Anyone watching? I love this series and fancy Perez Grin He seems to have some extra timber on him.. I don’t like him in a suit, much prefer a fishermans knitted jumper on him..

Where were we left when the last series ended? Did he get together with someone? Someone who seemed to have shady motives? I can’t remember!

OP posts:

@Kinraddie

I don't think series 7 will feature the Duncan/Perez/Donna assisted suicide case. That will be over and done with and referred to but not based around it. There will be a whole new confusing case for us to puzzle over.
I wondered if that might be the case as well.

If they are going to get off it seems a waste of a series iyswim.

Unless they don't...

BlueSkyeThinker · 25/11/2021 18:02

Is it too depressing to wonder if Nurse Flirty is pursuing Jimmy so determinedly as a long-range part of Donna's Evil Plan? He does have a record for picking wrong 'uns.

Also if Jimmy's suspended and Tosh's on maternity leave does that mean... Sandy's in charge?!? Confused

GinnyMackesy · 25/11/2021 18:04

Nurse O'Flirty, if you don't mind.

Did I imagine it though or did Cora originally say suicide?

So why would the letter change that?

She was surely too weak to have done it or not?

And Duncan's confession would have led credence to the letter which might have not carried much weight.

I mean she could have written it & killed herself because she was vindictive & not because there was any truth at all in it.

Afterall she let someone stay in prison for over 20yrs for her crime!

FluffyBooBoo · 25/11/2021 20:52

So why would the letter change that?

Because helping someone commit suicide is illegal.

diddl · 25/11/2021 21:01

@FluffyBooBoo

Yes I know!

But if she was too weak to have done it herself then that was the case with or without the letter & Cora wouldn't have said suicide in the first place?

FluffyBooBoo · 25/11/2021 21:24

Would Cora have known whether or not she was capable enough?

And even if she was capable of doing it herself, it doesn't mean she did.

But having said that - a letter posted before it happened, by the person that is the 'victim', is hardly proof that it actually happened...

Clawdy · 25/11/2021 22:17

That was a very brief appearance for Cassie! About two lines in the whole series.

MilkTooth · 25/11/2021 22:33

How much would the actress have been paid for those two scenes, in one of which it may not have even been her, as she’s non-speaking and in the distance? And I realise that the beach by Perez’s house may be on Shetland and wherever they shoot the interiors hundreds of miles away…?

BlueSkyeThinker · 25/11/2021 23:22

The other thing we really noticed this series was an escalation of jimmy's habit of abruptly ending phone conversations the very nano-second he's got what he wants. Eg

Nurse o'Flirty (O'Flaghterty?): Your dad is wandering around Lerwick in his pjs and he's just caused an accident.
Jimmy: oh, FFS... can you take care of him, unpaid, for an unspecified length of time?
Nurse O'F: sure, you're grand, but will you be wanting a drink later?
Jimmy: (snaps phone shut and wanders off)

Or

Jimmy: Tosh, will you get a Forensics team over to Remote Island straight away and find a clue?
Tosh: yes, I'm on it but...
Jimmy: (snaps phone shut, already walking away as if he's never learned the words THANK YOU ALISON)

DevilishlyEvil · 25/11/2021 23:27

I enjoyed that but haven't seen the previous series.
Are they available to watch anywhere?

Yes, I noticed the same thing. No wonder Tosh wears a permanent expression of quizzical bewilderment — she’s waiting for the ‘Thank you, Tosh!’ that never comes…

@FluffyBooBoo

The Marianne story was weak

Very.

If she had left Shetland (or even Fetlar), people would know. There's not too many options. Had she been reported as a missing person, they would have checked the ferries and the flights, and they would know that it was very unlikely that she had gone anywhere.

I'm fairly sure that in a previous series it was mentioned that they don't keep records of foot passengers on the ferries.

It doesn't matter. Fetlar has a population of about sixty people. It's incredibly unlikely that she could have got on the ferry without somebody seeing her that knew who she was. And only the inter-island ferries don't keep records. The 'north boat' (ferry to Aberdeen) keeps a record of everyone that travels.

She was in the first episode for the funeral. Possibly the second one too.

Wasn't Jimmy's Dad played by Bill Paterson in the earlier episodes on Fair Isle?

Maybe not but then maybe people were happy to "let it go" until the letter turned up?

I agree though that it's hardly proof us it?

diddl · 26/11/2021 08:05

Something else.

I do watch a lot of crime/detective/mystery stuff-did the ringing of the door bell giving away the murderer plot seem familiar to anyone else?

Faevern · 26/11/2021 10:05

@FluffyBooBoo I'm enjoying your informed snippets. My DP has always talked about wanting to live in the Shetland Islands, he may well have gone if he didn't have me refusing to budge.

He has some fantasy about freedom, fresh air and fishing. I have this idea of harsh freezing remoteness. Pray tell, who is closer to the reality?

LadyEloise1 · 26/11/2021 10:13

I really think there should be some investigation into Shetland becoming the murder capital of the world based on population.
It stole this accolade from Jersey ( Bergerac ) and Midsomer.
Smile

I had really wanted to visit.
But I'm worried about the level of crime on the island. 😉

Hmm. You both are!

Freedom: depends on his definition. Some people find their vision of freedom there - there's space and everywhere is accessible. No need to travel for hours to get to the beach or the main town or the airport, and love being part of a small community. Some find it claustrophobic and hate that people (think they) know your business.

Fresh air: yup, loads. But sometimes it travels at 80mph (like this weekend) and the ferries get cancelled so there's no getting away from it.

It's not (technically) all that cold, as we are protected by the gulf stream - but wind chill makes it feel much, much colder. I've been outside in a t-shirt in -2°C and didn't feel cold as it was one of those rare times when it wasn't windy at all.

But there's definitely plenty of fishing!

Maireas · 26/11/2021 10:27

@florentina1

Can anyone tell me who killed the drone man?
I think Carrie by mistake? Niven told her to give him a fright but she didn't understand about decompression.

I think it's probably safer living in Mogadishu.

Maireas · 26/11/2021 10:37

@ButtonSister

I hate the over used trope in drama of women getting pregnant unexpectedly - do none of them use contraceptives? (See also, every soap ever).
They do seem to have a higher than average fertility rate.
