I love it... beautiful scenery

QAztyn · 19/05/2021 19:38

@TrickyD

Does anyone know the real location of that huge whirlpool thing that appeared in the opening scene? I have tried to find it with google but no success.
Pontystcill reservoir I think
TrickyD · 20/05/2021 07:57

Thank you QAztyn. I have now found some real life photos of it.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 20/05/2021 08:00

Well the police investigation is pretty lame. They don't seem to know everyone hated the bloke or have searched the brewery very thoroughly. I'm convinced it's Arwel who killed him and really can't understand why the women wouldn't just tell the police what they did. Except it wouldnt be a 6 parter. They're far more likely to be witnesses than anything else.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/05/2021 08:04

It seems more of an ITV drama than a usual BBC one (I've watched it all). Really think there are so many thrillers written/dramatised these days they're running out of plot twists.

I'm feeling a bit 'OD'ed on what seems to be a very limited pool of Welsh actors who are suddenly appearing in everything at the moment. At least two of the Keeping Faith actors in this one (and the woman who is the antagonistic policewoman in that has been in something else very recently too?).

@IcedPurple

Did anybody else enjoy a little smile when Anna's husband asked her if people were taking crystal meth?
I liked what they did there Grin

@NewModelArmyMayhem18

I know what you mean about it seeming more like an ITV drama, the formulas for the 2 channels do seem to be different. I can't quite put my finger on why.

cheeseisthebest · 20/05/2021 17:03

What was the crystal meth comment? Totally missed that!

Part of it is to do with structure around the ad breaks and on ITV because of the ads the episodes aren't as long either.

apilaud · 20/05/2021 17:37

@MotherOfGodWeeFella Ah, maybe. Hadn't thought of that.

Yes that's what I thought.

She is really annoying in keeping Faith and again has a nephew in the plot

Rhannion · 20/05/2021 18:28

@Serpenta

Definitely. An icon and a true original.
Kate is amazing. I was lucky to see her in concert in 2014 and it was absolutely brilliant. She is a total original.

This seems to be a thing with Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland when it comes to dramas for the big channels, tbh. Always the same few people appearing in the shows set in their respective countries. It's quite shit, they'd find plenty of other aspiring talents if they looked for it but it seems they just go "Right, we're doing a Welsh drama. Contact the usual's and see who's available". I'm surprised they didn't shoehorn in Ruth Jones or Di Botcher.

Another thing that gets on my nerves is when the main character has to be English, they managed to avoid it with this one but only narrowly because Nancy, arguably the second main character was.

Cowbells · 20/05/2021 23:13

My money is on Ade Edmundsen. Because he's very famous but doesn't have much of a storyline yet. And where did he get that black eye? Maybe Hayley knows or they plotted together that he wouldn't come to the party and then would show up later. Maybe he invested with jack who lost all their savings - which is why they blackmailed - to have a bit of cash to run away on...
Or maybe they are all in it together except innocent policeman's wife.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/05/2021 07:35

Yes was their /her savings

Wonder when he will check their account and see thousands gone

We all thought that about Sheila Hancock in the last series of Unforgotten, but that went nowhere . . .

True, but they are recycling all the old cliched storylines on this one - parental sexual abuse, lesbian kisses - it's as if the writers are stuck in some 1980s timewarp of what constitutes shock drama, so I wouldn't put it past them to dredge up Ade as the killer. Unforgotten is a bit more stylish.

@englishmummyinwales

Some of The Pact was filmed in my town in Wales too. They practically closed the town for 2 days. Looking forward to seeing it!
Which town was this, can I ask?

I've seen all the episodes and I (increasingly) felt this.

I love the sense of claustrophobia that is built up as we see the various POVs, flashbacks, etc. The sense of them all getting further and further into difficulties.

But the police seem to be focussing very little on forensics. I don't find that credible in a contemporary drama.

I do find it credible that quite a few people had every reason to want the murdered man dead.

As a Silent Witness and Waking the Dead fan, I have to say that a lot of TV crime dramas rely heavily on the police investigation being woefully inadequate. Sometimes this is explained by the leading copper being bent, or compromised by ill-health/addiction/personal crisis. . . but not always.

TurquoiseLemur · 21/05/2021 13:22

@the80sweregreat

It feels a bit odd so far, lots of overacting.
Laura Fraser's wide-eyed faux innocent look began grating on me about two episodes in.

Julie Hesmondhalgh brilliant but then she always is.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 21/05/2021 15:36

I do find it credible that quite a few people had every reason to want the murdered man dead.

I've only read one Agatha Christie and that was Murder on the Orient Express, where the victim is universally hated and everyone has done it.

By the end of episode 2 the police didn't seem to have worked out how disliked he was which I found strange.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/05/2021 15:46

@SchadenfreudePersonified this is true

Trousers down / up was absolutely the first thing I noticed.

Also, Louie obviously likes to steal things - she stole a KitKat from the corner shop.

Blondes - I think you are getting the woman who had her purse stolen with the woman with the bite on her neck (the one the 4 rescued from drunk Jack in the car park) mixed up. They are not the same character. Perhaps someone else has mentioned this, haven't read the whole thread sorry!

eatsleepread · 23/05/2021 12:18

I'm on Episode 3. Enjoying it, but Arwel doesn't seem very bright. And Anna isn't the best actor.

eatsleepread · 23/05/2021 12:18

Also, the teenage son looks about 30 Grin
