Strictly 2021!

Couldn't see a thread yet.. maybe it's too early.. but needed to talk to people about Strictly with the news today that Zoe Ball and Ian Waite are leaving ITT!

Will Rylan take over full time? Who will become the resident dance expert?

Also, has anyone else seen the clips of AJ and Curtis on Hollyoaks? Grin I do wonder if he regrets quitting Strictly.. I'm
not sure acting is his forte.

I enjoyed the Priscilla Q Of T D sketch\dance they did. Most dances with any sexes can be done tastefully (for family viewing) or not IMO.

Bumping with some new rumours.. Elizabeth Hurley would be an interesting choice if true. Also hoping for Joe Wicks and Jade Thirwell would be good sign ups.

Laura Whitmore's already done it hasn't she?!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 13/07/2021 23:31

Aye. I think she was with Joe Varney.

Bookie fave? How???

ppeatfruit · 14/07/2021 07:47

Oooh thanks coveting ! I find that The One Show is good for news about SCD.

AvengingGerbil · 14/07/2021 08:06

I think the bookies need better sources if they think Laura Whitmore is the favourite to do it! Surely they know you don’t do it twice? And don’t both Joe Wicks and Liz Hurley live in California? I would think it very unlikely they would risk getting stuck here by quarantine all winter.

AvengingGerbil · 14/07/2021 08:07

Oh, I checked - Liz H lives in Herefordshire.

lynsey91 · 14/07/2021 08:42

Well if Maya Jama AND Gemma Collins do it I don't think I will be able to watch it

ChicChaos · 14/07/2021 09:39

Yes she has, great reporting there by the Express Grin

Not keen on Gemma Collins or Maya Jama. My DD would be thrilled if Jade did it. Liz Hurley might be good to watch.

I did wonder if Louise Minchin was gearing up to have a go, if she's fit enough - didn't she hurt her leg recently?

GreenClock · 14/07/2021 09:56

I think that Elizabeth Hurley and Rio Ferdinand would be crowd-pullers.

I’d love Chris Whitty to take part but tbh he strikes me as someone who’d rather not!

Very happy with Anton as a judge. I hope that Motsi ups her game this year and delivers more substantial feedback. Shirley is great, I’ve leant a lot from her (Craig too).

Unlike some, I’m a fan of Tess and Claudia. Such different characters. but they gel.

Me neither!
covetingthepreciousthings · 14/07/2021 21:16

Ha I didn't even clock that Laura Whitmore was listed and she's already done it Grin

Just marking my place. Strictly gives me something to look forward to going into the autumn and I love Anton as a judge!

ppeatfruit · 15/07/2021 08:23

Liz Hurley came back to Eng. for lockdown. Sorry to sound dense but who are Gemma Collins and Maya Jama?

ButYouJustPointedToAIIOfMe · 15/07/2021 10:59

Maya Jama presents Glow up I think (took over from Stacey Dooley, make up artist comp) and does a bit of radio.
Gemma Collins - the GC - did dancing on ice with Matt. She's from TOWIE; think blonde hair, big boobs, plus size, loud...but she's canny, having made herself into a brand and allegedly falling over on the ice on purpose as it makes good telly. She was on The Wheel and did quite well on it iirc. She fell down a hole on stage(?) a few years back and allegedly wanted the Beeb to put her on Strictly that year?

I think Liz Hurley would be a fab signing actually but not sure she needs to do it or would do it. Movie Week Austin Powers has been done twice already but I guess they could give it a third go.

covetingthepreciousthings · 15/07/2021 16:08

Still no announcement as to whether it will be a full line up yet? I'm sure it's usually the end of July we start getting the trickle of names being released?

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 16/07/2021 08:13

Thanks ButYouJust They both sound a bit ( plastic ,very mainstream and mindless ) to me.

I say that, but once they become familiar like that little blonde boy (no vowels) last year they sometimes seem quite human!!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/07/2021 16:17

I liked HRVY once we got to know him. And his Nanna Joyce (I think)too.
Grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/07/2021 16:19

I was hoping we'd have had somebody musical theatre related last year — Michael Ball or Sheridan Smith or somebody like that who wouldn't have been in a show while theatres were closed. They'll all be back this year though.

Walkingtheplank · 16/07/2021 22:00

The BBC usually start announcing the celebrities in mid August.

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/07/2021 08:33

Just had a quick check, so 2019 we had the full line up by the 8th of August, with celebs being announced from the 31st July.

But 2020 we didn't get a first announcement till the start of Sept!

Hoping it's earlier this year, but guess it depends if they're doing a shorter run again or not..

Polka Yes I liked his Nan too!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/07/2021 09:49

I love the nans and grandads.

But if I’m going to be honest I don’t need to be nanned out by episode 2.

Like most talenty shows, the weepfests and the parading of relatives is mostly unnecessary.

I want to see someone hoofing the sequins out of a dance. I want to see them delighted when they finally get a move right. I want to see people blossom.

I don’t need to see nans until the final. Sorry.

ppeatfruit · 18/07/2021 13:38

I know what you mean Sheldon it seems to be one way that the producers 'fill' empty time. It's possibly cheaper than having proper dance classes though I can't think why it should be! Studio based stuff must be cheaper than out of studio locations. The technicians need paying wherever they work .
