Tennis: Enjoying the last throes of the grass court season

Fizzy Nick has called Casper 'boring' I don't know why he has such a problem with him (obviously the Rome incident happened- but that was his own fault)- Casper seems perfectly nice to me!
And what can possibly we wrong with PCB- he's another one who never seems to do anything controversial at all- apart from be onthe other side of the net when Djok is throwing a wobbly.

Maybe the fact Casper has probably won more in a couple of years than Nick has in his career, is the problem? It seems to be a theme. I think it's finally hitting home he is not actually a teenager- and the 'younger' players are winning things - and he isn't.

Due to the time difference, I've a feeling we might not get to see much of Rafa (I will spend half the week googling 'time in Washington' because i will keep forgeting' ) - but fingers crossed he wins anyway.

Blimey- reading a bit more of Dick's whinges- he has a real issue with clay- and thinks the last few tournaments have been pointless. Why? Because he can't play on the surface? His one-trick serve doesn't work so well on it?

He really is a strange man.

I'm not sure who he is trying to impress really, with his dumb statements, and feuds. I wish he would disappear with Djok.

Casper

Casper is definitely at the top of my list of favourite players- even if really I don't actually know much about him . Go Norway.

It all really does boil down to Nick having a chip on his shoulder about the dirt- that was his beef with PCB- he was tweeting during the US Open (where he didn't play, because he was thankfully stuck in Aus) that PCB only got where he was in the rankings due to his record on clay.
At least he has a record somewhere eh. Nick?

On Instagram there’s a picture of Rafa in front of the White House. Apparently he also bumped into a fan with a dog called Rafa and there’s a picture of him not very enthusiastically holding the lead (I don’t think he’s a dog fan )

Rafa isn’t listed as playing today (UK time) so will probably be on in the middle of the night

Oh dear- what a terrible shame for the defending champion . Yes, concentrate on your actual job. Not that he's ever done that. Apparently he's disappointed he can't be bothered enough to get angry and throw racquets.

He realises that isn't actually what the game is about, right? Nutter.

Is it Serena who has a dog called Rafa? Maybe he just hasn't met the right dog yet. I'm sure Sascha can find him one- he's probably got dozens now.

Sascha's dogs even went to meet him at the airport I loved the first thing Mischa did was take his medal and put it on himself which is what anyone would do if their brother won a gold medal! There was a very funny moment when Sascha was being interviewed for German TV and he suddenly realised he had left all his racquets in the airport!

My dog wouldn't meet me at the airport. I think my dog would be glad if someone would leave the house .

The pictures of Rafa in Dc are great - are are the comments pointing out he he is not at the White House, as the picture claims to be.
I do hope he does well this week.

Andy has taken a WC for Cincy. Not sure if it is in actual Cincy this year, or NY again.

I'm enjoying the Olympics- but feeling really guilty at the fact I'm doing nothing useful, and we've had a rubbish holiday so far- not that I can do much really, what with ds still isolating (today is the last day).

I think Rafa’s scared of dogs (amongst other things ) - yes I’m sure he could borrow one of Sascha’s!

Don’t feel guilty about watching the Olympics Raahh especially if you’re isolating. I wouldn’t have minded isolating when Wimbledon was on!

I have been staying up extremely late watching the Olympics. I'm really enjoying the RTÉ late night commentary because they are so enthusiastic about everything and make it fun and they know their stuff. I find it hard to switch off and go to bed.

Just having a look at some scores- and Dan is having a nightmare and has just lost 7-6 6-0. So that's not such a good start for him after the disappointment of missing out in Tokyo
Nakashima is a bit of a big new hope in US tennis though.

Aww. They'd get no practicing done round here. We've got dozens of squirrels near our garden. They spend their time tormenting my dog. Goady fuckers.

I was awake half the night, score watching, and Rafa got off to a good start- then Sock won the wecond set- and the 3rd set went to a tie break (so I'm glad I wasn't watching!).
He is probably a bit a bit rusty- although on a good day Jack is still a threat I suppose. Still- it's a win.

Looks as if Rafa had a lucky escape there! He seems to be enjoying himself in Washington getting his buildings mixed up and wearing his cycling helmet over his cap

He does seem quite happy over there.

Sadly, Kyrgios has taken a wc to Toronto, which is annoying. His presence detracts from other players. I hope he loses in the first round.

Rafa lost, sadly. I was score watching around the start, and had a funny feeling it wouldn't end well. I hope He has enjoyed his first trip to Washington anyway!
