@PinkDaydreams - agreed re another Ben drama storyline.

I'm wondering if they're trying to work out how many gay storylines to throw into the show which almost all seem to revolve around Ben. Now the lesbians (Iqra?) and her girlfriend have left it seems to be back on Ben and Callum to take up the stories. And of course Ben seems to be 'conflicted', daddy doesn't love/trust/understand him and neither does Callum really!

I just love a bit of angst.

Ben just seems to blame Callum for not being openly gay from a young age. It is a bit unfair really , especially as Callum's dad was so homophobic.
I know that Phil was too , but Ben had Kathy fighting his corner for him and he just had a different life. Callum couldn't accept his sexuality for a long time.
I know it can't be easy, but all this doesn't help how Ben treats him, it's not Callum's fault he tried to hide it.
Maybe they need a gay couple to move into the square who are just normal and happy and none of the angst around it all. Fat chance I know.

@the80sweregreat - it does make me laugh a bit that the Albert is the only gay bar in Walford - I can't think of anywhere near me that does have a gay bar locally, not even the bigger towns! Yet Eastenders has one and also Rubys!

In Callum's case though he was heterosexual when he was with Whitney though wasn't he, so technically he's bisexual, but now he's with Ben, he's gay, unless he really was gay the whole time (I do know a few who pretend to be straight).

Agreed that Ben has had Kathy and Heather even having his back re being gay and Callum with his homophobic dad (and Stuart) never had that.

One of those who I thought would annoy me more was Lexi, she seems less annoying now.

he was in love with a male colleague in the army so I think he was gay but in denial. Although this was only brought up when they decided to make him a gay character, there was no hint of it before other than him being inexperienced with women.

Would Callum be that supportive? Ben had every intention of cheating. Although this changes nothing about it being rape, it would still be the end of the relationship I think as Ben had every intention of cheating with Lewis.

on reflection, I think Callum is lovely so would support him for the rape but would still want a divorce.

I didn't watch the actual scene once the mood changed I switched chanel.

But the ‘truth’ for Ben is that it wasn’t rape.

I think Ben's conflicted because he did absolutely plan on having sex with Lewis. I suppose it is true of female rape victims too who think they weren't raped because they wanted sex but changed their mind. Ben has the added complication of the infidelity which perhaps makes him think he deserved it.

It isn't a straightforward rape storyline that's for sure.

actually, didn't Ruby have a similar storyline in that she changed her mind about consent or something along those lines?

Peter Beale doesn't know that it was Ben who beat him the other week , but Lewis does.

Ben only thinks it wasn't rape because Lewis is twisting the truth : Ben said , audibly , No , stop.
He isn't stupid. He knows that Lewis is in the wrong , but Lewis also knows that he beat up Peter Beale ( mistaken identity ) and the other man and that Callum may not believe him if he tells him that he was raped. Lewis has covered for him in the past too.
He is between a rock and a hard place and Lewis is the ultimate manipulator and gaslighting him.
