Absolutely loved it!

My list of big house jobs includes 'declutter' in every room so I was hoping to put off doing it be inspired. Loved Stacey Solomon though would have liked more from Ivan on the cleaning.

I watched it today. I thought it was a bit off how they met, she seemed to be very young and said she'd gone from school to having babies and still looked very young

Yeah the Facebook story was Yikes! Rather than Cute!

Rummikub · 10/09/2023 23:00

I thought that too about their story.

He was health and safety manager.

Juniper68 · 11/09/2023 10:43

I really couldn't sleep at night with my washer facing that way. The bakery was the obvious place for a utility room but she needs a bakery.

I didn't notice that about the stalking. Eeeeewww.

CornedBeef451 · 11/09/2023 11:13

And he said they met, she got pregnant a couple of months later and a month after that they got married. It made me very uncomfortable when she still looks so young.

I'm glad they live next door to her parents so she hopefully has support.

Agree about Rob - I'd love to let him loose in our house!

I'm very fond of the programme - it's a bit cheesy at times but it really does have a good heart in the middle of it all - and the four of them are a fantastic team.

Rob is hot!

That was the craziest position for a washing machine, and then they put a countertop on top, which would make it almost impossible to get washing out or in without nearly breaking your back.

determinedtomakethiswork · 13/09/2023 20:13

I read a really interesting interview with Julie Carter, which was about her past. She is really inspirational.

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11851049/amp/DILLY-CARTER-mums-breakdown-taught-healing-power-tidy-house.html

She was adopted and her mother had severe mental health problems. Her mother lives with her now and she said that her mother gave her a chance and now she wants to give the same to her. She's absolutely lovely.

I don't think I've seen a team of people on TV before where each of them is so nice.

Islandsadness · 13/09/2023 20:23

I don't buy this family - she didn't bake because someone might want to pick it up and see the house? Why would they come inside?

At the start SS always says they don't judge. Well I do! How can you have that much shit and not deal with it, plus keep buying more. How can they afford to waste so much money?

He seemed older and I think she said he was the HR manager or something like that when she applied for a job, he saw her and immediately stalked her on Facebook.

It all sounded a bit odd but they seemed ok. I just felt sorry for her as she seemed to have emotional attachments to pretty much everything and he was very disorganised with paperwork.

It did make me wonder what he was avoiding dealing with!

Omg I thought this straight away! No way should a manager be connecting on Facebook with a brand new graduate. And she's now a SAHM with no career. I can't believe they did the show admitting to all that. I mean they really needed the help. But blimey.

My view is that Ewan is the secret ingredient because he's so gentle, I think he's the relationship oil between the bigger personalities

Love this @PermanentTemporary

May have to pinch 'relationship oil' Wink

Really missed Dilly today!

i would be like the mum and be aghast at how ruthless my dc would be at decluttering.

Orcubed · 15/09/2023 07:48

I felt a little bit like they didn’t take the family’s lifestyle into account last night. Surely if you are a farmer and are outside in all weathers and mucky conditions you’re going to need more coats and shoes than most.

Also although they cleared and tidied the utility room I didn’t see any evidence of a system put in place to avoid them needing laundry hanging to dry in every room or piles waiting to be put away. The focus seemed to be more on the craft room which was lovely, but didn’t actually address whether the mum was ever going to get the time to use it.

The mugs thing always stresses me out! I need at least 8 just for me!

Last week (aside from the inappropriate Facebook stalking) the thing that annoyed me was chucking all the food and shampoos etc away. They were unopened packets of sweets, they don’t actually go out of date! Just don’t buy any more until they’re gone. So wasteful.

I get that they want to give them a clear and uncluttered place to start again from but surely they could have a box of backstock somewhere rather than just chucking it.

HufflepuffRavenclaw · 15/09/2023 08:02

I am a knitter and shuddered in horror at the idea of arranging yarn only by colour. Most knitters will arrange by thickness/weight. (if they arrange at all and don't just sling it all in a cupboard like I do).

Didn't like the Sophie woman - was she a friend of Stacey's, missed the first 5 minutes - and really missed Dilly and her bossiness.

Meredusoleil · 15/09/2023 08:20

Yes. Sophie Hinchcliffe or something I think she is called. Known as Mrs Hinch in cleaning circles. She didn't come across as well as I thought she would.

VanessaShanessaJenkins99 · 15/09/2023 10:11

I read this morning that the farmer family have moved to New Zealand! So they bascially used the show to de clutter and sort the house out before emigrating!

Sarvanga38 · 15/09/2023 10:18

I vowed last night that Stacy would never be allowed in my house - 10 mugs for 5 people?!

Was also cursing at the screen when she wanted to streamline the coats, not allowing for being out in all weathers, possibly having some waiting to dry out/be cleaned but still needing to work.

I didn't realise who she was

She came across as vacuous and tbh I really like Stacey but the accent in three fold in yesterday's show

I much prefer Dilly

I read this morning that the farmer family have moved to New Zealand! So they bascially used the show to de clutter and sort the house out before emigrating!

It was probably filmed a while ago - he was a farm manager so the house would only have been rented from his employer as part of his job and those kinds of jobs can be very fickle - if the owner feels they aren't getting the results they want or there's an issue with an inspection it's the farm manager that is given their marching orders fairly quickly.

Every chance the NZ job opportunity only came up very recently and these things tend to happen with very short notice rather than being planned for a long time.

It made me laugh when SS said 'no one needs 40 mugs Lianne'. Clearly SS has never had to host a team of silage contractors/ sheep shearers or a young farmers stock judging competition.

WellTidy · 15/09/2023 13:14

Dilly had cancer and was having surgery when this episode was filmed. She’s just said so on her instagram. She seems to be doing much better now.

Oh no! I didn't know that. What type of cancer - did she say?

I'm with the family on the coats!

The piles of donations/ trash etc never really fill up, so I imagine that they're constantly being taken behind the scenes to be dealt with. Sometimes you do see the background team doing the removals. There must be hidden decorators too as the rooms suddenly change colour before you see the fiddly crafting/ upcycling parts.

I kept my childhood hot air balloon lampshade and used it for the DCs. We put a little cuddly toy in it and when DS was 1, he wanted it down and it's been his favourite ever since 😍

She has 23 coats!!! No farmer needs 23 coats

WellTidy · 15/09/2023 13:53

She said she had her entire reproductive system removed so I’m guessing uterine 😞

I was gutted not to see Dilly. Had no idea she'd been having medical treatment - all our best wishes Dilly, though I'm sure you have better things to do that read through this! It was not the same show without you.

I don't know if others read the article about Dilly that someone links to upthread, but there was a piece in that about how, in her very cluttered childhood home, her bedroom was a sea of tidiness. I thought of that last night when we saw the older son's room.
