Are there any actors that you will watch things just because they are in them?

I've realised that Toni Collette is one of those actors for me, I'll give something a go even if it's not my usual thing because she's a good actor and also seems to have sound judgement of what's a good script/idea. I've just started watching Pieces of Her and it seems pretty good so far (one episode in).

Also Joshua Jackson, although I haven't watched The Affair yet. And Susan Sarandon, although she's around much less these days.

People who put me off a bit are Melissa McCarthy, she's a really good actress but she's agreed to star in some terrible stuff so I always make sure it's going to be worth watching before I give it a go. I find Laura Linney, Juliette Lewis and Jason Bateman vaguely annoying in almost everything so generally discount anything they are in.

Philip Glenister
Brian Cox

And to be honest this is only partly because I think they are great actors and I enjoy their performance - what tips it over into watching them in anything is I find them aesthetically compelling, even if I'm not so keen on the production overall.

There are lots of others that I might be willing to watch in a lot of things or give a chance to something they were in, but I probably wouldn't persevere if it didn't catch my interest. I watched a few more episodes of Discovery because I enjoy Jason Isaacs, but I wasn't going to keep sitting through such unmitigated crap.

I could never do the late Robin Williams. Made me feel I’ll.

I quite like watching Nicole Kidman and Gywneth Paltrow.

I agree about Toni Colette, seen her recently in The Way Way Back and Dream
Horse and also Unbelievable. Shes not the most film starry type but she is in good stuff.

I can't believe Meryl Streep only got two mentions, and Matthew Rhys none (that i saw), i love both of them, also Mark Ruffalo, as well as lots of previously mentioned ones.

Another vote for Matthew Rhys and the late, great Alan Rickman.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Jonathan Pryce though - absolutely excellent on both stage and screen.

And again Christine Baranski and Allison Janney just can't be beaten.
