Strictly 2021!

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/05/2021 19:40

Couldn't see a thread yet.. maybe it's too early.. but needed to talk to people about Strictly with the news today that Zoe Ball and Ian Waite are leaving ITT!

Will Rylan take over full time? Who will become the resident dance expert?

Also, has anyone else seen the clips of AJ and Curtis on Hollyoaks? Grin I do wonder if he regrets quitting Strictly.. I'm
not sure acting is his forte.

If any of those women you mention joined the panel, there would be a torrent of complaints on social media. Erin would be too smiley, Natalie too nice. That sort of thing. The flak Motsi and Shirley get is obscene. I think it’s socially acceptable to judge women more harshly. What you do is up to you but personally I don’t like it or want to be a part of it.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/06/2021 08:33

They only get flak from me when they don’t bring their experience to the judging process.

Same with Bruno.

Keeeeeeeeeeeep judging….

GrouchyKiwi · 18/06/2021 09:10

Bruno is the worst for me. When he is critical it is almost always in a nasty way, like personal attacks, instead of about the actual dancing. I get a bit tired of Craig's schtick, but at least he's negative about the right things.

Motsi is good for boosting the slebs' morale, but I'd like her to make more dance-based comments. Maybe she thinks Craig and Shirley have that covered.

GrouchyKiwi · 18/06/2021 09:11

I mean technique-based comments.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/06/2021 09:44

I’m afraid I can’t stop comparing to Arlene and Len. Craig is harsh and fair and let’s face it - usually correct in what he says. Bruno can get snarky - no need. Critique can be given without demoralising the contestants.

Motsi has had a great dance career - I wantto hear hear more about that. I want to see her give critique based on her experience.

She is beautiful and talented. I want to see more of the latter when she is judging.

I’m not saying they have to all be po faced but they are judging a dance competition. I would love to be hearing more about technique and positioning and the actual moves.

I’m not a dancer. Too fat. Too clumsy. Too ungainly. I usually go by what a dance makes me feel. But I love to hear about how to do this or that and better. What I should be looking out for.

The clip of shirl with the gent in the hall is one of my favourite clips ever. Technique and feeling - it was exquisite.

I’d like more encouragement to get folk dancing like that.

No giggles or ogling necessary.

ppeatfruit · 18/06/2021 12:18

An interesting discussion, many men and women judges are keen on sexiness. From all aspects. Yes sometimes women are more criticised than men who seem to get away with it, esp. gay men about men. Which is unfair on the women.

Though of course, to be obvious, most dances on Strictly are danced by 1 man and 1 woman. It's in our faces, none of us can ignore it. Think about the use of the word 'chemistry' that the judges apply to the dancers. it's biology ain't it?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/06/2021 12:26

I’m good for discussing the chemistry between the dancers - it all builds up (with the skills) to a dance that makes me feel something.

Art in whatever form needs to make you feel something.

I don’t care for Bruno and the girls being unable to give a comment on the dancing because they are too busy discussing the swivel of someone’s cheeks or how ripped someone is.

Can you imagine if a male on the panel went on and on about someone’s bosom bouncing in time to the music?

It isn’t necessary.

Chemistry is important. Physical attributes - maybes not so much.

My opinion counts for nowt of course. I cannot dance. My opinion counts for nowt on the strictly boards either. I’ve had that intimated more than once.

But I do love it. I just think latterly it has dumbed down a bit and it doesn’t need to.

It is a bloody joyous programme at the root of it all.

ppeatfruit · 19/06/2021 15:20

...latterly it has dumbed down a bit... YES YES YES!! Why do the producers think we're all effing idiots?

Don't get me started on the totally shxx 'Masked" stable of programmes. The race to the bottom has got there IMO!

Oh btw Oti is on R2 while we speak, she's chatting to Strictly stars.

I really want Anton to win. Just once would do.

Jahebejrjr · 20/06/2021 22:40

It would be wonderful if Anton won.

Just seen! sad to see Bruno go but glad Anton got the gig
ButYouJustPointedToAIIOfMe · 24/06/2021 10:24

That's nice and allows Graziano or Neil a spot?

ChessieFL · 24/06/2021 10:30

I’m pleased about that, I though Anton did a great job filling in as a judge last year.

TawnyPippit · 24/06/2021 10:55

LOL, I’ve always thought Anton IS Len Jr, so this is very pleasing. Just waiting for him to say “pickle my walnuts”!

Actually I think that is a good choice. I feel like Anton’s really grown ready for this and he’s got all the attributes to be a great judge - he’s knowledgeable about dance, knows the pressures of performing, is on good terms with the other judges and the pros and isn’t going to be mean to the duds.

DareIask · 24/06/2021 11:05

Really pleased. I'd once have thought he'd be a bit over the top/try too hard, but I thought he did a great job standing in last year.

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/06/2021 11:05

Oh, I'm pleased for Anton!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 24/06/2021 11:08

I’m good with that too.

I do hope that he is permitted to be knowledgeable and fair.

I would hate to see him just grinning and being a bit of a buffoon for the entertainment value.

Don’t dumb him down please.

I think he has a lot to bring to the table.

And I also think they might not have any duffers this season now Grin

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 24/06/2021 11:31

I thought Anton did a great job filling in, I'm excited for this change!

Walkingtheplank · 24/06/2021 11:34

Great news! Lets hope Anton replaces Bruno permanently. Really pleased for him.

ChicChaos · 24/06/2021 12:14

I will miss Anton on the dancefloor but I thought he did a great job as a judge last year so really pleased that he's got a full series to do this year.

GrouchyKiwi · 24/06/2021 12:42

I'm pleased about this too. I hope that he goes for a knowledgeable persona with his customary twinkle.

So glad there's no Bruno.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/06/2021 12:59

I'm pleased too. Smile

He was starting to stand out for the wrong reasons in group numbers, and although his ballroom demos were lovely, I think I'd prefer him as a judge now.

LyndaSnellMBE · 24/06/2021 13:00

Great decision. I though he was really good as a judge last time
