Who is your favourite characters in Succession. I thought this was one of the best shows I have seen in ages, can't wait for new season which will be out soon. Lots of great characters in it. Greg, Tom, Roman. Love to hear your take on it..

British too and didn’t know that about furniture. Can someone explain it to me? Is it because the upper classes inherit antiques rather than have to buy furniture ?

Pretty much

'Is it because the upper classes inherit antiques rather than have to buy furniture ?'

Yes, but not just antiques. I know a posh couple who got given most of their furniture by his family when they moved in together. Not antiques, just bits of furniture that were hanging round their massive houses. I had never heard of such a thing

Yeah, it's more about being given your furniture by family. I guess a lot of it will happen to be antique, but that's slightly by-the-by.

This explains a lot about my ex MIL who was/is obsessed with the royals/aristocracy and suffered delusions of grandeur. She was constantly trying to foist crappy old furniture onto us and usually succeeded as XH couldn't say no to her.

I had so much fun furnishing my own house post-divorce...with the exception of decent beds and sofas it's entirely furnished by Argos & IKEA and I bloody love it Grin

CaliforniaDrumming · 09/12/2021 17:03

Not being British, I didn't understand the furniture and doctor thing at all. But thanks for explaining!

TiddleTaddleTat · 09/12/2021 21:26

Thanks for clearing that one up.
Just watched latest episode again, boardroom scene with Roman sending pic to Logan is even funnier second time round.
Amazing scenery in Italy - found this article on the locations www.houseandgarden.co.uk/article/succession-hbo-italy-locations

SandlakeRd · 09/12/2021 22:36

This is such a fab programme. So much subtlety and stinging one liners! The scenes with Tom and Shiv and Kendall and Logan were just unbearable!

One thing bugs me though - given how posh their mum is I have often thought their names don’t suit them. Surely she would have gone for a Tristan or Octavia something like that?

I am guessing Logan was in charge of naming them!

bellalou1234 · 09/12/2021 22:36

Just now episode 1 love it

LiterallyKnowsBest · 10/12/2021 11:11

Oh no! The Jeremy Strong backlash from the New Yorker article has started … Xmas Sad Xmas Grin

'Kieran Culkin is an amazing actor. I just want to have a bath every time he appears on the screen.'

He's such a repulsive little shit. Roman, not Kieran! The NERVE of him harassing Geri with 'the items' 🤢

I can't tell if Gerri likes the items or not. I think she likes it tbh. Sexy minx.
IntermittentParps · 10/12/2021 11:37

I think Gerri likes them and/or is not offended or repulsed by them. I think she's a pragmatic and a tough person who's probably seen worse, and just thinks 'whatever gets him/me through another day at Waystar...'.

I think she is just playing the long game and storing them up as ammo. She doesn't like them but they could be leverage. Plus she is not easily fazed.
Roundlampshade · 10/12/2021 17:45

I think Gerri’s face said it all when she first realised that Roman was doing the biz during their phone conversation. It was a mix of incredulity, laughter and the realisation that she now has power over him.

Yes this, she's not attracted to him at all but I think he amuses her and she probably finds his dickpics very silly but wouldn't be intimidated by them.
MintyCedric · 10/12/2021 20:44

I think maybe it's a bit of a buzz for Gerri.

She long widowed with an all consuming job and one gets the impression has always been a sensible 'good girl'.

However batshit the whole thing is, it's a bit of an adventure.

CherryBlossomAutumn · 10/12/2021 23:16

Gerri is one of the best, toughest players and the smartest isn’t she, so I think initially she found it hilarious but always knew the line. Her job is her number one priority, and the ‘items’ were in far too dangerous territory for her job wise, and she knew it. Which is why she asked him to stop. She is always really careful not to have anything that anyone can use against her.

MargotMoon · 11/12/2021 09:19

I think it's important to remember that apart from the bathroom incident, which she seemed to find amusing, Gerri has never encouraged Roman in any way.

She told him to stop sending her the 'items' and he continued, she is being sexually harassed and the writers had us thinking it was a 'will-they, won't-they?' in some sort of romantic comedy way, but it's actually turned into quite a serious commentary about consent. Logan wanted to fire Gerri!!

Its been brilliantly done

Lottapianos · 11/12/2021 10:31

'but it's actually turned into quite a serious commentary about consent. Logan wanted to fire Gerri!!'

Agree. I knew the second that the 'item' landed on Logan's phone that Gerri was going to get the blame for it somehow. I really hope she survives, but Shiv smells blood and isn't going to let this opportunity go easily

This is spot on… never thought about it that was but its clever the way they made it all seem quite funny and almost 2 sided when Gerri has never encouraged him at all!

She knows she holds all the power…. Didn’t grass him up before or act too “off” about it all to keep Roman happy and on side but if the shit hits the fan (which it has) she knows she’s got a strong sexual harassment card she could play if Logan did try to sack her. She could get a huge payout in that circumstance to walk away and stay quiet. I don’t think he will sack her though, she seems quite valuable to him. I imagine she will make it clear to Logan that she doesn’t care about it all and it will be swept under the carpet… whether Shiv will let it go that easily though…

Roundlampshade · 11/12/2021 20:21

Is it the season finale on Monday?

MarshaBradyo · 11/12/2021 21:56

We’ve started again

Anyone else doing this?

It’s incredible! Just knowing the character arcs

TiddleTaddleTat · 12/12/2021 10:40

Yes season finale tomorrow !! Shock
I am going to have to start again from the beginning because I will miss succession too much.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 12/12/2021 13:03

Me too - this is my most anticipated tv show in a long time, and normally I hate shows that are not instantly accessible but feel this adds to succession's draw. In part if I am honest because the premise is on a loop, but the layers of complexity are enthralling.

Lottapianos · 12/12/2021 18:10

'I am going to have to start again from the beginning because I will miss succession too much.'

Me too. I adore it, but can only cope with one episode at a time. It's like a fabulous whisky - one glass is exquisite, any more is just too much and gets overwhelming
