Please not Paddy McGuinness - he's someone I can't warm to at all. (I appreciate you were joking but given he does seem to be everywhere, it's not beyond the realms of possibility!)

Bowednotbroken · 17/11/2021 18:41

I do love Jeanette's dress tonight! I'm enjoying the masterclass section as it breaks down two or three steps at a time.

SmellyOldOwls · 17/11/2021 19:05

@WeAreTheHeroes

On My Own is beautiful ballad - not dreary, but it is a tear jerker when sung and performed well. If you don't know Les Mis it's well worth getting to know. I could probably sing the whole show for you, but you'd enjoy it more if you saw a professional production Grin

If it's the usual strictly band doing it you can almost guarantee it will not be done well Grin

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 17/11/2021 21:00

Jeanette's dress was fab! I love Johannes' style too.
Nancy sounds like such a taskmaster! It's clearly paying off though.

Pashazade · 17/11/2021 22:10

I saw Will Young as the Emcee in the last big Cabaret tour he was bloody brilliant.
Struggle to see that a dance to any of the Six numbers would work well, although House of Holbein could make a good CC!
I'm sure Rhys is going to over egg his Jive, he doesn't seem to get moderation on any level. Loved his Charleston but Jive requires rather more control of the limbs!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/11/2021 23:32

I saw Six for my birthday, was very underwhelmed.

It finished and I was like

THAT WAS IT?!

I didn't even buy a mug.

TheMadGardener · 18/11/2021 00:21

I'm already cringing at the thought of the squeaky female Strictly singer murdering "On My Own".

My class at school learned to sing "Revolting Children" recently and are very excited to see the song being done on Strictly this weekend.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/11/2021 00:26

Lovely Stories from Rose and Gio on IG by the way

geojellyfish · 18/11/2021 06:42

Interesting that Rose spent the evening of her birthday with Gio too...

I'd have found it more odd if he hadn't have been invited. It looked like there was more than just the both of them so presumably her partner was there, it looked like another guy was there in one of the videos. I don't think I'd read too much into it.
covetingthepreciousthings · 18/11/2021 07:30

I was more distracted by thinking about how awful it must be to eat food directly off of what looked like a mirror Grin

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 18/11/2021 09:19

There’s quite a lot of criticism on here re the band and singers murdering songs and playing the tunes very badly, but it mostly sounds great to me... I must be hearing something completely different Confused

WeAreTheHeroes · 18/11/2021 09:29

I agree with you!

charliebear78 · 18/11/2021 09:33

I usually think it sounds fine..but I come on here afterwards and it is usually full off critism.
Last week I did think iris was sung badly(but I love that song so perhaps that's why..)

Runningupthecurtains · 18/11/2021 10:04

I've never thought the band do a bad job but the vocals are often a bit Confused

I basically agree. Sometimes the singers are a little off, perhaps, but considering the number and range of songs and styles they're required to perform, I think they do an astonishingly good job. They don't get much thanks on the show. The last time I remember anyone thanking the band in their exit speech was Claire whatsername who danced with Brendan, aeons ago. She made a real point of saying 'what they do is unbelievable.'

I know a musician who knows some of the Strictly band and he says they only get the song list about two days in advance. And they don't need to work through them or note anything down; they can just tell you off the cuff what the tempo will be, what cuts they'll make to fit the time limit, how they'll arrange it, what the instrumentation will be etc.

There's little live music on general telly (as opposed to dedicated music shows like Jools Holland) and I think it's a really precious thing that needs recognising and celebrating. Just the old-fashioned fact that they play the theme tune makes me happy Grin

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 18/11/2021 10:45

I love that there’s a live band, it adds a whole dimension over just playing a cutdown recording.

Do they use a live band on DWTS?

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 18/11/2021 11:08

I wonder if the celeb dancers find it quite tricky at first having listened to a recording to practise during the week and then having to dance to a live band on Saturday.

Yes that too! And I missed the slither of arm next to Rose in that clip initially so was more puzzled that they had had dinner for two on her birthday.
mydogisthebest · 18/11/2021 12:14

I would much prefer to hear the proper recordings of a song. They do that on Dancing on Ice.

I do think it can't be easy for the singers to sing such a wide variety of songs but sometimes feel they really do murder a song.

I hate it when they sing a song I really like. I always dread it when I see they are singing a George Michael song

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 18/11/2021 12:48

There were four spoons on the mirror (which I agree l wouldn't like to eat off!).

I like the band, although sometimes it doesn't quite sound how I'd imagine... My pet peeve is when they cut something so it stops rhyming.

Dancing to live music is fantastic though — I've been lucky enough to dance to the Empress Orchestra at Blackpool before.

Phew! Finally caught up. I am always behind on a Saturday and Sunday because of putting the DC to bed and it takes me days to catch up.

They'd better not bloody ask Tom Allen to be the 4th judge, he really is on everything.

Did anyone else pick up on Claudia actually wearing coloured lipstick on Sunday rather than the normal nude? I thought she looked beautiful with it.

I didn't mind Dan staying. I quite like him. He did one speech which was a bit overkill but most of the time he's spot on with his comments. I had put him in a bundle with Sara, Tilly and Tom and any of them could go in any order so he hadn't outstayed his welcome yet.

Tom is so vanilla but I think a pp has it spot on that he and his wife's whole brand is about being as far from raunchy as you can get.

Still can't work out how John got a 40 when he was so obviously out danced by Johannes. How can it have been perfect? And echo that it made the judging of AJs look more wrong.

I haven't missed Bruno. And for me, it's been a welcome break from Bruno and Motsi trying to out do each other with shouting and flailing arms. I don't mind one but prefer it without both.

I do wish they'd stop over producing the dances - as per the horrible lights on AJ's dance which made it hard to view. The opening dance was so much more enjoyable to watch and that's also usually the case when they have the pros dancing to the live act. Then it really is all about the dancing.

Have there been comments anywhere beyond mn about what a poor deal Sara got from hair and make up? I just don't understand it. Looking back at her VT it was horror after horror.

TomelettewithGreggs · 18/11/2021 13:57

I was thinking the other day that Strictly standards have fallen so much.

This was Giovanni and Georgia's Charleston, for instance, whch got a 40 in 2015.

Compare it to Rhys and Nancy's perfect 40 Charleston:(

That was great! I enjoyed that when I usually hate the Charleston! Thought Rhys' was good too, though
Redcrayons · 18/11/2021 15:08

I loved Georgia and JV, that’s one of my favourite dances. She was robbed.
