Rachel & Vincent's waltz

DeegeeDee · 19/11/2021 08:26
I like Austin and Erin's jive -
Watching these reminds me I don't miss the audience clapping along Hmm

ChessieFL · 19/11/2021 08:41

You should also watch Ed and Katya’s salsa, for sheer entertainment value!

TomelettewithGreggs · 19/11/2021 08:42

I know she is unpopular on here but Alexandra and Gorka's jive was fabulous.

As was their paso.

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 19/11/2021 09:38

Cynthia Erivo is stepping in to take Craig's place on the panel this week.

JacquelineCarlyle · 19/11/2021 09:54

Who is that and why has she been chosen? How do you know?

IntermittentParps · 19/11/2021 09:57

@riotlady

Thank you everyone, I’m enjoying working my way through all of these! I’ve watched a good few Oti and Danny ones previously- absolutely magic!

I was really impressed by Debbie McGee’s Argentine tango until I googled her and realised she was a ballet dancer. I had assumed she was a tv presenter and had learnt on strictly to be dropping into splits all over the place xD

I knew Debbie McGee was a ballet dancer and didn't think she really belonged on Strictly, but I absolutely loved her Argentine Tango nonetheless. It was laser-sharp.
WeAreTheHeroes · 19/11/2021 09:59

A quick Google tells me she is an actor who has done a lot of musical theatre.

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 19/11/2021 10:00

It came up on the Strictly FB page.
EvilRingahBitch · 19/11/2021 10:01

Cynthia Erivo is a British actor and singer who's been in a whole bunch of musicals. Most topically she's just been announced as playing Elphaba in the movie of Wicked.

Bobholll · 19/11/2021 10:04

Isn’t she going to Elphaba in the Wicked movie? She’s a fantastic singer! Don’t know much about her personally.

I’m shocked Tom will be mentioning his sister this week. Really shocked. 😂🙄

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 19/11/2021 11:47

She’s also a Tony and Grammy winner and two-time Oscar nominee according to Wiki. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of her!

JacquelineCarlyle · 19/11/2021 11:59

Very impressive credentials - can't believe I've never heard of her. Hope she's good!

EvilRingahBitch · 19/11/2021 12:06

I think it's a good fit for both parties. She's a very high status booking for SCD, topical because of the Wicked announcement and seems charismatic and outgoing. But she's not as well-known in the UK as her achievements would warrant on paper, unless you're a proper Musical Theatre buff, so it's a great profile raiser for her. Harriet was a big success in the USA, hence the two Oscar noms, but pretty much sank without trace here and elsewhere in the world.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/11/2021 12:13

She sang at the Festival of Remembrance this year.

Cynthia Erivo is fantastic.

EsmaCannonball · 19/11/2021 12:32

The Strictly producers are terrible at fan service.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/11/2021 12:40

Do they think they'll put her in Craig's usual place and make her go first?

I suppose Tess changes the order she speaks to them, and they all score independently anyway, but going first seems harder somehow!

OP posts:
JacquelineCarlyle · 19/11/2021 12:45

I thought Shirley always went first & then for each subsequent dance, Tess moved down the judges to go first (so Shirley is first for couple number 1; Anton is first for couple 2 (& Shirley then last), Craig for couple number 3 & then Motsi first for couple number 4 & it continues to rotate).

Or do you mean scoring? I don't think that matters as it's scored independently, plus I thought they had a rough idea of what their scores will be based on the dress rehearsal, so no real pressure as such as they've already pretty much decided before the live show.

MaggieFS · 19/11/2021 13:20

I was going to ask why on Earth they'd chosen her, and then remembered it's musicals week Blush

melj1213 · 19/11/2021 13:56

Idk if anyone else follows Sara but she has some extremely adorable stories on her Instagram at the moment - her kids were struggling with the idea that Aljaž wouldn't be around all the time any more so he travelled up from London to spend the day with them - picked them up from school, had a movie night did bedtime stories and stayed over to take them to school this morning.

I love hearing things like this because it shows that some friendships do go beyond the show, that they don't just drop each other never to speak again .... though I am sure some couples can't wait to see the back of each other!

I still think her performance was impressive though, considering her age; 59 at the time I think.

Aww that’s so sweet.

Was Alexandra Burke unpopular on here? This is only my third year on the thread so I wouldn’t know, but she was really good and gracious re. the critiques as I recall? Was wasn’t to like?

IntermittentParps · 19/11/2021 18:10

Partly because she was clearly basically a professional dancer. I think some people found her gushy/OTT too, although I didn't think she was that bad.
