Last thread here.

Well, we care, because we're picky like that!

The Strictly chatter continues...

I entirely agree that to say that someone only got voted to stay because there would be an race based outcry is a blatantly "I'm not racist BUT" style comment.

JemimaTab · 10/10/2021 23:43

I thought Judi was a lot more fun and looked she was enjoying herself - which is very “on brand” for Strictly. Whereas Katie came across as a bit downbeat and not that happy to be there. Based on that, I understand the judges’ decision.

Sunbird24 · 10/10/2021 23:50

Wasn’t it a few years back that there were cries of racism because of Tameka, Melvin and Naga being voted off in consecutive weeks?

I haven’t watched the results show yet as I was driving, and I don’t imagine the judges considered that for a second when they made their decision, but it would be a little naive to think someone out there might not have made the same claim if Judi had followed Nina. Correlation and causation obviously not the same thing but never stops people saying it is if they have an agenda to push (or papers to sell!)

JacquelineCarlyle · 10/10/2021 23:54

I agree @Sunbird24

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/10/2021 23:56

It's very much a media based frenzy now yes, rather than viewers, papers creating an issue where there isn't one but, though its many years ago now, the Judges Save pretty much solely exists to PREVENT not create Unsporting Exits

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/10/2021 00:01

I recall with as much chagrin as Brendan Cole exhibited at the time, the Judges showing overt favouritism via the save to prop up Emma Bunton, even though it was clear she didn't have the public vote.

Who the judges choose or don't choose has many factors and its really reductive to everyone involved to say it only boils down to race factors

2Two · 11/10/2021 00:09

Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but does anyone else get the impression Oti is becoming as generous of bosom as her sister?

GreenLunchBox · 11/10/2021 00:10

Fgs, Judy is very overweight. She tries, god bless her, and is doing far better than I would do with nowhere near as much weight on me as she does. But if she had gone nobody would have batted an eyelid because she's the big girl who's not expected to go far. So why on earth would the production team decide they need to fix it and tell the judges who to vote out? She was better than Cruella in the dance-off and that's all there is to it.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/10/2021 00:12

I may be wrong about the judges save, I've checked and I don't think it existed then but enough blatant favouritism was shown her for it to be raised as an issue at the time

Exactly, very well said!

Thank you, that's what I meant. Of course Judi wouldn't have been voted off or saved for being black, but you can bet that some sleazy tabloid would have raked up the earlier furore and pointed out that two POC had been voted off so far.

Anyway, does anyone have any more info about next week's dances? The two songs mentioned so far both sound awful. I really hope Robert and Dianne get a good song/dance where they can show off some skill instead of looking ridiculous. Wonder if Adam''s still blue around the edges??

SoupDragon · 11/10/2021 07:36

The accusations of racism in the past were directed at the Great British Public weren't they? Particularly when people who weren't at the bottom of the leaderboard before the public vote ended up in the dance off.

With Melvin, Naga and Tameka, people overlooked the fact that they were not the best dancer on the night. Tameka was injured I believe, although this wasn't mentioned until after she'd gone.

I think Oti looks as if she’s put on a bit of weight since last season. Still got an amazing figure, of course - goes without saying - just a little more of it.

SoupDragon · 11/10/2021 08:18

I'm not convinced she has. Her costumes haven't been the most flattering ones so far this series!

ApolloandDaphne · 11/10/2021 08:22

@dollybird

Kai is fab, but his teeth really bug me. Sooo white at the front, but when he does a big smile you can see the very unwhite teeth behind.
I noticed that last night.

Yes, I thought the same.
Brightthing · 11/10/2021 08:27

I think Kai might have a false cap thing / bridge over the top 6 teeth, unless he’s had veneers on only those ones or something

I bet some of the papers would have made a story of it just as they do almost every year.

It doesn't seem to matter that the person eliminated was a terrible dancer, if they are not white the papers claim that all the racist viewers wanted them out because of their colour

Lampzade · 11/10/2021 08:46

I rather Judi stayed than Katie.

I think she (or the powers that be) have changed her bra. This series it seem a bit less 'lift and separate' and a bit more monoboob.
Figgygal · 11/10/2021 08:51

Just watched Ben Platt do a recent performance of the same song on America’s got talent as was suggested at thread and yes he was much better performance not through any fault of his own the sound just wasn’t right last night
Interestingly he was also stood in a swamp in a pair of PJ‘s then Grin he is fabulous though

I’d rather Katie had another go over judi but onwards to next week

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/10/2021 09:22

I think I'd have saved Katie, based on that performance. But I don't have particularly strong feelings about either of them, so if I re-watch, I might change my mind!

Last night pro dance wasn't choreographed by Jason Gilkinson, and it was film week so I suppose it's a bit different, but I'm struggling to understand why you'd recruit lots of really good ballroom and Latin dancers, then get them to just do "stage-y" dancing.

MareofBeasttown · 11/10/2021 09:25

Is it just the pandemic or is Strictly not very good this year? Finding it hard to be invested. The routines all seem very low on dance content and high on faffing about with suspenders, props etc.

ChessieFL · 11/10/2021 09:28

I think it’s better this year, there’s been a lot of good dances early on in the competition.

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2021 09:36

mareo Oh I'm loving it this year (bar the weird CGI effects) the actual dancing is good, there are far less nana\toddler geddons.

Motsi is calmer. Anton is lovely. I WAS thinking the music is better but not so much last night, I agree the tenor in his pjs was not correctly 'miked up'.
