Are there any actors that you will watch things just because they are in them?

I've realised that Toni Collette is one of those actors for me, I'll give something a go even if it's not my usual thing because she's a good actor and also seems to have sound judgement of what's a good script/idea. I've just started watching Pieces of Her and it seems pretty good so far (one episode in).

Also Joshua Jackson, although I haven't watched The Affair yet. And Susan Sarandon, although she's around much less these days.

People who put me off a bit are Melissa McCarthy, she's a really good actress but she's agreed to star in some terrible stuff so I always make sure it's going to be worth watching before I give it a go. I find Laura Linney, Juliette Lewis and Jason Bateman vaguely annoying in almost everything so generally discount anything they are in.

Just finally, I think Samuel West is lovely.

He comes from very theatrical parentage! Timothy West and the wonderful Prunella Scales.

Which has reminded me that Prunella Scales is a brilliant actress.

Sybil in 'Fawlty Towers' was a very memorable character, and so funny.

And her portrayal of Miss Mapp in 'Mapp and Lucia' was just perfection in my opinion 😍

Michael Fassbender
Robert Downey Jr
Liam Neeson
Julie Walters

I also agree with Jason Statham. He's my go-to if I need something I can just watch without having to think. His films are very much 'do what they say on the tin' and he does fit action very well.

Tom Hardy, Ben Wishaw, Harriet Walter, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Morgan Freeman and back in the day Alan Rickman and Honor Blackman.
On the radio, Simon Russell-Beale, Joanna Lumley, Roger Allam.

Voices like honey, all of them.

I'm not sure I could say anyone because there are certain things I simply Will Not Watch - for example I'm sure lovely David was excellent in Des but I avoided it.

With that proviso, Lovely David Grin

Adrian Scarborough is always good.

Chewitel Ejiofor's voice is amazing. Having said that, I listened to his audiobook of Piranesi and it was really dull.

What??!

If that’s the Radio 4 reading - he was absolutely magical. So deadpan and devastating.

Toni Collette. I have watched about 3 episodes so far of Pieces of Her. Also Sharon Stone and Anthony Hopkins. Those are the only ones that come to mind at the moment.

augustusglupe · 11/03/2022 22:26

Stephen Graham
Christopher Eccleston
Jack Nicholson

Another that avoids anything with Suranne Jones in. I'm getting fed up of Vicky McClure too and I'm not really sure why, I used to love watching her.

For Gillian Anderson fans: looking forward to First Lady upcoming series, with her as Eleanor Roosevelt; also Viola Davis, always watchable....

Even the men playing the corresponding POTUSes look interesting Smile
