilst she was out of it.

SoupDragon · 26/05/2022 11:45

yes... that rings a bell.

JemimaTab · 26/05/2022 13:01

Ruby had two stories around consent. The first was that a man had raped her when she was drunk but had already had consensual sex with his friend. Then there was a story where one of her former employees had accused her of sexual harassment (I think - can’t remember the details).
The Ben story is more a date rape/changing mind about consent story.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 26/05/2022 19:03

They've written the story well.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion. 😀

Meredusoleil · 26/05/2022 20:11

Such a tense episode tonight imho. Jean is becoming a risk to everyone around her now 😥 Lewis is starting to show his true colours as a nasty piece of work really. Pleased that Callum is standing up for himself and showing Ben the door (literally) 😅

halfpasteleven · 26/05/2022 22:54

Stacey lost a lot of blood tonight?! Hope she's going to be ok without needing treatment

SoupDragon · 27/05/2022 07:36

I'm not sure if she lost a lot or not. A good amount, certainly.

i don't understand the condition at all but I would have thought with her adjusted meds she would be improving? She seems just as manipulative and mean as before.

I hope they "fix" her soon! I want sausage surprise Jean back.

I guess the story is highlighting the problems with mental health care.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2022 07:36

Stacey and Martin need to get back together, they work really well together.

Poor Ben. What the hell was he thinking? He should have just gone straight home ffs. Poor Callum. He's really not done nothing wrong in all of this.

I hope he believes Ben and they get Lewis for this. Not OK to show something so traumatic before 9pm though. Was there a warning before the episode started as I didn't hear anything?

Yes he should have gone straight home. But he didnt and he said no, so Lewis shouldn't have raped him. It's not Ben's fault. It's Lewis's fault.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2022 11:20

It's not Ben's fault. It's Lewis's fault.

Absolutely.

However, the story is set up such that Ben pursued Lewis, Ben contacted him on the app, Ben got drunk, Ben said to go upstairs for sex... it is deliberately pointing the finger at Ben "asking for it". Added into it is the fact that he's cheated on Callum.

Obviously it isn't his fault and Lewis raped him. It will be interesting to see how they get to the end and what people say when/if they find out. That's what made the Ruby storyline so well done.

Im so confused re Callum and Ben's flat. If it's Sharon's old flat, then why does it look so different? There was a step from the door down into the kitchen, where has that gone?! 😖

I'm guessing this is one of the new sets being used now?

LouisCatorze · 27/05/2022 11:45

Poor Ben. Eastenders is going through one of its very depressing phases at the moment.

The step down is still there - I actually noticed it last night!

Thymeout · 27/05/2022 13:45

It's v awkward to watch at the moment with the build-up to Charles and Camilla's visit shoehorned between a story about anal rape. Excruciating timing. What were they thinking?

Oh is it? 😆 I'll keep an eye out next time!
It just feels like a totally different place for some reason 🤔

SoupDragon · 27/05/2022 14:19

It might look different because it's completely empty.

I watched Callum step down into the kitchen yesterday and thought (not for the first time) what a stupid place for a step it was.

The kitchen seems so different but probably isnt. And it's so dark so that's probably all it is.
Yep, a step down into a kitchen - what could possibly go wrong 🙈

Rainie'n'Stu's flat has a step down , so does the Queen Vic sitting room.
Must be an EE thing Grin.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/05/2022 14:52

I caught up with this week - anyone else think the member of staff at the STI clinic had facial expressions very like Janine ? The eyes and mouth ?

mrswhiplington · 28/05/2022 18:32

I lived in a terraced house in Manchester growing up and they all had a step from the living room to the kitchen. I didn't think it was that unusual.
I'm finding it very difficult to feel sorry for Ben at the moment. I know what happened to him was awful and wrong but with all the beatings and then the intention to cheat on Callum all the sad faces he is pulling are really annoying me.

SoupDragon · 28/05/2022 18:43

Yes, Ben's behaviour has made a difficult storyline even more tricky.
