Absolutely loved it!

My list of big house jobs includes 'declutter' in every room so I was hoping to put off doing it be inspired. Loved Stacey Solomon though would have liked more from Ivan on the cleaning.

I suspect they were quite difficult to work with and reluctant to part with anything. I don't know how the programme budget works but I also think that they would have been equally reluctant to spend any money? Thus the awful makeshift 'accessories'.

They spent a lot of time on the daughters bedroom even though she doesn't actually live there. Was it because they weren't allowed to do other rooms? I appreciate the son didn't need help in his room but they could have decorated it instead or covered the main living room?

There was just something off about this episode. I thought the son and daughter were lovely though. I hope the lad gets his own place soon.

It really annoys me the way they seem to have started (or maybe I've only just noticed it) making a point of buying some new household object designed for purpose A and using it for purpose B when a. if you are spending money, you could just buy something specifically designed for purpose B and b. it just looks awful (because it looks like the object it actually is) and doesnt really work anyway

thinking of the plate-rack bookshelf (which looked dreadful because the books don't fit) when you can get stuff like this for £7 https://www.topshelf.co.uk/product/concealed-book-shelves/

and the terrible backing rack 'accessories' holder - that was so ugly it was eye watering.

A friend works with hoarders and its hard going, wealth is immaterial other than allowing more space to fill. Currently working with couple in their 70s, educated, erudite and comfortably off in a 4 storey townhouse stuffed to the gills. They want more space but everything they have inside their house is 'very important, we couldn't possibly part with it'. Right down to the old sweet wrappers on the floor.😟

I thought this family were just as much in need as any of the others TBH, clearly a lot of issues stemmed from the arriving with nothing in childhood. Just because a family is a bit more affluent doesn't mean they necessarily have the psychological means to sort out the mess they have gotten into by themselves. And it was multi-generational living with adult children at home, grandparents not so long ago and the extra pressures that puts on the space. I loved the colour they painted Roshni's room but didn't like the bar, it took up too much space.

This episode felt a bit half hearted to me somehow, didn’t seem like the family or the crew really threw themselves into it as much as normal. And the dining/kitchen/living room/bar felt squashed at the end!

Also agree. Wasn't sure if the room with the bar and dining table and sofa, was their only living area? As there was a lot squeezed into it!

I really didn't care for the colour overload in all the rooms they had painted. It was just too much.

I agree. Although I noticed Roshni's room colour matched the top she was wearing!

I thought it would have been nice if they'd made a panel where the son could hang all the stuff that his dad refused to let him hang on the walls.

I thought the bar took up a crazy amount of room, but I guess they had all the glassware as well as the booze in it.

I'm just watching this now and couldn't help thinking that they could have put on some sort of 'bazaar' event and sold much of the clothing and jewellery and ornaments. Maybe in a village hall or such.

Definitely. Must be loaded to donate so much good stuff.

I didn't like the dad. I hope the son manages to get his own place asap?

Yes. I think him and his son don't see eye to eye on a lot of things!

Just watched last night's episode. It was a nice house that just needed a massive clear out. I take it they didn't touch Jai's room, as it didn't need anything doing to it?!?

So much work for very little return in my experience.

I really liked this episode! It was different to the young kids, busy working rhetoric that's been shown previously. It's easy to see how they end up accumulating so much and even if they're affluent it can be hard to know what to do with it and how to part with it, you could see how difficult it was for them at times in the warehouse but thought they did well. The kids said they'd tried to declutter with there parents but couldn't get through to them so needed the team.

There must have been a living room at the front of that house across from where the garage was, but I don't think they ever showed that. Just the garage room and the kitchen and extension at the back. I found that odd.
They weren't as needy as other families and that did make harder to be as invested in them. They also didn't throw themselves into it as much, I wonder if the kids applied and pushed them into it.

Why did they keep going on about it being a multigenerational household? It was parents with their son.
Also I found it sad the daughter said she liked how affectionate her dad was with the dog, given how strict he was when she was a child. Giving more affection to your dog than your child is a bit rubbish.

I think they had recently had the granddad living with them but he had died. So in that sense it was.

It felt like these parents were shopaholics - the bangles and alcohol etc. So many pans! And yes spices would go out of date so strange to keep so many

So it lacked the dynamic of the viewer thinking 'these people really need help and this show is their only way out'.

Yes, probably that - my first instinct until they got to the really packed rooms was that they just needed to get off their own arses and tidy up - along with a hefty dose of 'I strongly suspect there's all sorts of stuff that should have gone but you weren't allowed, so it's been hidden away again'.

Definitely. Loads of 25 year olds still live at home often in far smaller houses than theirs.

I enjoy this programme but not so much this episode. I think they gave up in places like keeping all the spices - how many were actually in date? I think both mum and dad wanted the family to move forward and didn't really want the son to get comfortable with a man cave. I love Rob (he can come to my house anytime) but I didn't like the bar.

I suspect that the excessive buying is also a result of arriving with nothing, @Netaporter.

Report
Netaporter · 12/03/2024 23:26

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor i understand that, but aside from suitcases and inherited pans not much of it was old? It seemed like they’d not been able to pass by any shop that was selling stuff off cheap? It seemed very profligate given their story of arriving with nothing.
