SPOILER-FREE THREAD

Plenty of bitching? Sure. It goes with the territory.

But telling him to get some respect for carrying on an experience he has enjoyed? Mon now.

He is interacting with his fans/followers/whatever. He isn’t hanging around the set of ITT or the News at Ten, demanding to show off his latest little twirl.

Most will ride some sort of strictly wave. And why not? I honestly don’t see what he has done wrong 🤷‍♀️

SoupDragon · 25/11/2021 10:23

Yeah, but I follow some ex-Strictly people on the socials and they aren't fishing for their followers' votes/attention like this.

He isn't "fishing for votes" though! He is asking his fans and followers to say what dance they'd like to see him do.

He's clearly thoroughly enjoyed learning to dance with Amy and wants to carry on. The only people who will see are people who are already following him. They're already giving him "attention"

IntermittentParps · 25/11/2021 10:28

Give it time
(that's a joke)

Fishing for votes on what dance to do.

Getting a bit bored with this argument now. I think his behaviour is attention-seeking and a bit desperate. You guys don't.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/11/2021 10:50

He has to come back and dance a bit in the final, so keeping ticking over isn't a bad idea.

Getting a bit bored with this argument now.

As am I. Some people are just determined to find fault with anything he does. It's utterly ridiculous and a bit desperate.

Asking his fans and followers what dance they'd like to see is not "fishing for votes".

SoupDragon · 25/11/2021 11:24

(And, for the record, I'm not a fan girl.)

JacquelineCarlyle · 25/11/2021 11:26

I'm not a fan either but I do agree with you @SoupDragon

I hate when these threads turn into arguments though as I watch Strictly for fluff & sparkles & enjoy these threads to support that!

ElftonWednesday · 25/11/2021 11:44

I don't think it's fishing for votes to be active on social or traditional media. But it is playing the Strictly game well, and Dan is certainly not the only one to do it. Dan is a nice guy but also sporty and competitive. Of course he wants to do well, if he's enjoying the experience and it will give him a good career boost. That's what most of them go in it for, as well as the money and enjoyment from doing the actual competition.

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2021 12:24

Maybe he hopes Craig might still sign him for the tour?
Deborah Meaden paid for and carried on her lessons iirc
Sara said she felt a loss and has Aljaz visit.
Amy also ''wasn't ready'' so if both want to have a last session for a week, it's not affecting anyone else at all. Artem and Nikki Bella on dwts recorded a last dance video (they reprised their AT and was well worth a look, exquisite) and put it on youtube for their fans.
I would happily have seen Nina and Neil do this or anyone else I liked.
Tom isn't trying to hamper others, it's for his fanbase.
If I was a sleb and had the cash to retain a pro's services, and wasn't exhausted, I would also want to learn the dances they had saved up - if there were ones I really wanted to learn (tango, paso, VW, salsa are my four). Maybe he is a completist or quickstep was on his bucket list. Either way can't get my knickers in a twist about it.
I respect Matthew Bourne (loved Car Man) and if he says I just didn't get the contempowaft, then I am happy to watch it again - it would have made no difference to my vote but in the vt would have been more useful to explain the unrequited love element of it than harping on about his sister. Kevin also thinks it was misunderstood. I couldn't remember Les Mis so I thought Tom was meant to be a ghost Grin
Often when choreoing in my head, poor Tony Beak or me would end up going into the light. I used to get ribbed about it mercilessly by my erstwhile partner. (But subsequently we have had dead ghost partners, Tony Beak and Lesley J/Nat and Greg/similar vibe with Aljaz and Helen).

Dreaming of Anton Wink not sure if it is a waltz tempo though, am hopeless with time signatures.
SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2021 12:29

Here you go. Have posted it before no doubt. But Artem and Nikki put a last dance vid up for their subscribers without anyone complaining (and they were absolutely robbed that season. I'd've wanted to do a Ricky Whittle and see the voting figures Wink)

melj1213 · 25/11/2021 12:35

Sara said she felt a loss and has Aljaz visit.
Amy also ''wasn't ready'' so if both want to have a last session for a week, it's not affecting anyone else at all.

I think the difference is that Aljaž visited Sara to help with the "post Strictly transition" - he took her out for dinner, spent time with her kids and husband etc - in the first few days when you're still partly in the Strictly bubble doing the post-Strictly press but don't have training to fill the days. Sara was gutted to be out and had a really close bond to Aljaž but if they spent any of their post Strictly transition dancing, they kept it off social media so that the focus was on how supportive Aljaž was being to Sara and her family even though they were out of the competition.

