New thread!

Why would Canada send Serena back to Gilead? They want to prosecute her for war crimes.

I am loving the use of colours, clothes, all seems to have some meaning, and also loved the circle in the library with what looked like Handmaid 'wings' on the two chairs. The pro-Gilead people shouting for Fred and Serena I found weird - why wouldn't they go and live in Gilead if they think it's so great? Surely they would be allowed to?

Think of it like British fascists in the lead up to WW2?

I agree about the use of colour and clothes to set up beautiful shots that are rich with meaning, though I think the use of light and dark to do the same has been allowed to go too far. It has got to the point where firstly it gets implausible because surely someone would just turn the blooming light on, and secondly it gets in the way of telling the story because you can’t actually see what’s going on on the screen.
Why do tv programme makers do this? Are they all using super high quality, bright, high definition equipment to view the footage so they don’t actually have any idea how hard it is to see on a normal domestic tv?

I agree, sometimes I can barely make out who is in the scene.

Personally I loved angry June. Seemed to me that that is how you'd be after escaping.
Loved the overhead shots, I had to rewatch for the lamps, but not as much as the previous seasons, especially the red umbrellas against the snow.
The Testaments cover has 3 hidden details.

OverByYer · 12/08/2021 17:47

I re watched for the lamps and the teal / red chairs in the library.

stockpilingallthecheese · 14/08/2021 11:34

I've just started series one again and absolutely loving it! It's just so removed from the latest seasons.

Crinkle77 · 14/08/2021 15:34

Series 1 was amazing! Subsequent series just haven't lived up to that and I always been slightly disappointed. Although I'm so invested in it I'll continue to watch.

OverByYer · 15/08/2021 09:15

The news from Afghanistan and articles on sky news about climate change affecting fertility just show how perceptive Margaret Atwood was in writing this book

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 15/08/2021 09:27

I listened to an Eyes on Gilead interview with one of the writers where she said they still stick to the rule of not writing anything that hasn’t happened. Except that what they write is never as bad as what’s actually happening.

OverByYer · 15/08/2021 09:30

Yes MA was inspired by the Iranian revolution when she wrote it but yet again women’s rights are being eroded. In 2021 ffs.

YoutubeZoom · 15/08/2021 14:52

I love angry June, too. You would never expect a man with PTSD on TV to sit around journalling. (Sorry, I am a perpetually angry middle-aged woman.)
Will Janine die? Or turn Aunt Lydia compassionate?

AuntLydiasNewHairdo · 15/08/2021 17:16

I've just caught up on the last 2 episodes. I missed reading this thread while I was away. Off to catch up.

OverByYer · 15/08/2021 17:38

@AuntLydiasNewHairdo great name 😂

LadyEloise1 · 15/08/2021 18:41

I too thought of The Handmaid's Tale when hearing the latest news on Afghanistan Sad.

AnyFucker · 15/08/2021 18:43

.

WitchSharkadder · 15/08/2021 18:59

Yes, so sad what's happening in Afghanistan, I had tears watching the news report earlier when they were discussing the absence of women in the streets. It's devastating and terrifying how quickly their (our) rights can just be whisked away from under them and they are powerless to stop it.

GrandPrismatic · 15/08/2021 20:39

Praise be…another episode I can watch live tonight for only the second time this season…I am truly blessed.
Just gettin in the zone!

GrandPrismatic · 15/08/2021 20:41

Last weeks episode was a veritable feast with everyone bar Nick putting in an appearance…here’s hoping for some Commander Blaine action this week

EachandEveryone · 15/08/2021 20:46

Ive just opened an Aldi giant caramac and pecan bar. Sadly no wine or booze.
