Are there any actors that you will watch things just because they are in them?

I've realised that Toni Collette is one of those actors for me, I'll give something a go even if it's not my usual thing because she's a good actor and also seems to have sound judgement of what's a good script/idea. I've just started watching Pieces of Her and it seems pretty good so far (one episode in).

Also Joshua Jackson, although I haven't watched The Affair yet. And Susan Sarandon, although she's around much less these days.

People who put me off a bit are Melissa McCarthy, she's a really good actress but she's agreed to star in some terrible stuff so I always make sure it's going to be worth watching before I give it a go. I find Laura Linney, Juliette Lewis and Jason Bateman vaguely annoying in almost everything so generally discount anything they are in.

Curious what @WheresThatCatGoneNow and @shinyblackdog thought of "Dolly Parton's Christmas On The Square” which had Christine Baranski in?

thedarkling · 11/03/2022 19:29

Oh and Jennifer Ehle, I've watched everything I could find since P&P, I think she's mesmerising. I've just started rewatching the camomile lawn.

Oh yes, definitely Toni Collette! She can turn on a sixpence. Comedy one second, and tragedy the next.

She and Rachel Griffiths were stunning together in Muriel's Wedding.

My favourite film ever ❤

Me neither - is it not good? I'd probably like it anyway, loved Reese Witherspoon in Vanity Fair, which was widely panned.

Joel Kinnaman and Alison Steadman.

They're not often together, though!!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 11/03/2022 19:38

And, of course, Julie Walters.

She could just be sitting down, reciting listings from the telephone directory, and I would watch it.

Maggie Smith and Matthew Goode but for very different reasons.
