She’s so brave making this documentary.

Indeed … so hard for all of them

Rollercoaster1920 · 22/02/2022 22:04

Yes. really tough. I wonder how it will all end and whether she'll regret the documentary? It is very personal.

I didn't realise their children were so young, and it has really made me think about how my children would be affected if DP or I had life changing illness or injury.

A very thought provoking documentary.

GorgonzolaSouffle · 22/02/2022 22:08

Very personal and almost felt like we were being nosey in watching her life……

I’m not sure I could have done.

I have such admiration for her making these documentaries, and it really makes you realise if that’s how hard it is for someone with a reasonable amount of money and a good sized house (and a bit of fame can’t hurt), how hard it would be for others. Just the washing was sobering!

He did seem a bit brighter when he got home from trip, given that travel must be exhausting for him. I hope it has had some benefit.

MRSAHILL · 22/02/2022 22:10

Such a lovely family, absolutely heartbreaking for them. Poor Kate looks exhausted, she is so brave, I really hope somebody is looking after her as well.

sofakingcool · 22/02/2022 22:11

How lovely was that carer?

GorgonzolaSouffle · 22/02/2022 22:13

@MRSAHILL
I really don’t think anyone is……

She looks exhausted obviously.
I would love to go in and help her with some housework and decluttering. It all looked like it was getting on top of her (as you would expect)

Does anybody know what his treatment on Mexico actually involved?

Whitney168 · 22/02/2022 22:14

God yes, wouldn’t you want to take her a cake, make her a cuppa, and take some washing away and return it all done?

adriftabroad · 22/02/2022 22:15

It was humbling.

I imagine she is in part doing it for money. It must be costing a fortune.

She was brilliant, I thought. She is mentally and physically exhausted, you could see.

GorgonzolaSouffle · 22/02/2022 22:15

@PinchOfVom I read somewhere she didn’t want to go into the details of the treatment as she didn’t want people to disrespect her decision.

I thought it was a very brave thing to do and I can imagine all the millions of carers in the UK will appreciate the spot light being shone on what families go through.

I love their home, it's so full of life and love. This must be taking a huge toll on Kate, I can imagine how dark things have felt at times.

adriftabroad · 22/02/2022 22:17

She is not allowed to talk about details re treatment.

adriftabroad · 22/02/2022 22:18

She has really gone up in my estimation.

LuluBlakey1 · 22/02/2022 22:21

I get a bit sick of her continual drip drip stuff on Derek and have felt she impinges on his right to dignity and privacy at times. However, I watched this tonight and found it very touching and he has made a great deal if progress since that first documentary. Their children are such strong, resilient characters and the love between them and Derek was very plain to see. It must be very hard for both Kate and Derek - life is going to be so different. I found myself admiring her tonight.

Classica · 22/02/2022 22:21

She gets criticised for making these docs but cutting edge treatment must cost an absolute fortune. You'd do whatever you had to, wouldn't you? They seem like a lovely close family and I really hope Derek achieves some kind of recovery, enough to have a decent standard of living.

I always thought Ben Shepherd was quite annoying but he seems like a good and true friend. Sorry Ben.

GorgonzolaSouffle · 22/02/2022 22:24

I thought Ben was funny when he put something in the bin and she accused him of throwing something away!

I think he wanted to tidy up too 😂😂😂

Watching this now and it’s really got to me- that poor man, to be so ravaged by Covid. Believe me I’m not the morst worried about corona or followed every rule but watching this has angered me thinking about people who say “it’s just a cold”. She’s amazing, her children are a credit to them too!

CallmeHendricks · 22/02/2022 22:32

I found tonight's programme (and the previous one) profoundly moving. She is, as others have said, clearly exhausted and I expect she must have very dark days. I think she does have good friends and family around her but I would be very worried about her. The depths she has had to reach into to be the rock that Derek and the kids need must be taking its toll.

I've always liked her as a broadcaster but blimey, she's gone way up in my estimation. She's awesome.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 22/02/2022 22:34

Does anyone find it a little uncomfortable the amount of footage she shared of derek presumably without his permission.

I'm not sure I would want to recover from such serious illness and find out it had been documented and broadcast to the country.

(Not to say I don't think she is doing an incredible job. It just sits a bit uneasy with me)

Netaporter · 22/02/2022 22:35

What an amazing family they are and the children are an absolute credit to them both. I thought it was an excellent documentary and yes it is very personal but I do think in her shoes faced with mounting care bills and the chance of unique treatment you would do anything to get your husband better… I only have admiration for her and god willing he gets better as time goes on.

Candleabra · 22/02/2022 22:35

This is a hard watch. Poor Kate. She is an incredible woman.

Custardpudding · 22/02/2022 22:36

Kate looks exhausted do I hope her close friends do look out for her. She’s doing an amazing job looking after her children and working and looking after Derek.

No because they have to pay for all of the medical support somehow/ he can speak enough to say yes or no
MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 22/02/2022 22:38

I wouldn't want to be broadcast to the nation when I was that vulnerable....but if that paid for treatment that could make me better then I'd understand why those that loved me did it .
