Couldn't see a thread yet.. maybe it's too early.. but needed to talk to people about Strictly with the news today that Zoe Ball and Ian Waite are leaving ITT!

Will Rylan take over full time? Who will become the resident dance expert?

Also, has anyone else seen the clips of AJ and Curtis on Hollyoaks? I do wonder if he regrets quitting Strictly.. I'm
not sure acting is his forte.

I watch Bake Off and can't remember John. Was this a very early series?

Ooh getting excited now with the reveals starting. Not too bothered how ‘famous’ the celebs are - let’s face it they’re not going to be A listers! My favourites are often people I’ve never heard of beforehand. Is John Whaite definitely in a same sex couple? Do we know if there will be a male and female same sex couple this year?

I don't think that all female or all male partnerships work well in this format - for example, can you imagine two blokes doing a waltz or rumba together? I think it would be better to have a separate version of Strictly for same sex couples, and keep the existing series more traditional.

However, I don't think the BBC will care what anyone thinks, so long as they are pleasing the PC brigade. Perhaps they should rename the show Strictly PC.

Actually, I have mixed feelings about m/m couples in open comps, but in Strictly I don't think they're disadvantaging other couples. It's probably more of a disadvantage to them.

I'd been keen for a same-sex week where everybody does it, but obviously this year with covid it's tricky, and it would probably feel unfair for whoever went out on a week without their normal partner.

That sounds homophobic to me. I don't really care what sex combo couples are. I'd hate to see same sex couples sidelined into a separate show.

How is that homophobic @Confusedandshaken or why would it mean same sex couples are sidelined? Surely it's better as gives more choice and we would get to watch 2x Strictly shows rather than just 1 with only 1 same sex couple who seem at a disadvantage compared to the others as it's hard to compare so they look like the odd one out?

Same-sex partnering I can easily imagine in this format. Kai did a quickstep with Brian Dowling (big brother) for a switch up on DWTS Ireland and on the Italian version, a same sex male couple did really, really well (he wasn't that good a dancer) albeit I wasn't keen on the level of distancing them props used in the initial weeks.
Then of course there was the lovely Shane and Josh when Shane was out of drag.

I have actually heard of all 4 celebs so far. This is a miracle.

John Waite was lovely on GBBO so I hope he is still as lovely as that.

Hope Robert Webb is good. I'd like him to be paired with Dianne, I think.

I don't see how she could, or why she should. I think this was also asked about people on Dancing on Ice. It would be like getting Will Bayley back, Will Young, Kelly Brook, all those others who left for similar health-related reasons.

I don’t care who dances. I don’t care who dances with a man or who dances with a woman.

But do the dances everyone is doing. And do them properly. Why no couples choice or whatever to dose a waltz or rumba week.

I don’t want the differences accentuated.

It is all about making us feel something. Dance is art. Art needs to make us feel something.

Chemistry is important. Even if it is all pretend.

It was fashion designer Giovanni Ciacci who was the Italian who I liked but wasn't sure could dance that well. He did improve though and they made it to the finals. Youtube videos included in article.
I do think representation is important. I also think you should endeavour to just get the best out of your partner according to the style/mood of the dance/music so, as sheldonesque says, do them properly!
