@melj1213

Idk if anyone else follows Sara but she has some extremely adorable stories on her Instagram at the moment - her kids were struggling with the idea that Aljaž wouldn't be around all the time any more so he travelled up from London to spend the day with them - picked them up from school, had a movie night did bedtime stories and stayed over to take them to school this morning.

I love hearing things like this because it shows that some friendships do go beyond the show, that they don't just drop each other never to speak again .... though I am sure some couples can't wait to see the back of each other!

He's just so lovely.

Dear lord, this musical is awful.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 19/11/2021 19:03

IntermittentParps

Partly because she was clearly basically a professional dancer. I think some people found her gushy/OTT too, although I didn't think she was that bad.

I didn’t think so either... oh well.

SmellyOldOwls · 19/11/2021 19:14

I loved Georgia and Gio's rhumba. That was a vintage year for Strictly.

I agree. And that year, when the judges talked about the standard being fantastic, exceptionally high, better than ever before etc, etc, it was actually true.

IReallyLikeCrows · 19/11/2021 19:47

I loved just about everything that Oti and Danny Mac did, in fact probably all of it. A favourite of mine was Joe McFadden and Katya's samba because I remember when we heard what they were going to do and thinking that it would be an absolute car crash because it made no sense. And yet, there it was, utterly wonderful. Kudos to Katya for the choreography on this.

EvilRingahBitch · 19/11/2021 19:58

I quite agree about Joe and Katya's samba. If you think about it in the abstract it is audible that it can work to a samba rhythm but it was still an astonishing feat of choreography and teaching from Katya to actually pull it off.

My contributions to Operation @riotlady Catch-up are:
Matt Baker's jive because it makes me smile.
m.youtube.com/watch?v=n5OcnanhScg
Harry Judd's Charleston because I love watching Aliona and someone's already recommended his superb quickstep
m.youtube.com/watch?v=NPaUmYMEXAQ
And Harry and Aliona's American Smooth which is just gorgeous and a close second to Danny and Oti's AS
m.youtube.com/watch?v=zU1Ls53Ho7w
Jay's Tango
m.youtube.com/watch?v=f3uhJNgtNrY
Compare and contrast with
Rachel Stevens' Argentine tango to the same music - possibly the best ever pair of dances to the same song

These will keep me going forever, thank you! I’m off on Monday so might have a little vintage Strictly marathon.

Tomorrow is my birthday so DH has agreed to watch Strictly with me in the evening (big sacrifice on his part) but we’ll be watching on catch-up after DD is asleep

JacquelineCarlyle · 19/11/2021 20:49

Happy birthday @riotlady Grin

TheMadGardener · 19/11/2021 21:06

Smug Tom and Amy are going full barefoot contempo-waft tomorrow for their Couples Choice.

Dan and Nadiya's Charleston doesn't look too bad from the clips. He can swivel anyway and they look like they are hugely enjoying themselves.

The kids are going to adore Rose dressed as Anna from Frozen.

Think Kai and AJ's waltz will be quite understated but beautiful.

I really don't know what the bottom two will be this week. Probably Tilly again but who else? Will the Dan vote hold up? I'd be fine with Rhys or Tom hitting the bottom two.

EvilRingahBitch · 19/11/2021 21:47

Oh I forgot.
Kimberley and Pasha's tango, also to When Doves Cry. Arguably the best of the three.
m.youtube.com/watch?v=TdYyeNM6THg

I have no idea how tomorrow is going to pan out. Dan and Rhys who would otherwise be vulnerable have got dances which should suit them (though the choreographer on ITT was quite wary about Rhys's technique). I agree that Tilly's in trouble and maybe the boys will be vulnerable with a slightly less eye catching VW. I can't see John being good enough at classic ballroom to beat AJ and Rose on scores.

MaggieFS · 19/11/2021 21:56

Watching some of those old dances a few things really stand out to me:

 1. How much less the cameras used to move around the dancers which made so much easier just to watch them move around the dance floor. I thought it was me just getting old and whingey but actually it hasn't always been like it is now
 2. The orchestra and singers used to be much more visible at the back of the stage. And I'm sure they used to name check the singers but don't recall that this year?
 3. I really do not miss the audience clapping along

Just watched Rachel’s and Vincent’s AT. I forgot how wonderful it was
Really miss Vincent and Flavia
I know she is unpopular on here but Alexandra and Gorka's jive was fabulous.

As was their paso.
Alexandra Burke was fabulous
It is just a pity that there was so much negative press about her

Fenelladepompom · 19/11/2021 22:37

Loved Alexandra Burke. Tom's contempowaft looked weak on ITT. Maybe his time to go? Worried for Tilly though.

I like Jay and Aliona's tango the best out of those three (hadn't seen the other two before)

Amen!
ChessieFL · 20/11/2021 08:42

I think the orchestra and singers are less visible now because they’re further back and all behind Perspex screens for COVID reasons. Maybe that’s why they’re not namechecking the singers - they used to show them as their names were said but maybe they can’t do that now because of their stage positioning so they don’t bother with the namechecks now.

TheMadGardener · 20/11/2021 11:12

The band are really good and the male singer (Tommy?) is fine, but they really need to get a better female singer.

I’d completely forgotten this number and how good it was. One of those times the choreography and characterisation suit the celeb to a tee

And the pro - Katya's "acting" was brilliant too.

StCharlotte · 20/11/2021 11:46

Looking back at those past dances and mourning the beautiful costumes... I seriously wonder what's gone wrong?

riotlady · 20/11/2021 11:51

Thanks @JacquelineCarlyle!
