Better late than never.

Unsurprised to see Adam go.

Relieved J&J went for tender rather than sexy.

Outraged at that performance of Kings & Queens.

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 08/11/2021 08:53

Marking my place while watching Dan talk to Tom and Amy on BBC Breakfast. Oh Gawd they're mentioning his kids and have a clip of him dancing with his wife Hmm

bonfireheart · 08/11/2021 08:56

Gio & Rose behave very much like brother and sister, he looks so much at her cos it helps her to lip read.

I don't understand Tom and G's media following...yes he was in McFly but there's been bigger bands...yes he writes great books that my DD loves...but they're so so boring both of them.

ilovesooty · 08/11/2021 10:45

@SoupDragon

I think she is coming across as very measured and mature.

I agree with this. How she handled being in the dance off was far better than many older celebrities.

Her dancing has improved immensely since the opening weeks. She's far better than Dan, Sara or Adam and way less irritating than a few others!

I agree. I was very impressed with her attitude to the dance off.
ilovesooty · 08/11/2021 10:48

@lollipoprainbow

Tilly was ok about the dance off because she knows damn well she will be saved! The judges over mark and overpraise her every week.
I don't think she was overmarked this week in comparison with some of the others.

And it's never pleasant to face the fact that people haven't voted for you, regardless of whether you think you have a chance of being saved. At that point she didn't know who her opponent was going to be.

mydogisthebest · 08/11/2021 11:32

Hopefully I will be wrong but I could see Tom getting to the final and maybe even winning.

I think the McFly vote must be very strong. His wife won celebrity and, let's face it, she was very boring so he could easily have as much support

altforvarmt · 08/11/2021 11:53

Did Neil do himself a mischief in the opening dance? It looked like he landed badly when he jumped down, he briefly appeared bent over, and then he didn't appear in the rest of the dance. Unless he did, and I just missed it.

MamaRaisingBoys · 08/11/2021 12:09

Gio seemed nervous to me when Claudia asked him about the “best thing that ever happened to him” thing. All that hand wringing and fidgeting he was doing.

Well I do wonder if SCD force people to say gushing things they wouldn't normally want to commit to. Sophie Ellis-Bextor, for example, comparing it to a "cult" because they kept being asked things like "Is this the best thing you've ever done?" "How incredible has your dance partner been?" etc. Along the same lines, they probably want to keep pushing the hype this this year is the very very very very very very best EVERRRRR...

ForeverbyJudyBlume · 08/11/2021 12:39

I didn't think I'd like Tilly because of the nepotism angle but I'm impressed - she dances really well and comes across as sensible and dignified.

I cannot BEAR Dan staying in week after week on the British love of vanilla vote

Ditto Tom - I've met Gi a few times, she's nice but SO boring. That is obviously what the public want in their SCD champ. I wouldn't be surprised if he won either Sad

ppeatfruit · 08/11/2021 12:42

Yes Alcmeg There is a sort of cultish thing about SHHHHHrictly, too much gush gush gush. It's unnecessary because it's a good show that could be better if it toned down a bit.

I LOVED the Irish dance. Nice to see something that's more traditional. Those 2 tapdancers WOW !!!

Oh thanks for new thread Polka We LOVE you Grin Grin

At that point, she didn't know who she was up against so there was no way of her knowing that she'd be saved. Rose was only one place above her.
ppeatfruit · 08/11/2021 13:46

Yes xsquared I like Tilly, she doesn't come across as 'entitled' in any way. her dancing is improving every week.

BUT Dan is no way better than her.

The pros were far more competitive and ruthless in the early series. I don't think it was as much about having fun and making friends for life, it was about getting your hands on the glitterball. Grin

I love Sara. I'm shocked Sara is only 37! She always seems to be presented so much older. I'm not saying she looks old but some of the styling (both Strictly and Dragons Den) has definitely aged her.

Is she really?!? I think they do style her as a lot older. She was good this week.

Tom and Amy's outfits and that bridge were SO tacky. I don't get why they liked his paso so much either. I thought it was very unconvincing and his paso face just looked like Beaker from The Muppets.
AJ was terrific. Tilly was good, I thought. She and Nikita are very sweet to watch. Liked Dan, even though I know he's not that good; he palpably loved the song and the routine. Liked Rose and did not know what Anton was on about; she looked so confident!
J and J were so classy, really beautiful and moving.
I enjoyed Rhys and found him and Nancy less annoying than usual. His dad is super-cool too.
Adam has been disappointing throughout for me. I can't say why but I do feel that Katya has missed the mark with her choreography this series; she usually gets so much more out of her slebs than I expect, even slightly rubbish ones like Ed Balls (sorry Ed, did love you).

Maireas · 08/11/2021 15:12

Sophie Ellis Bextor needs to look up the meaning of the word "cult"! Yes, it's an immersive experience and full on. Surely you'd understand that before signing up? Of course the presenters want you to gush and be positive. I think some celebrities have been a bit sheltered and/or naïve.

Maireas · 08/11/2021 15:35

Dan doesn't seem to be popular on here, but I like him and I like his attitude. He says it's a privilege to be on the show and to have the amazing experience. I've seen him on Breakfast tv talking about it. He never moans about the hours and the effort, and continuously pays tribute to his wife who has to do extra at home, and to Nadiya for her work and professionalism.
Plenty of people work long hours and are away from their families with less financial and societal reward. Many manage to maintain happy marriages. I know you're quite physically intimate and there's a lot of time together, but really, it doesn't need to wreck your marriage or your life.

I know what she means, TBF. It is constant 'how amazing is it?!' 'how excited are you?!?' and then when people get kicked off, Tess and her talking-to-a-2-year-old face and 'are you really sad?' 'are you crying?' 'aren't you going to miss it all terribly?' etc etc.
Maireas · 08/11/2021 15:50

I think it's part of the vibe, @IntermittentParps.
I can see that it could get annoying. It often annoys me as I'm watching. What I take issue with is the hyperbole.
Cult it is not.

IntermittentParps · 08/11/2021 15:54

It is part of the vibe, yes, I don't disagree; I can just see how people would find it overbearing.
I think SEB was being a bit tongue-in-cheek when she used the word 'cult'.

Alcemeg · 08/11/2021 15:57

Talking of tongue-in-cheek, can I just check that the title of this thread is a joke (I'm new here)?!

One of my favourite fantasies is having Vicky Gill as a live-in wardrobe assistant. She would dress me daily in spangles and frou-frou and I would look like a goddess in LIDL.

ElftonWednesday · 08/11/2021 15:58

Dan is a nice man but if he doesn't leave within the next couple of weeks I may
raze the BBC to the ground be disappointed.

ElftonWednesday · 08/11/2021 16:05

And I still don't know what the judges saw in Sara's quickstep. Her posture was dreadful, she was being dragged round the floor by Aljaz and her footwork looked dodgy. And her outfit and hair were just dreadful.

I agree. I thought she'd messed it up. It looked messy and confused to me but what would I know?!
