Is anyone else really excited about the new series tomorrow? I'm not sure if it's going to be a weekly episode or available to binge, but the trailer looks brilliant.

I can't wait to see what happens next although I'm dreading it too, as it inevitably will be the end of Kim in one way or another.

Just watched this week's episode - what a treat!!! A whole episode of Gene.

My heart stopped when he mentioned the chemistry teacher - I don't know why, it just feels like it's two different worlds colliding even thought it's not at all 😂

Also, Carol Burnett! WE LOVE YOU MISS HANNIGAN! That was a great cameo.

I KNEW I recognised her!

PocahontasMcGinty · 01/08/2022 12:31

We're rewatching BB just now with teen. She's loving it.

We've just got to the episode where it's Walt's first day in the superlab. I had a wave of sadness knowing now who is in the floor.

Definitely rematch it!

We watched the Breaking Bad episode titled 'Better Call Saul' tonight,
in preparation for the Better Call Saul episode titled 'Breaking Bad' on Tuesday.
Can't wait 😎

We stole your idea and did the same last night!

bluestripeymug · 01/08/2022 19:55

I'm trying in vain to guess what might be coming next. I have re-watched episode 10, paying more attention to detail. Here's what I noticed:
There are 2 table mats laid on the dining table;
Also, when Gene is rummaging in the box for his friend's ring, he briefly holds a (possibly) passport in his hand, separate to the other papers so I think we are meant to see it.
And .... I have no idea if Marion suspects something's fishy when she asks Gene about Nippy - I just can't read it either way.

I did too. And then I just kept going so am back in BB world now.

bluestripeymug · 01/08/2022 23:23

Argg, I don't have time to watch the BB episode before tomorrow, wish I could.

There are some loose ends, some more important than others, that may be revealed to us…or not:

Kim, of course!
Gus: will he take action against Kim and Jimmy for what they know?
Mike – we all want to see him before BCS ends!
How did Saul acquire the vet’s black book?
How did Saul acquire the Kettleman’s inflatable Statue of Liberty and what happened to them?
The blood or drips of paint on the front of the taxi – how did they get there?
Is Gene going to spend his diamonds?
There must be more that I can’t think of…

nohopenoharm · 02/08/2022 11:35

I've been away so only just caught up on the last few episodes.

My thoughts on Gus suddenly up and leaving the wine bar...

He went there to relax and have a nice civilised, cultured evening, enjoying wine chat with the sommelier - something that in the past he has enjoyed. Did anyone else notice how boring the sommelier/wine waiter actually was though??? He was droning on about the wines and actually the stories were really drawn out and dull. Even his voice and mannerisms were really bland. At first I couldn't understand why they cast such an uncharismatic role. Then I thought maybe that's exactly the point! Listening to the sommelier drone on Gus realises that he is no longer amused or entertained, perhaps he now even finds himself irritated by the inane chatter.
Where he might once have been mildly intrigued or amused by the story of the blood/iron in the wine, it now turns his stomach. Blood shed and destruction are now so close to home to him, he has just had several very close shaves with death himself and has killed Lalo. He realises his life now is totally different from his past life where a bit of light flirtation over an expensive bottle of wine would have been the peak of excitement. It's not his world anymore.

Can't wait for the Breaking Bad episode. I really do need to watch it all again and all the earlier episodes of BCS though as I feel I've forgotten so much.

I would definitely advise anybody who hasn't done so to watch the Better Call Saul episode of Breaking Bad before they watch the Breaking Bad episode of Better Call Saul. I think it's series 2 episode 8 😀

I am going to do exactly this tonight, thank you.

The thought will keep me going through a shitty day at work.

Sounds like a plan

ManAboutTown · 02/08/2022 14:59

I watched this week's episode earlier. Not going to do any spoiling but for those who want to watch the BCS episode of BB beforehand I would also suggest the BB episode where Walter and Saul have to disappear. It will be helpful remembering how it ended.

Emotionalsupportviper · 02/08/2022 15:19

I've also watched this week's episode and won't spoil it for anyone, except to say it did not disappoint! Excellent, as always.

I'm now going (too late, I know) watch the Better Call Saul episode of Breaking Bad.

@ManAboutTown do you know what the title od the Walter and Saul get-out-of-town episode is called. I'll watch that, too.

It's too hot to go out so I'll sit indoors drinking tea and hugging spaniels.

ManAboutTown · 02/08/2022 17:57

@Emotionalsupportviper Its BB Series 5 Episode 15 Granite State

hockeygrass · 02/08/2022 21:01

I just watched this week's episode, excellent indeed!

MargotMoon · 02/08/2022 22:48

Wow, that was brilliant.

Too much grave symbolism though 💀😟

Agree - the scene where they drive away from the desert and it cuts to Gene in bed...

I've gone through the series with hopes for a happy ending for Jimmy and Kim but that's not how BCS/BB works of course. The Gene storyline is far darker than I expected.

MargotMoon · 03/08/2022 07:42

Yes that shot was incredible. There was also a bit later where Saul was sitting at his desk and he shuddered like someone has just walked over his grave. It's not looking good for Gene...

I do feel sorry for the poor pay phones in these series. They get a lot of abuse.

Great to see our old friends again but there was something lacking that I can't quite put my finger on. Jessie in particular had very flat dialogue. Obviously they have aged but they both seemed a bit empty. Maybe I was just too over excited!

Marion could be the one to scupper things for Gene.

Whataboutno · 03/08/2022 09:37

I think it was lacking as they can never recreate that original series with Walt and Jesse, plus Jesse sounds and looks a lot older now. Clever how they did it in the dark though.

MargotMoon · 03/08/2022 12:14

I thought Walt was pretty great but yea, Jesse's visibly aged much more - I guess the decade or so gap between the two shoots is more pronounced for a young man than an older man. His voice sounded weird though - bit like Chandler on Friends went after he got addicted to prescription drugs

ManAboutTown · 03/08/2022 12:23

@MargotMoon - I think they are using this scene and the one with Mike and Saul in his office to let us know that is the end of the Saul story in BCS as it has now reached the point where BB kicks in. I think that works as any further would be repeating and potentially contradicting BB.

I expect to the remaining episodes to focus on wrapping up Gene's story which for me has two significant open items - what happens to Kim and do the Feds catch up with Saul (maybe through Marion). The whole Mike / Gustavo Fring piece of BCS is resolved in BB

Thank you for this i did the same.

Twilightimmortal · 03/08/2022 13:19

Seeing Walt in BCS and at the end of theJesse movie is like Time travellers wife movie, when the husband comes at the end.
Its great seeing them but its fake.

MargotMoon · 03/08/2022 13:32

@ManAboutTown Yes, there was some good stuff about that on the BCS sub-Reddit - about how Mike in that scene told Saul not to get in with Walt and he ignored it which led to his downfall, and paralleled that with the guy telling Gene not to go after the mark who has cancer and he ignores that, potentially leading to his downfall...?

I fell down another Reddit rabbit hole after watching last night's episodes 😂
