What was the excuse for the bad ending ? Covid ?

maxiflump1 · 02/05/2021 22:16

@CovidCorvid

"But who was H? Wasn’t Carmichael bent with her spelling definatly? So why is she still in charge?"

It was Buckells who spelt definitely wrong not Carmichael. Ted said he was going to go and tell Carmichael.

IcedPurple · 02/05/2021 22:16

@Bluntness100

I honestly was waiting for a twist as well. I kept thinking no way is it just buckells. Even his interview was shit. It was all no comment. No drama, no emotions and ted loosing his temper. It was just “did you do it” “ no comment” “alright then”.
Yes. Pale imitation of the really intense, twisty and turny interviews of series of yore. LoD has run its course.
User135644 · 02/05/2021 22:16

people have built this up way too much this season. Again though it looks like they'll be going down the rabbit whole for another season of who is the main man?

It's clearly set up for another season, that's not the ending of the series.

Artus · 02/05/2021 22:16

Anyone notice that when Bucknell was listing all the previous bent coppers, he ended with something like "and me a.... and Hastings jumped in with ACTING ALONE

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 02/05/2021 22:17

@Chrysanthemum5 - that was my take on in too. And it's exactly what has happened in some high profile inquiries. Maybe dramatically disappointing, but more realistic. I was glad Ted told Steve and Kate about his involvement and that he confessed to Carmichael.

poundoflard · 02/05/2021 22:17

@Cuntryhouse

Yes indeed there have been far better theories on MN , perhaps Jed needed to read a few and put on a better ending on for us.

Cheated , I tell you cheated!

OhWhyNot · 02/05/2021 22:17

Mmm I guess they had to wrap it up but was disappointing

So Jo gets away with deliberately messing up a police investigation, planting evidence so Farida is arrested and was willing to see Kate killed yet gets away with it that’s really pissed me off. And Kate still has a soft spot for her Hmm

And Buckles he was terrified in prison so we knew then he wasn’t so powerful

likeamillpond · 02/05/2021 22:17

@RolloTomassi

Remember when it was shocking - murder of Jackie Laverty, Steve nearly losing his fingers, Gemma Trot pushed out the window, all the incredible Lindsay Denton dramz, Dot's "exit required", Roz and her arm, Corbett getting his throat slit. The tension was next level.

This series had none of it. Pilkington, with all his backstory, didn't get a proper send-off, and really what was the point of Jo?? All the focus on Steph Corbett stuff when we already knew Hastings had given her the cash, and why. It's always going to be hard to meet expectations but this really missed for me. So disappointed!!

We're there different writers thus time?Confused It definitely lacked the shocks, twists and turns of previous finales.
TheSpottedZebra · 02/05/2021 22:18

Unless there's going to be a LoD v2 The New Generation , thatnwas certainly the end.

In LoD TNG, Pat will be the boss who we don't know if they're good or bad, Chloe and Lomax will be the new partners with Chloe doing all the excellent work and Lomax looking shifty (or is it just his face?). The linguistics expert will feature too.

Frazzled2207 · 02/05/2021 22:18

@CrumbsThatsQuick

How did Kate get into the back of Jo's transfer van without evil prison officer laydee in the front knowing about it?
This is what is bothering me the most!
SueSaid · 02/05/2021 22:18

'was hoping Buckells would go all psycho in the glass box after coming across as an incompetent fool.'

Yes that would've been convincing, as if the blithering idiot was a front and he was actually clever and devious.

Why did I think it was 90mins and if was all going to go horribly wrong as they were all back slapping?!

Newgirls · 02/05/2021 22:19

I like that Jo wasn’t bent. Made it different from other series when the guest is always bent.

Felt quite real without mass shoutouts and any deaths. Which is more the point I think? That corruption is sometimes a bit more subtle?!

lachy · 02/05/2021 22:19

Buckells was definitely smirking at the end...

Graffittiunderpass · 02/05/2021 22:19

@motherofgodhaudyerwheesht

well, sorry, but I thought that was excellent and credible. TBH (lol) some people clearly wouldnt have been satisfied even if the IP addresses tracked back to Buck House and The Vatican and Osborne detonated himself in front of the media cameras.My pulse was racing, I stopped breathing and was gripped. Any anticlimax at seeing Buckells in the chair was a sharp reminder 'you can never tell'.

Urgent Exit from this Thread Required to avoid coercion into negativity.

as you were fellas.

Completely agree. I can't understand what people expected.

It had to be someone we knew from way back and most of them were either dead or in witness protection.

Zampa · 02/05/2021 22:19

The whole point is that Buckells isn't H. There is no Kingpin. There are myriad corrupt officers including those who enabled Buckells as well as there being disparate OCGs.

Corruption will never be eliminated. If you cut the head off the monster, two heads grow in its place.

BentBastard · 02/05/2021 22:19

Some of the Mumsnet and Twitter theories were fun but totally nuts.

What we got was something much more credible which obviously seems disappointing to those with wilder theories but for me it was just right 🤷‍♀️

eternalopt · 02/05/2021 22:19

So We're supposed to believe that buckells is powerful enough to send encrypted messages from prison, arrange multi ocg raids of police stores, order murders and ambushes galore, but can't arrange his own escape and get himself out the country??

DragonMuff · 02/05/2021 22:19

Assuming there is another season, they’ll confirm Osborne is on top early on I hope and then the series will be about bringing him down. Maybe the three will form their own PI firm since I can’t see them being able to do the investigation as police officers

They’d need the help of someone on the inside, Chloe initially, and then when they’ve got enough, Carmichael will come good and take it forward?

Though my preference is Ted wins his appeal and stays on in some capacity...

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 02/05/2021 22:19

Well I feel like a bit Emma Thompson's character in Love Actually excitedly opening what she thinks is a gift wrapped diamond pendant from her husband only to find it's a blooming Joni Mitchell CD instead......

tedsletterofthelaw · 02/05/2021 22:19

@Dirtystreetpie

Even Den of Geek review says the finale had an extra 30 mins of screen time? Did they accidentally not show the extra 30 mins this evening? Is that why it was shit?
I think it was split across two episodes (last week and this week) so two hours rather than the usual 90 minutes.

I was also confused thinking there must be more. Until the cheesy lift scene, then I let in the disappointment I'd been suppressing for the past 30 minutes.

It was pretty shit on the whole. The acting between the trio when they find out who H us and then sit down for a chat about Ted's exploits was excruciating. The writing and acting is so much better than this usually. What were they thinking? Really?

EekThreek · 02/05/2021 22:19

As shit endings go, that wasn't as bad as Lost, but was probably worse than Game of Thrones.

I like how they've left it open for a series 7 while also leaving that empty realisation that this is likely how the police service works. Ignore the stuff they don't want to see, focus on laddering to boost their numbers.

felinelucky · 02/05/2021 22:19

@Thewiseoneincognito

There’s got to be a season 7 now
Yeah, surely. Only excuse for that limit episode would be to tee up another series. Mind you, I wasn't sorry to see all three of them come out of it alive. A proper heavyweight conclusion would probably needed at least one of them to go out in a blaze of heroics.
Natsel84 · 02/05/2021 22:19

I'm guessing series 7 will answer all the questions series 6 didnt answer.. ffs

Mary Joseph the wee donkey and every other fucker

WeeDonkey · 02/05/2021 22:19

@TheWeeDonkey

Mother of God that ending was written by the wee donkey.

I didn't have anything to do with it.

Me neither. But I enjoyed it, so don't mind being associated with it!
