Tales of Weatherfield continued...

OP posts:
UhtredRagnarson · 08/05/2021 10:26

It’s funny because Seb always came across (to me) as a really miserable character but suddenly he came to life when he started dating Nina. It was such a contrast to how he has always been before.

UhtredRagnarson · 08/05/2021 10:27

And they never gave him any friends. Why not? He always hung about with Eileen that Jan she was dating. Or else we just saw him with his flat mates but no mates of his own.

Roussette · 08/05/2021 10:27

Totally agree on the Oliver storyline.... I just wasnt engaged at all, and was missing bits because I was faffing on the laptop. It had no effect on me.

Yet this... last night I kept saying 'shhhh' to my DH.

PrincessScarlett · 08/05/2021 10:29

And that's what is so heartbreaking @UhtredRagnarson because just before the attack Seb was telling Nina how much he liked her and that being with her made everything feel lighter 😭

Yep. It all feels so wrong. But I guess if the actor wanted to leave it was going to end anyway.
PrincessScarlett · 08/05/2021 10:32

With Oliver's storyline, everyone is saying how unlikeable Leanne was but when she was quiet and emotional I found it very moving and sad. However, Steve on the other hand is just dreadful when he's given any big acting storylines. Unfortunately the combination of Steve and Leanne just ruined that story.

UhtredRagnarson · 08/05/2021 10:33

They could have given them a bit longer together though. Let them properly fall in love.

UhtredRagnarson · 08/05/2021 10:34

I think it was a very big ask (and horrible IMO) to have Steve do that storyline after not only losing his own child but having already done it with Michelle and Ruaidhri.

Thesearmsofmine · 08/05/2021 10:36

With Seb, he was always a nice boy, he never treated his girlfriends particularly badly(that I can remember?), we saw him trying to keep his family together by looking after the twins before they were removed and then he tried to adopt them. We know he had a tough upbringing and could have gone down the same route but he was still a good kid trying to do better.

I hope Abby doesn’t go off the rails, I hope the writers show her support system(Kevin, Sally, Debbie(who is now nice?), Tim and others on the street. I would hate to see her back on drugs.

I agree with the comparisons to the Oliver storyline, this story has shown up how badly that one was done.

eggandonion · 08/05/2021 10:42

Does anyone remember Damon Grant being stabbed on Brookside Sad
I hope they don't forget about this, the way they forgot about Robert Bistro, or Todd being scarred for life.
I was hoping for a lovely wedding, I never expected this.

SophieB100 · 08/05/2021 10:45

Yes, Damon Grant on Brookie. Stayed with me for ages, upset me terribly, his mum crying over his open coffin. Top actors, delivering carefully crafted scripts, makes a world of difference.

eggandonion · 08/05/2021 10:48

Brookie used to go a bit crazy at times, but some brilliant characters...we have a neighbour who is just like Harry Cross.
Seb was just becoming interesting, I hope the actor can get a few good roles after this.

MrsTrumpDuTurnip · 08/05/2021 10:52

Please don't let them make Nina pregnant, that would be too predicable seeing as they made a big thing about Seb staying over

Roussette · 08/05/2021 10:56

Yikes!

Agree, please don't make her pregnant. It would spoil what has the potential of being a powerful storyline.

Honeyroar · 08/05/2021 11:18

I think it would be more dramatic for Asha to be pregnant- then it’s harder for her to leave/do the right thing...

I know what he said in the interview, but I wonder whether he really did want to leave. I highly doubt they did all this because he was leaving.

Lemonelderflower · 08/05/2021 11:19

That would make Summer the only Corrie teen who hasn’t been pregnant!

eatsleepread · 08/05/2021 11:21

I'm hoping that Seb's voicemail to his mum won't mess up the investigation. The timing of it was all wrong. After all, why would you leave a voicemail to your mum when you're being pursued by thugs ...

PrincessScarlett · 08/05/2021 11:40

I think Nina suggested making a call because one of the general bits of advice if you are worried about being followed is to pretend to be on your phone or actually call someone.

eggandonion · 08/05/2021 11:49

Yes, I think that is advice when walking home. How sad, my mother's generation walked around in the blackout (I am old!)
Had he not been leaving, they could have brought in a new character I suppose?

eatsleepread · 08/05/2021 11:55

I get that, and hopefully that's how the police will see it.

Lemonelderflower · 08/05/2021 12:02

I don’t think this story is really about Nina and Seb being attacked for being ‘alternative’, though.

If Craig had tried to get Kelly to go home they’d have called him ginger or fat (once.) if it had been Amy, some other insult.

What’s happened to Michael and grace?

Honeyroar · 08/05/2021 12:10

I think it was more about Corey hating Nina for taking Asha off him previously- the alternative appearance just helped him rev the others up to join in.

Spidey66 · 08/05/2021 13:02

I doubt Nina is pregnant. Id think she's pretty savvy about contraception especially as she was well aware of Seb's HIV status.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 08/05/2021 13:25

Agree that Corrie did well and I'm so pleased that his death was a surprise. I hate finding out beforehand as it just doesn't have an impact. Hopefully Abi will get the support she needs, she's worked so hard to turn things around.

Unlike others here, I didn't really care about Aiden so his suicide didn't bother me. I felt for Johnny but that's about it

UhtredRagnarson · 08/05/2021 14:54

I agree it was probably more jealousy from Corey, he was chomping at the bit to have a go at her, but the name calling from Eli was based on Nina’s appearance. He was saying her piercings are skanky, she was a freak and a weirdo. From that perspective the attack was based on her alternative look. Just like if someone uses homophobic language when attacking a gay person it is recorded as a homophobic attack- or if they use racist language when attacking someone it’s called a racially aggravated assault. Even if the same attacker would have attacked the next person who passed them for a different reason. The language used in the attack is relevant to how it’s prosecuted.
