Will anyone be watching this? Living with the Amish?

OytheBumbler · 22/03/2022 22:08

I'm watching and enjoying it.

IamSamantha · 22/03/2022 22:23

I'd love to do this. Penny, why apply to do it? She'd ruin it for me

Swedenandnorway · 22/03/2022 22:30

Penny - jeez she's just a nightmare. Her poor kids, spoilt to death.

Where is it filmed? So beautiful

purpleme12 · 22/03/2022 22:54

I want to watch it but it's not on 4od!!

Rummikub · 22/03/2022 23:04

It’s on plus one now
15 mins left

That penny! Bloody hell she’s annoying

Kai’s dads and their story :(

JaneJeffer · 22/03/2022 23:14

Watching on +1.

£17 for a chicken?!

It's set in Shebbear, North Devon.

Rummikub · 22/03/2022 23:18

Free range chicken

Surely mince would have been a ootion

Gonnagetgoing · 22/03/2022 23:24

Did anyone see that Toby (who seemed a bit strange) got upset over Penny having a strop and walked off six miles to a train station and went home?! Shock

@purpleme12 - somewhere in Devon.

I see the one who is in charge of the budget and money forget his name comes top in wanting his own way (forget their charts).

Penny won’t last much longer and her strops will grate on people.

Was wondering how soon and if her eldest daughter would take an interest in one of the Amish boy teenagers?!

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 22/03/2022 23:28

Her littlest daughter seems to have settled in well though.

Swedenandnorway · 22/03/2022 23:28

I think Toby had the measure of Penny and thought I'm out of here

Gonnagetgoing · 22/03/2022 23:30

@Swedenandnorway

@Swedenandnorway - but to be fair to Penny I think Toby was very much his own person, liked being by himself, fishing etc and in that environment you have to pull together and work together so he wouldn’t have lasted.

i missed part of that and just saw the bit about he walked home

thanks for the explanation

notanicepersonapparently · 23/03/2022 07:26

I thought (or rather hoped for her sake) that Penny was hamming it up for the cameras. Nobody could be that un-self aware surely.
I'm also interested in how COVID has affected the interpersonal relationships. The younger people seem to be enjoying themselves and I wonder if it's because they have been missing the opportunity to socialise with new people.
I really enjoyed this show.

Swedenandnorway · 23/03/2022 09:33

Actually yes you are right there

I think she probably is really like that, they always have to have a character like her on these programmes

@Swedenandnorway - definitely you need a character like Penny on these programmes!

It was nice though that when Penny went to dinner at the Amish family house that they all enjoyed themselves, and the food, and that Penny was slowly seeing the bigger picture. I do think it was telling what the Amish family were advising her about fitting in and really (I don't agree with the Amish for other reasons so...) if you look at the Amish family - they did look very happy and at peace.

OP posts:
Febrier · 23/03/2022 12:13

I think that the use of Amish is problematic. There are other, more culturally similar choices the programme could have used. A lot of what I saw reminded me of my upbringing in a North Yorkshire hamlet.

I notice Fran is doing that that teeth-licking thing which MN has taught me is a result of lip fillers.

whatsthestory123 · 23/03/2022 19:12

itson tonight people i didnt realise andwasjust scrolling through radio times

will watch later as council swap is on

OytheBumbler · 23/03/2022 21:22

Penny wants a washing machineGrin
Can't believe they're getting upset about alcohol, they must've known what they were getting into. Confused

Gonnagetgoing · 23/03/2022 21:22

Watching again tonight. I can see why some older people are irritated at not getting alcohol though it’s not a necessity and whiner Penny wanted a washing machine!

@OytheBumbler - but they’re not Amish people just living with them.