Amy and Tom are presenting it in a way that screams "I'm just going to pretend that I'm still in the competition, so please engage with our training and dancing in the same way you're doing to those who are still in the competition". To me, it comes across as desperate and clingy. He's perfectly entitled to continue to dance with Amy if he wishes but the way he is presenting it, to me at least, is just cringy.

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2021 12:37

The above wasn't a new routine just a new video (they had done it for movie style week iirc). However, the asking your fans what they want you to dance is nothing new - Strictly finalists have asked followers what to do for their choice. Also, DWTS have used it as a ploy before - asking fans what next dance should be or nominating a song I think, not sure whether it was just for a Switch up (partner swapping week) or a group challenge or both, but they have definitely used a viewers' vote to dictate a routine before).
I assume you make money from you tube channels - not sure whether any revenue is made from insta or twitter, assume it's just publicity but Tom has a book signing soon Xmasaurus one, so they make their money on keeping fans happy as part of the junket?

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2021 12:43

I see what you are saying mel but I wouldn't have known about it, had it not been posted on here as I follow neither. It is only for their stans then, no? Did they end up doing a dance chosen by followers and where is the footage? I could only see they had done a bit of QT and a few of his earlier routines again? If you are going to hire a studio, I want a complete routine!!

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2021 12:47

Oh and James and Pamela's unseen AT (which they ended up doing on tour) was put up on youtube after they came 3rd. I didn't mind the 'Look what you could have won' aspect of it simply because I was gutted it was new routine she had taken the time to learn and we never got to see on the show. It would not have stopped the Kara-Artem juggernaut and Matt baker was hugely popular but it might have got her enough votes for 2nd, it was fantastic.

ElftonWednesday · 25/11/2021 12:52

I'm glad I didn't get to see that on screen. Ugh.

Kartem were wonderful, I miss Artem.

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2021 12:57

Really, elfton it would have got 10s!!!! One of my absolute favourites. I posted it up here for a pp recently. You can never go wrong with Gotan Project music.

ElftonWednesday · 25/11/2021 12:59

I like the music, but I just don't like James Jordan. At all. Or Brendan. And I'm glad Anton has moved on to judging.

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2021 13:00

Have never understood why another pro hasn't recycled Peligro, seeing as Dave Arch and co will have already learnt it Confused

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2021 13:08

I like all the pros, even short-lived Jared Murillo!
Were I in a parallel universe famous ever on Glitterball Brendan and James would have hated me though ( I am plus-size) I am pretty sure I'd have been paired with poor Anton.
That said, when both were good, they were really good. Both came over as arrogant but James knew how to choreo a decent number and to say he started out as a Latin dancer, Brenda did get his ballroom up. I have never understood Aljaz's gapping.
I watch James's choreo with Pamela, Cherie and Denise and Brendan's routines with Soph and with Sunetra. Preferred Anton with Katie rather then Emma though, the latter just lacked chemistry for me and ended up in the final as a last hurrah amazing rather than a connection.

Yes, that was stunning but the production to make it look like a film/video clearly enhanced it - would like to have seen it done in real time on the dancefloor.

Plus, as they were presumably shagging at that point, the real chemistry helped and to do a last dance probably makes a bit more sense. Plus, I suspect it was for Nikki's reality show Confused

IReallyLikeCrows · 25/11/2021 17:50

I don't usually watch the Christmas special but I might this year as I like all three celebrities who've so far been confirmed.

I have a weird relationship with Strictly. I absolutely love it but when it's done I'm happy to say goodbye to it for another year. In recent years, when it's about to start, I'm always unsure whether I'll be "bothering" this year. I always do, obviously. I think it's because I find the first few weeks a bit exhausting because of the huge number of couples.

Sunbird24 · 25/11/2021 17:53

@SequinsandStiIettos @Claymorekick I found the production a bit irritating on that one, sorry! Too much focus on their faces or faraway shots when I wanted to see their legs. Just personal preference, as what I could see of the dancing did look good

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2021 18:05

Here you go...

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/11/2021 18:07
with the intro but poorer quality
EsmaCannonball · 25/11/2021 18:36

Moira Stuart!!!!! I'm loving the Christmas line-up. Team Moira.
