Will anyone be watching this? Living with the Amish?

@Leftbutcameback - Jacob’s sister Poppy left.

I’ve been talking a bit about this with family and friends. I couldn’t live with the Amish or another religious organisation for that reason alone, I don’t like the religious aspect.

I’ve known people who live in communes and DB was telling me he knows a couple of people living in communes but says they have drug/alcohol issues.

My close friend in Delaware lives in the next county to Pennsylvania Dutch County where there are Amish communities and she’s freaked out by them to be honest! I’ve only ever seen a similar community in Robertsbridge, Sussex and I went to secondary school for 2 years with 2 Plymouth Brethren girls. Then they either moved or were homeschooled or went to a different school etc.

Apart from many other things I wouldn't want the restriction of having to wear the same clothes.
I like being able to express myself in clothes and hairstyle and accessories
No way would i ever want to conform in that respect

Anyone watching tonight? Victoria - argh is all I can say, poor Fran

Gonnagetgoing · 05/04/2022 21:33

Who’s watching tonight?

Really felt for Fran when Victoria and Joseph were cosying up to the Millers and when Victoria told them about the cushion, ruining Fran’s surprise. Not surprising that Victoria doesn’t have many friends in real life and the Millers daughter picked up on that!

I know there is editing involved to show things in a certain light, but Victoria is coming across as really quite mean. Ruining the cushion surprise and explaining how she didn't want to do it because she wanted to spend more time with the Millers. I expect they saw right through her. She was acting like a kid with a severe case of sibling rivalry.

This! I wonder though if she is just really immature. You could not pay me enough to be in Fran's position.
Gonnagetgoing · 06/04/2022 11:37

Victoria redeemed herself towards the end and when Joseph encouraged her to mix more.

I do think she has a lot of issues from her childhood which are carried into her adulthood and needs to work on.

Was nice to see her helping with harvesting and going in the sea.

I think if you want to (like she did) it’s easy to spend time in a kitchen and not socialise or help out but it’s similar to her life and work out of the community.

Fran was very patient and understanding of Victoria which is nice.

Victoria is infuriating. I thought it was really mean to tell the millers about the pillow, I thought it was a lovely gesture by fran.

I think she has had a hard upbringing and wants to create a very very traditional family with Joseph maybe to replace what she didn't have. I don't see why she gets to just opt out of helping. She isn't the only woman with house keeping duties on the farm.

True! I am glad the women all came together at the end.
GlitteryGreen · 06/04/2022 14:42

I thought the same about Victoria, when she was telling Joseph she was lonely while he was out working but she wasn't helping with anything anyone else was doing? She could have company all day if she wanted.

Glad things looked up for her towards the end though as she seems like a nice girl. Just think she's felt a bit shielded from having to join in 100% because she has Joseph with her.

Last one!

Got a bit upset with Peanut being sent to the abattoir - I’m semi vegetarian.

There isn't any other reason to keep pigs though is there? I thought that when they got the pigs (last week?) that it was an interesting decision because pigs don't provide milk or eggs or pull farm equipment; you only keep them if you intend to eat them.

I have been vegetarian for close to 40 years and pigs are my favourite animals so I actually cried when Peanut went away. I do get that otherwise there was no reason to have pigs.

Even before being vegetarian I could never have eaten any of Peanut though.

I loved the twins and so glad that Kevin had a girlfriend. Bet some of them really struggle going back to their old lives

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 07/04/2022 19:23

I was pleased for Kevin. He is so lovely! :)

mydogisthebest · 08/04/2022 09:08

I was a bit surprised they only revisited them the once and that was only a month after their return home.

I would like to see a couple of updates, maybe 3 months later and 6 months later.

Yes Kevin was lovely and so were the twins

GlitteryGreen · 08/04/2022 17:09

I feel like they didn't give it many episodes for such a long experiment? Loads of people left without us even seeing them go.

I also would have liked a bit more analysis from the expert throughout to comment how different individuals were/weren't adapting.

On a separate note, I didn't realise the brothers were twins until I saw them side-by-side watching the last episode this morning! 😂

Yes I agree. I often feel with programmes like this that they are far too short.

There was a lot more we could have be shown and, again as you say, we didn't see some of the people go.

I am not sure how the filming worked as in was there someone there all the time filming or just some of the time but there must have been masses of film not used I would think.

I didn't realise they were twins either. I was actually amazed at the end and did a double take when I realised

purpleme12 · 08/04/2022 23:56

I've watched episode 5. Episode 6 isn't on 4od!!

EnjoyingTheSilence · 09/04/2022 08:58

Omg just watching ep5. Victoria. What an absolute bitch! To be fair, only just got to the Millers leaving so may well change my mind but no one else to share my outrage with!!!!!

Yeah she is awful. Very jealous of Fran.

Her boyfriend could not be less interested in her, it was quite embarrassing to watch really

FarDownTheRiver · 09/04/2022 17:37

Ending was nice but would have liked to see how everyone got on much further on like 6 months later. Really liked the twins and Kevin and hope Fran is able to be happier. She really is such a capable person! Like I would want to recruit her instantly!

Feels like Victoria's boyfriend is suepr distant even when he says the right things but I hope they do buy their house and get married.
