Just wondering if anyone has watched the entire series 4 and wanted to discuss it or the ending ?! ......

Nope, Darlene didn't adopt Zeke. Both the Byrdes and Darlene were fostering. Otherwise how do you think all the money and land went Darlene - Wyatt - Ruth? Ruth got the money because she was the guardian of Wyatt and Three.

Just finished watching so can finally join this thread c

I can see why Jonah snapped. He was so looking forward to going back to Chicago and getting a new life and this cop comes along at the last minute to ruin all of that.

Veralil · 04/05/2022 21:57

I thought it was so moving and the ending was brilliant. It would have been so easy to kill the Byrdes off but no, beautiful Ruth had to go . She lay in her unfinished pool in her white satin dress with a spot of scarlet on her chest, a Greek tragedy indeed. It is a long time since I have felt sad all the next day after a tv show!

VintageGibbon · 04/05/2022 22:22

I wonder if Ruth was intended to be the heroine all along or whether the actress was so good they just developed her role.

foxlover47 · 04/05/2022 23:04

@Veralil I felt the same , she was just like a beautiful angel dead

Yes she really was the heroine of the show, - and then helping Wendy get her kids back and dealing with her horrible dad - pointing her gun .. at his head. Not that head the other....😲No fear.

hopeishere · 05/05/2022 08:07

I like the ending. I practically cried when Ruth died. She was just a child. Marty loved her (in a paternal way) I can't believe he let her die.

I guess we don't know who was killed at the end though. Maybe he shot his mom?

Laura Linney is a great actress. Ageing gracefully. Loved what she wore as well. Jason Bateman was also great.

jay55 · 05/05/2022 16:57

I hated that Ruth had to die.

I wish they'd pushed Camilla off the boat.

I'm disappointed with the ending. Wish Ruth hadn't died.

I also dont understand why Omar died, since camilla realised he didn't kill her son I'd hoped she was doing some sort of double cross and he was going to wind up at the boat party

I wish the kids hadn't come back when Wendy threw her toys out of the pram in the hospital, not for a few more days anyway

And I guess the car crash scene was pointless

Cherryana · 06/05/2022 21:24

I really liked the ending.
It was so messed up with Jonah pulling the trigger. And for me that was the point - I had been rooting for this family the whole way through - which is totally messed up. They were so so corrupt and yet how Marty was so likeable the whole way through…. I thought it was a brilliant show.

@Cherryana I get that , I felt the same about Marty it was hard to not like him ... until for me , when he left Ruth to be killed

It's taken me a few days to get over it but I think it had to end the way it did. Ruth couldn't have got away with killing Javi and I can't believe she was so laissez faire about it, not even seeming to take the danger she was in seriously, not even carrying a gun. Camilla was a great character, the perfect villain for such a female dominated series. Visually, the confrontation between her and Ruth was stunning. I was hoping that Three was on top of a van with a rifle though.

I don't understand why the FBI were so passive and accommodating about permitting who would head up the Cartel. I would really have liked Wendy to get her comeuppance and love pp's suggestion that maybe Jonah shot her rather than the policeman. I also don't understand why the policeman felt the need to confront the Byrds when he could have just secured the evidence at the cop shop instead.

Cherryana · 07/05/2022 07:20

I think they had to let Marty be the one to ‘allow’ it - otherwise we would still think Wendy was the ‘worse one’.

Cherryana · 07/05/2022 07:22

That was a reply to @foxlover47

Cherryana · 07/05/2022 07:24

Camilla’s voice!! What a beautiful rasp!!

ProfYaffle · 07/05/2022 08:25

That dress!

Southeastdweller · 07/05/2022 08:35

I wasn't bothered about Ruth dying. She was stupid to kill Javi and she shouldn't have killed her two uncles back in season 1. I don't see her as a heroine, I think of her more of a nuisance.

I think Omar was killed simply so Camilla could head up the cartel. The actress who played her was terrific.

I was just thinking if Marty and Bruce hadn't have been so greedy and corrupt back in Chicago, all the subsequent double dealing and murders wouldn't have happened. I guess it's true to life that he never took responsibility for all the mess he indirectly caused and he came out on top.

OperationMincemeat · 07/05/2022 11:46

Found it very odd that Ruth, who was a smart cookie, killed Javi without having backup plan for when the cartel came after her. At the very least, when Darlene's money came to her, she should have got security and a gun, instead of an unwieldy rifle stowed away in her cabin. I would have moved into the Snell compound for a while and used Snell security. I guess she felt she could not outrun her destiny.

foxlover47 · 07/05/2022 11:54

@Cherryana yea I hadn't thought of it like that and also it hurt more being a betrayal from
Marty didn't it , more powerful

I think she let her emotions overtake rationality. Her and Wyatt were so close and she just wanted short-term revenge.

cushioncovers · 07/05/2022 13:01

It all got a bit silly in this last series. The FBI agreeing to everything Wendy suggested and Omar going along with all the Byrds ideas was completely unrealistic as was Wendy and Marty being able to keep track of all the businesses they had going on. However I still really enjoyed it.

Anyone else feel annoyed that they never saw anyone doing any housework but yet Wendy always seem to have time to cook a homemade meal from scratch.

Inkanta · 07/05/2022 13:50

One feature I wanted to mention was the crackling drum beat that occurred when something dark or evil was about to get underway ...😨
