Finally done woohoo!

Ooh I quite liked it. I actually wanted to Anthony in the end, ahem. Blush

I actually felt really sorry for Pen and omg Colin how could you!

And Eloise going through all her stuff! Shock

Just as tacky and cringey as the first series. But that’s kind of why I watch it, I watch it ironically.

Sortilege · 31/03/2022 03:27

There’s going to be a spin off series about The Queen.

coldlistened · 31/03/2022 04:46

Admittedly, I do actually like the show.

It’s a load of old shit, but it doesn’t try to be anything other than a load of old shit. That’s its charm.

Trixiefirecracker · 31/03/2022 08:13

I’m really surprised that many people didn’t think there was much chemistry between Anthony and Kate, I thought it was much more charged than the first series.

I thought they sizzled. Possibly an unpopular opinion, but Rege-Jean Page in S1 was a bit of a charisma vacuum for me. I got the the impression that he was always thinking 'this is a load of old bollocks, but I'm doing it because I might get put up for Bond'. Whereas the actors who play Anthony and Kate have thrown themselves into it and it shows.

I think it’s because it was slower and everyone was expecting sex immediately. I agree it was much more charged when it came!

@Weepingwillows12

I think I liked this series more than the first. Was actually glad there was less sex and more story. Hope the prince comes back in series 3 though.
I think he will and Edwina will will him over as a side plot

Yes Oliver and Amanda are the twins, we met Oliver this season and Amanda was sleeping

I'm starting to like the queen, she comes across as a but of a dragon but seems to have a soft spot for a love match

StColumbofNavron · 31/03/2022 09:33

I thought the chemistry was off the charts to be honest.

Rege, is incredibly handsome and good looking, I would 100% notice him in a bar or whatever, but I agree he lacked something so I didn't find him attractive, but aesthetically pleasing. Anthony on the other hand has something about him - the way he looked at Kate, Simon never looked at Daphne.

Also, I may have mentioned this - but I have a ridiculous penchant for a man who fights a duel so Anthony won me over early. I did miss his sideburns this series though.

Also, I've noticed there has been little talk (anywhere) of his Darcy-esque moment emerging from the lake in the park.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 31/03/2022 09:37

I liked the chemistry too, I think they played it really well . And the actress who plays Kate is beautiful. And seems very tall! Except in a shot towards the end of them on the dance floor when she suddenly looks shorter than him

diddl · 31/03/2022 10:48

What is the point of the "diamond"?

Is there one?

The Queen doesn't really know them does she so surely can't seriously be recommending them as good "marriage material"?

TottersBlankly · 31/03/2022 11:40

It preserves the hierarchy whose pinnacle is the Crown.

The Diamond is likely to marry the man with the highest social standing - and thus bear children who will themselves be at the top of the tree. So it’s in every family’s interest to groom their girls to be pleasing to the Crown. Not republicans!

The Diamond’s friends will scramble to maintain proximity to her - by being as like her as possible. Not republicans!

The Diamond’s husband will be inordinately grateful to the Crown for validating his bride. Because that ensures his continued social pre-eminence and proximity to the Crown. He will, crucially, ensure that his children are brought up to understand how to maintain their position. Not republicans!

Etc …

Nopetryagain · 31/03/2022 12:09

I enjoyed this series so much more than the first. The chemistry and slow burn was so much more enjoyable than the cringey sex scenes of the first.

Plus the Darcy moment was a treat!

PrinzessinCressida · 31/03/2022 15:05

@StColumbofNavron, I did wonder why the lack of sideburns. Jonathan Bailey seemed very proud of them last season. And you're right we've not talked enough about the Darcy moment. I had forgotten about it but shall treat myself to a rewatch later.

The thought of six more siblings / books / seasons to come, plus the Queen's prequel - it's all a joy, isn't it? This could keep us happily occupied for years.

StColumbofNavron · 31/03/2022 15:34

I might, ahem, prefer it to the Darcy moment, maybe. A bit.

InaccurateDream · 31/03/2022 17:41

"You are the bane of my existence

And the object of all my desires..."

Oh my, that will linger in my mind for quite some time!

I loved this season. Much prefer lingering looks to constantly getting it on (though that wasn't terrible either!).

Ooo, I don't know.

But then, maybe it's because the original Darcy moment holds nostalgic memories for me.
I thnk its the first time I understood the word "swoon"Grin

But then again the new darcy moment has a wet shirt and you can see the abs and everything.

Oh, i don't know, this is too difficult.

Loved that speech [sigh]

What % of people would have lived the 'ton' lifestyle do you think?

It looks so luxurious (although I still can't get over the fact that people who lived a life such that they were waited on day and night and had huge magnificent houses still had to use a chamber pot as there bathroom facilities) but what percentage of pple would be lucky enough to be born a Penelope or an Eloise or a Gregory etc?

Say 1%???

It’s got to be less than that surely! Think just outside the royal circle today.

On the whole I didn't really like this one.

I'm not a fan of the Anthony actor not the character, didn't really like the Kate actor or character.

Felt really sorry for Edwina & didn't like the storyline.

SometimesSunshineSometimesrain · 31/03/2022 21:05

I absolutely loved this season!! Started off slow but their chemistry was amazing!!!

Faffandahalf · 31/03/2022 21:47

I think Johnny Bailey (Anthony) is a fantastic actor. He’s definitely one of the best they’ve got on the show actually. You can tell he’s a theatre actor for sure. There’s something about his face that’s very nuanced. He can emote so effectively in a myriad of subtle ways. I though he was a joy to watch really.

Seeing the trauma of his father deaths and the weight of that on him esp in the scenes in ep 8 with his mother. It had more heft to it really than the Duke’s story.

MerryMarigold · 31/03/2022 21:48

@Ohyesiam I watched it with my 13yo DD on the laptop. It's easy to pause and then skip scenes as you can see what's happening so she just shuts her eyes till I get to a 'better' place. This series has been much better than the first. The Duke and Daphne's honeymoon left very little to watch! DD loves it and we've watched every period drama on Netflix between series!

Notonthestairs · 31/03/2022 23:20

I agree faff. I thought the actress that plays Violet was wonderful in the little exchange when she tells Anthony that Kate is awake, how much she regrets leaving him to take charge after his fathers death and how she'd always choose to have loved despite the subsequent loss.
