Actor ‘drinking’ from a take out ‘cup of coffee’ which is SO obviously empty!! Even just carrying them, it’s clear that are full of fresh air!! No one in ‘real life’ can grab a coffee and take a gulp (as if it’s a shot) If so I’d be getting my money back for a near empty coffee 😆 It drives me around the bend and can totally distract me whilst watching great telly!! Top tip to actors/ directors....just fill it with water it will make a huge difference- well to me anyway 😂 Anyone else feel the same or have any other annoying distractions whilst watching TV/Films?

Just put something in a bag or suitcase, especially if they are meant to contain all your worldly goods.

Obviously can't risk the actor's back, but at least make them look vaguely realistic.

eatsleepread · 09/05/2021 14:08

Totally agree! The cups, brown takeaway bags etc, are obviously all light as a feather! I'm not even sure why they do this. Last I heard, water was quite an effective weight for cups Hmm

alloverthecarpetagain · 09/05/2021 14:33

I agree totally! And when they are supposedly dragging a huge suitcase behind them and it just bounces around as if it's a balloon, or slinging a huge bag across their back that Is clearly full of nothing. Also all those dramas where someone manages to drag or carry a dead body up stairs or into the boot of a car, into a freezer, etc. A dead weight like that is incredibly difficult to move.

ClubTropicanaVIP · 09/05/2021 15:19

Hah yes forgot about the ‘lightest luggage in the world’ on film and TV. Just so distracting!!

Annoys me when they’ve just paid for drinks in a pub and then flounce out leaving the drinks untouched. I'd be necking them before I left. You seen the price of a pint these days!

This really annoys me on Midsomer Murders. Of course an elderly lady can kill a full grown man, drag his body across woodland and string him up on a piece of sculpture! I know women can kill, but they usually choose methods which are feasible for their strength. By contrast, when my Dad had a fall we had to call an ambulance to pick him up as two adult women were not strong enough to heave him onto a sofa.

Totally agree with you OP. I've missed important lines in many a drama shouting at the telly that their cup is empty! Even when they place them on tables they sound empty. Infuriates me!

ThePontiacBandit · 09/05/2021 15:46

When they put non-rebreather oxygen masks on people but don’t fill the reservoir. If the bag isn’t filled with oxygen, it doesn’t work!

Does this irritate anyone else??!
Angel2702 · 09/05/2021 15:48

Yes really irritates me, far more than it should.

Blue filters really about me too and make videoing awful, I’m sure you can film something set in New York or other similar city without making everything so blue.

Tambora · 09/05/2021 15:48

Nobody ever has any trouble finding a parking space, do they? They rock up in their motor, and there's a space free in just the right place.

MelissaVonStressel · 09/05/2021 15:52

This is why in Unforgotten, Sunny's backpack was always filled with a random assortment of stuff, sometimes very heavy.

The pretend chewing of food gets me. It's the thing I used to go with my mothers awful cooking when I was about 8, I don't want to waste time now seeing grown adults chewing air and pretend swallowing.

HippyChickMama · 09/05/2021 15:53

As a hcp I can't watch any fictional medical dramas because I end up shouting at the TV, but the thing that annoys me the most? When someone walks into a pub and asks for 'a pint'. Of what?!

Wafflehouse · 09/05/2021 15:53

It is annoying, the way they carry them it’s really obvious. Any takeaway coffee I’ve bought has been held as carefully as a newborn as they’re usually scalding hot and overfilled. Back when I used to watch Eastenders Bonnie Langford was meant to be drinking coffee in her kitchen, I think she actually mentioned coffee, her mug was clearly full of water, that’s just laziness for someone not to pick that up and it totally distracted me from whatever was meant to be happening in the scene.

UhtredRagnarson · 09/05/2021 15:55

I love in shows when they have a plate of food in front of them and they can’t eat it because they do so many takes so they have to sit playing with the food with their fork, just poking it around the plate. Some good scenes in friends where chandler does this Grin

Tangledtresses · 09/05/2021 16:04

When drinks don't have ice in them

EastEnders is the worst for this they order a gin and they never have ice!

ZombeaArthur · 09/05/2021 16:06

It drives me crazy to see two characters in bed, one gets out wrapped in a pristine white sheet while the other remains in bed also covered in a pristine white sheet. Who sleeps with one person under the sheet while the other sleeps on top, wrapped in a separate sheet!

Hope this isn’t seen on Casualty!! 🙈

I really feel for them when it's fish and chips and they have to eat a stone cold chip and go 'yummm' or steal another person's chips and pretend to wolf them down. It's very difficult to fake enjoying to eat something disgusting.

I’m a huge Line of Duty fan but I was roaring with laughter at intrepid reporter who was asleep in the law module at journalism college Gail Vella’s pieces to camera “The chief constable has been cleared of all wrongdoing but I still think he’s dodgy” (because that wouldn’t get you fired at all) and the conversation between the police and the TV producer “can we have your unedited footage” “sure I’ll send it all over!” (never happens - police often ask, broadcasters say always say no)
