Last thread here.

Well, we care, because we're picky like that!

The Strictly chatter continues...

Oh that David and Victoria.

I’ll get my coat.

Comefromaway · 09/10/2021 23:12

You could see Johns technique from week. He did a lot of dance as a teen. Recreational male dancers tend to give up as teens unlike girls who stay because of their friends. Only the more serious boys stay.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/10/2021 23:12

Aw come on he might have gone to a dancing class. In Chorley.

PrincessScarlett · 09/10/2021 23:12

Brilliant mix up of Davids and Victorias 🤣🤣🤣

orangeautumnleaves · 09/10/2021 23:13

@TheMadGardener

Voted 3x for Robert as I think he can dance and was stitched up by dreadful Muppetry. Plus I enjoyed seeing David and Victoria in the audience. Looking at the Strictly FB page tonight, each video of each dance has between 150-300 views EXCEPT for Rose and John''s videos which have over 2000 views each! This suggests they both have massive public support. Going to go out on a limb already and say the finalists will be Rose and John (on public vote) and AJ (on dance ability & judges' votes). Unless any of them get Covid at the wrong moment. I would like to see Katie and Tilly in the bottom two this week.
I've got my money on John and rose getting to the final. Loved rose and Giovannis dance tonight.
EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/10/2021 23:13

Someone did give a full run down of his experience in one of the early threads

ApolloandDaphne · 09/10/2021 23:15

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit

He is alleged to have danced as a youth
As have many. Doesn't make you a great dancer
Bobholll · 09/10/2021 23:17

John’s had no more dance training than Kelvin, who also danced in his teens. Kelvin was very popular (obviously).. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s not like either of them have kept up dancing throughout their adult life. John makes food. He doesn’t even act unlike Kelvin who also had performance experience.

I have zero issue with dance training. The show would be hideous without those who can dance early on 😂

Winniewonka · 09/10/2021 23:17

I'm just stunned by Johannes's choreography. I thought how are they going to do a Paso without a cape? But there it was towards the end, Johannes WAS the cape, whilst John's arm did the presenting. Superb!

DontWantTheRivalry · 09/10/2021 23:18

Just caught up. Loved J&J but Johannes absolutely outshone him. I couldn’t take my eyes off Johannes. He was mesmerising.

Runningupthecurtains · 09/10/2021 23:27

I pasted a list of this year's contestants dance experience according to one of the tabloids on one of the early threads. On John they said

Great British Bake Off winner, John Waite first began taking dance lessons at five years old he disclosed: “Between 10 and 14 I did ballet, modern, and tap"

So about ten years of lesson with presumably at least three classes a week aged 10-14. It might not be BigBen but it's more ringy than my local church.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/10/2021 23:33

My daughter did ballet modern and tap, once a week, from 3 to 14. She couldn’t dance her way out of a paper bag.

Bobholll · 09/10/2021 23:33

So yes. He’s had no more training than Kelvin. Who won.

I danced 3x times a week from age 5 to age 6. Also ballet, modern & tab. I haven’t danced since I was 16. I’m now 33 & HIDEOUS at dancing 😂

CaveMum · 09/10/2021 23:33

That’s what my dance teacher always said - the woman/follower IS the cape, and not (as SCD try to claim) the bull!
Bobholll · 09/10/2021 23:33

*5-16

Runningupthecurtains · 09/10/2021 23:34

For the sake of balance the full list was:

Tom Fletcher -attended the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School, which specialises in performing arts including dance and music. Admits to "having done ballet in a unitard"

Robert Webb - Flash dance.

Katie Glynn -participated in The Greatest Dancer for Sport Relief in 2019.

Eastender and Goodness Gracious Me star, Nina Wadia confessed to having some dance training when she was younger. “I did some Indian dance training called Bharatanatyam from ages four to nine, then when we moved to Hong Kong from 11 to 16 I did tap dancing.”

CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson has had street dance lessons.

Great British Bake Off winner, John Waite first began taking dance lessons at five years old he disclosed: “Between 10 and 14 I did ballet, modern, and tap.”

Chef Tilly Ramsey and Eastenders’ Frank Lewis star Rose Ayling-Ellis, both attended ballet school as children.

Ninth constant Ugo Monye took part in The Real Full Monty in 2018.

More than half the group have some dance experience varying from one offs for Let's Dance/Full Monty to years in dance classes. I guess finding celebs that have zero experience is really impossible and the few of years of ballet/tap I did age 5-8 40 years ago certainly wouldn't be of any help to me!

Bobholll · 09/10/2021 23:46

Anyone find John & Johannes relationship really odd.. I think maybe it’s just coming from a place of being incredibly grateful at the opportunity to be gay & dancing together on the biggest show on the BBC. Especially for Johannes. He seems completely overwhelmed by it. & fair play. It cannot have been easy to be himself for many years. I loved his post about Kai today & their dance.

But the pair of them are so just so clingy and there is just some peculiar tension pouring off the screen everytime I see them! 👀

Bobholll · 09/10/2021 23:50

Also, fully agree with some earlier comments. What is it with Gorka & his partners? There is just zero chemistry everytime.. and also zero evidence he remains in contact with any of them. Which is pretty stark contrast to many of the pro’s. Jeanette & Aljaz seem to become part of their celebs families everytime!

I’m not sure Gorkas got over being benched in 2019!

Runningupthecurtains · 10/10/2021 00:07

Karen definitely left an envelope of crisp fivers in Vicky Giggles office this week, Aljaz and Robert clearly didn't.

Ellmau · 10/10/2021 00:10

Aljaz looked as if he was loving it though Sara's smile was rather more of a fixed grin.

2Two · 10/10/2021 00:15

@DietrichandDiMaggio

I appreciate Johannes is a great dancer, but I get fed up with how much everything is made to be about him, both in the celeb pairing and within the show generally. The dancers' job is to make the celebs look as good as possible, and not to make it about them, but he doesn't seem to have got that message, nor does he get called out for out-dancing his partner, whereas other pros do.
I sort of agree. I really didn't understand the marking for their dance, because having two men dancing effectively the same dance really showed up the weaknesses in John's technique.
2Two · 10/10/2021 00:19

The judges shouldn't be allowed a 10 paddle before two thirds of the way through the series. It was just ridiculous bringing out all those 10s today, it will leave them with no room for manoeuvre from now on.

1forAll74 · 10/10/2021 01:22

I missed most of it tonight, just saw the two guys dancing, and they were excellent.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/10/2021 06:53

i loved John and Johannes and am a fan of Adam generally. i liked his rumba, Tom Fletcher was great

I agree that they (both) come across as genuinely grateful to be there.

I remember when Johannas first joined SCD, he was emotional and extremely grateful.

I really like John as a person. I’ve followed him on Insta since his GBBO days, and see him on Steph’s packed lunch occasionally too (when I work from home and actually have my lunch!). He comes across as a genuinely humble northerner. Very down to earth and unassuming - he admits he’s not typically ‘camp’, always talks about his partner of several years etc

J & J’s relationship on social media, you can see is that of a really good friendship. John did a Q&A on Insta earlier in the week and he admitted that despite how he looks, his confidence / self esteem has always been something he’s worked on. He talked about his partner being his absolute rock (in response to people saying will him and J be a couple)

John’s partner has moved to London with him and the dog whilst SCD - I don’t think there is any ‘strictly curse’ concern at all.
