Couldn't see a thread yet.. maybe it's too early.. but needed to talk to people about Strictly with the news today that Zoe Ball and Ian Waite are leaving ITT!

Will Rylan take over full time? Who will become the resident dance expert?

Also, has anyone else seen the clips of AJ and Curtis on Hollyoaks? I do wonder if he regrets quitting Strictly.. I'm
not sure acting is his forte.

I agree about Nicola she seems a sweet girl but too frightened to 'let go' as a dancer. Maybe she'd be better without being subtly (or not so subtly bullied by her last partner!

I think Nicola seemed quite laid back, which didn't go very well with Katya's slightly... manic choreography.

Yes Polka I think that the contestants need a certain type of personality to be able to withstand the onslaught of Katya!!!!!!

I found Nicola boring. Just seemed to run or waft about in baggy/floaty trousers and no shoes - every.single.week.

It was the same thing every week - and she didn't improve at all. And we all know she's gay, so could she not have accepted that some routines just might require/be better with a dress occasionally? I got the impression that she was calling all of the shots re: wardrobe, dance etc, which is something other competitors aren't allowed to do.

Mind - she has the most amazing smile!

any guesses as to when the first contestants will be announced? Hoping it will be a full line up this year and not a reduced one again..

Ref. Nicola, I like her ,she had the wrong trainer; there's no way I'd enjoy and feel relaxed to give my all with the pocket rocket Katya behind me all the time! She's obviously a boxer not a born dancer.

I don't know who's been speculated about ppeat. I'd heard that Anton was getting Bruno's place on the panel, and that Nicola had said she wanted to come back, but other than that, nothing.

I lead a sheltered life these days.

Thanks Schady I thought they were both "done deeds'. I do listen to R2 off and on and they did mention that Anton will be a judge. Couldn't be a better man IMO! Nicky, I'm not sure about.

I’m sure she is lovely and is clearly bonny and has a smile that would light Blackpool but she was dull to watch. All that side by side shadow dancing.

And to be fair, that was probably down to choreography and making a big deal about something that shouldn’t be a big deal at all.

I don’t think it would be fair to come back.

Plenty of gay people of both sexes have danced before with opposite sex partners - having a same sex couple meant that they couldn't properly dance routines which are designed for mixed sex couples. That's probably why there was all that boring shadowing stuff.

I’d have liked it more if they’d just gone the whole hog with the strictly experience. Do the rumba. Do the waltz. Do all the dances.

But the shadow dancing was perplexing.

Same sex couples shouldn’t be an issue so why would doing a beautiful waltz be a bother?

Unless they wanted the fuss around a same sex couple but just not to show a connection between two women in a romantic sense or getting too touchy?

It just seemed wrong to me and it was perhaps why I found it all a bit dull.

They encourage the intimacy, the connection - and let us not forget the chemistry - between the other couples.

It is all about the connection this. The dancing is supposed to make you feel something.

It isn’t strictly come line dancing.

I agree Sheldon I'm not sure that poor Nick was up to much in the way of ANY dancing, maybe that's why she had to shadow Katya, (who was trying to be kind I suppose)

She possibly had no time to rehearse properly.

I'm a big fan of the match-y mirror dancing for girl/girl couples actually, but it's usually done wearing matching dresses, with identical hair and makeup etc. In Latin it can look really fresh and exciting, especially when it's done really sharply and well.

Nicola and Katya didn't do one thing or the other — they did mostly match-y choreo, but had Nic very clearly dressed as the "male" rôle.

I did like their quickstep though.

Maybe that was a touch too far for prime Saturday night viewing.
