Finally done woohoo!

Ooh I quite liked it. I actually wanted to Anthony in the end, ahem. Blush

I actually felt really sorry for Pen and omg Colin how could you!

And Eloise going through all her stuff! Shock

@Selma22

For me I'm waiting on Penelope an Colin. He is meant to go away, come back and find her all changed (makeover ?)
In the book she loses a lot of weight and totally changed appearance but I think that in the series they will probably just allow Nicola to wear something that isn't yellow and is more flattering to her body shape and generally bring her style up to date so that Pen appears more grown up and mature.
Mama1980 · 30/03/2022 11:53

I really enjoyed season 2 much better than season one. Less cringeworthy sex was definitely an improvement and the pall mall scenes were hilarious.
I hated the books though I have read the fort 4 . They are too fluffy and sex filled. I kept going hoping they would improve - they didn't so I'm just going to enjoy the escapism of the show.

ermagerdabear · 30/03/2022 12:50

I liked Marina. She was far more interesting than any of the insipid Bridgerton women. I really hope they don't kill her off so the awful Eloise can marry her husband.

Eloise should marry the paperboy so they can live in penury while she writes feminist pamphlets. Then Eloise can get consumption of typhoid or some other old timey disease and hopefully die before the end of S3.

PrinzessinCressida · 30/03/2022 13:48

Chris van Dusen and Shonda Rhimes both seem very clear on the "one book, one sibling, one season" thing, right?

I would really love to know who's next! I'll be excited no matter what, but I feel Benedict is readier than Pen, Colin and Eloise. He seemed to be about to cross the line into "sad, aimless bachelor" territory towards the end of S2 with his failed Royal Academy career, casual hookups with models, etc.

Plus, again, Luke Thompson. Can't quite put my finger on why I find him so appealing, but his smile is sex on legs.

PrinzessinCressida · 30/03/2022 13:49

Oh, and also, to those of you who've read the books: what happens to Penelope when she eventually marries Colin? Does it come out that she's Lady W. and does she have to stop?. I wouldn't like that.

Sunshinegirl82 · 30/03/2022 14:33

Yes, Colin discovers that Penelope is LW and is not best pleased. He is worried she'll be ruined if discovered although he still wants to marry her.

Do you want to know how they resolve it in the book? I don't want to give away too many spoilers if it will annoy people!

amymorris01 · 30/03/2022 14:39

Yes please.

PrinzessinCressida · 30/03/2022 14:46

I would, @Sunshinegirl82! But happy to respect if others wouldn't.

Sunshinegirl82 · 30/03/2022 18:15

In the book Penelope retires as LW as (in the books) she's been doing it for 10 years and has had enough.

Lady Danbury sets a challenge for LW to be revealed and offers £1,000 as a prize. Cressida Thwombley (Cowper as was) has fallen on hard times as her husband was broke and says that she is LW to get the money.

Penelope is so incensed that Cressida is trying to steal her work (especially as she's always been so horrible to her) that she writes again so Cressida can't take the glory.

After P & C get married, C eventually announces that C is LW at a ball to take away the risk of discovery. Lady Danbury and all the Bridgertons support her and then C and P go off to be newlyweds! She writes a novel and C publishes his travel journals and they live happily ever after!

liquidrevolution · 30/03/2022 18:35

Interesting to note that Phillipa Featherington marries Nigel Berbrooke in the books. I think I prefer cheese lover Mr Finch.

Nigel Berbrooke is a nicer character in the book (book 1). Nice but dim. very dim. I have come across a family tree for the bridgertons if people dont mind me posting it?

PrinzessinCressida · 30/03/2022 18:35

That sounds really good fun! But would it work as a season 3 or 4, to be followed by 4 more seasons? Or would it feel like a bit of an anticlimax?

liquidrevolution · 30/03/2022 18:43

actually have found this which is a timeline of the books showing how they overlap.

[quote StColumbofNavron]I’m in for spoilers.
Finished today and have read the first two books.

Preferred s2 and book 2. I loved Anthony since the duel. I have a penchant for a duelling gentleman.

I thought the chemistry was off the charts and whilst I love a good sex scene I thought it was OTT in S1.

really interesting read - thanks for posting - I'd already noticed Bollywood similarities but reading about the rest of of it was interesting.

Notonthestairs · 30/03/2022 19:19

Liquid - blimey, Violet will end up with a lot of grandchildren! Shock

BiscuitLover3678 · 30/03/2022 19:24

Wait. Do I see a baby out of wedlock there???

OP posts:
StColumbofNavron · 30/03/2022 19:29

So many children!

Are the out of wedlock ones the twins, Eloise’s step children?

Love that article @StColumbofNavron, you are a real polymath Mumsnetter, great sources across a wide variety of topics! I am still on episode 3, but already noticed how they’ve integrated desi culture in such an authentic and intimate way - the way Kate heats up oil and massages her younger sister’s scalp. It’s a very loving act between women in the family. It was just a couple of seconds, but communicated the intense care and devotion Kate has for her sister instantly - kind of like the visual version of smelling home cooked food.

Ahh so they’re not hers biologically but they will be when she marries. Got it! I thought Eloise might get invoked in a bit of a scandal Blush

StColumbofNavron · 30/03/2022 20:21

Awww thanks @BakeOffRewatch. You just have the fortune or misfortune to be present on threads on two topics I love - Russian literature/history and Bollywood (and historical romance it seems).

I found that less is more with the sex scenes which Bollywood does very well, intense chemistry and I also grew up with a cinema where love blossoms through longing looks with famous singers taking leading roles so often over a song a bit like Bollywood.

liquidrevolution · 30/03/2022 20:43

Ha ha sorry for the excitement. Yes oliver and amanda are sir Phillip and marinas twins.

One unnecessary change was having the eldest child of simon and daphne a boy and not a girl as in the books. Just weird.

Bells3032 · 30/03/2022 21:12

Do i see Francesca married twice. once in 1817 when she's meant to be like 14?????

BiscuitLover3678 · 30/03/2022 21:27

I read that. But I also saw that having a boy later on is a big deal for Simon so maybe having a boy immediately got that out the way so his story is finished?

Please could someone tell me what Francesca is like? She just doesn’t exist in the show! And Hyacinth as someone said she’s a favourite?

Weepingwillows12 · 30/03/2022 21:36

I think I liked this series more than the first. Was actually glad there was less sex and more story. Hope the prince comes back in series 3 though.

PrinzessinCressida · 30/03/2022 22:00

That offspring list is making my head spin a bit! Gregory is going to be very prolific, isn't be?

PrinzessinCressida · 30/03/2022 23:28

Francesca marries twice. I read a description of her book and it sounds like her love story focuses on her second husband, not her first.
