I just don't want to see Corey in prison... meaning please get him, send him off to prison but not that naff pretend prison where half of Corrie have been. BTW is Johnny still there ? Faye's in there.

God there will be enough for a spin off series soon! Heaven help us!

Clawdy · 08/05/2021 08:26

Such a good episode. The only unlikely bit for me was when Asha just walked into Nina's hospital room.

A northern hemisphere version of Prisoner Cell Block H !

I accidentally saw that Seb had died before I watched the episode (checked Facebook without thinking) Sad I really hadn’t expected it. Sally Carman was excellent. I always thought she was good; you could tell early on she’d be good in the part, because even when Abi was still very unlikeable, it was all well done.

It’s a terrible shame it ended like this for Nina and Seb as they did work well together, but as others have said, the story has been planned since Nina arrived; Seb may not have been the planned victim all along. If the actor wanted to go, it would defeat the object to pull such a long-planned story to keep them together, as he could easily have quit in six months anyway.

I don’t share others’ worries about it being ‘dragged out’. We need plots we can invest in longer-term.

I was also reading that Sophie Lancaster's mum has been involved with Corrie for 18 months and helped with the Nina character from the start to make sure it was a worthy and true likeness to Sophie's tragic story.

That kind of suggests the original plan was for Nina to die but then they changed it for some reason. Her relationship with Seb was very recent so I’m guessing that was to create the situation so that it was Seb that would die instead.

MrsTrumpDuTurnip · 08/05/2021 08:57

Agree @StillCoughingandLaughing and they need to show the raw pain these pointless attacks have and the wider ripple effects . I hope they don’t rush it , it needs to be realistic for it to have an impact

Yes, that’s what I was thinking too. In some ways it works better, because it stops it purely being a dramatisation of Sophie Lancaster’s story. It can do justice to her and her boyfriend without being a retelling; it can be a Corrie story in its own right too.

I know Corey’s two mates aren’t regular characters but I wonder if it’s relevant that we haven’t seen any contact between them and Corey since the attack. He told Kelly to wash her clothes and not to call him but if he didn’t tell the other two then maybe their clothes/shoes will have blood etc on them and once the police get them in custody they will tell Corey’s and Kelly’s name.

Also- as well done as this story was, I’m really fed up with all the death on Corrie recently. Seb, Oliver, Geoff all in the last few months. Please no more this year.

That’s a very good point!

Roussette · 08/05/2021 09:10

And wasn't one of the other characters seeing Summer or something. Or did I get that wrong...
Didn't the one with the sweepy fringe encourage her to get in the car?

UhtredRagnarson · 08/05/2021 09:13

One of the boys, Eli, was trying to get summers attention in speed Dahl the other night But I don’t think she was very receptive to it. I’m hoping she goes straight to daddy Billy and tells him the craic.

SophieB100 · 08/05/2021 09:15

I don't know if he was seeing Summer, but there was an earlier episode this week when the sweepy fringe lad was flirting with Summer when they all went to Speed Dahl (when Corey wanted a night out with his mates without Asha) - Summer sat there in her big cardi away from him, Corey and Kelly. Then the night of the attack, he was encouraging Summer to get in the car. But not sure that it went further than that.

Roussette · 08/05/2021 09:17

Thanks all, wasn't sure if I'd missed something. He was pretty bad with all the goading of Nina too. Although Corey was like the ringleader of them all.

eatsleepread · 08/05/2021 09:21

It's really hard when the characters involved in a plot are so bloody likeable! The Oliver storyline didn't work so well, as Leanne was detestable.

Flissitytricity · 08/05/2021 09:26

@Templetreeee

Yes I know this but in all my years of watching the soap I don't think anything has jolted me as much as last night's shocker. All the train crashes and fires, evil baddies and their victims who have passed through the cobbles, none have moved me more than poor little innocent Seb being murdered like this.
It just came out of the blue! No lingering days of him being on life support, just hit the viewers with a hammer! It worked.

Templetreeee · 08/05/2021 09:28

It is and was really hard to watch and shocking. But thats the point. Months of build up was subtle . It came out of nowhere and I think Corrie handled it really well. Poor Abi Sad
Templetreeee · 08/05/2021 09:30

I felt a bit annoyed about how they portrayed Leanne.
She was absolutely desperate but they made her out to be such a nasty person and then the whole Simon storyline.
In reality Leanne would be totally overcome with grief and barely able to function but then she was running drugs etc
Rubbish Hmm

UhtredRagnarson · 08/05/2021 09:44

Ok so I’ve rewatched the relevant scenes.

At the canal there was Corey, Kelly, Eli and then 3 other unnamed boys. Eli was the one saying nina’s piercings were skanky and told Kelly to smack her. He was the real instigator there. Corey was there and laughing but didn’t say anything until Nina and Seb left when he said they weren’t letting them get away.

Next scene was Nina and Seb walking past a big bin and Corey, Eli, one other boy and Kelly appear from behind it. Corey starts shouting after Nina and Seb. Calling them freaks, Kelly laughing, Eli joins with name calling. Seb phones his mum and while he is talking he is pushed from behind, Kelly laughs and Nina shouts “Seb” that’s the only name that was said but Kelly’s laughter may have been heard. The name calling was before he made the call. When Nina runs off two people follow her, I’m not sure who the two are but I think one was Kelly as it looked like girls leggings and shoes. so presumably two stay and attack Seb but it doesn’t show anything of them, just shows Seb moving with the impact.

Certainly a case of joint enterprise (if that’s what’s it’s called) if we consider the behaviour from the canal when Eli started the bullying, Kelly assaulted Nina and then Corey was the one who decided to go after them. Hope all 3 are convicted. And whoever the 4th boy was.

UhtredRagnarson · 08/05/2021 09:45

Also- I wonder if imran will be Kelly’s solicitor? Will he be allowed to be? Or will he do the right thing and wash his hands of her?

Roussette · 08/05/2021 09:47

Yes I thought I saw Kelly running after Nina, it must've been if both you and I got that impression. I think I mentioned up thread I saw her shoes/trainers.

UhtredRagnarson · 08/05/2021 09:50

Yes it must have been Kelly then.

Ashleys63 · 08/05/2021 09:52

The tragic murder of Seb will hit most of us harder as we probably have ( or had, or will have ) teenage children ourselves, so we know senseless attacks like this could happen to any of us. They're sadly not uncommon. They don't always end in murder thankfully but cases of teenagers getting beaten up just because they look different or looked at someone the wrong way aren't that uncommon.
Planes falling from the sky or other really dramatic catastrophes are so rare we just can't relate.

Plus I agree about the Oliver / Leanne storyline being not that moving. On paper it should have been a real 'tug at the heart strings' 'crying buckets' storyline, but weirdly I felt nothing. I can only assume it was because leanne was just so horrible to everyone, I had no sympathy for her.

Inspirationpending · 08/05/2021 10:04

Just caught up. Even though I’d sadly seen that Seb died I was still blown away by the emotional impact.
Sally Carman was just amazing.

Hope Corrie do justice to the aftermath.
Best storyline in ages

PrincessScarlett · 08/05/2021 10:15

Although I'm devastated Seb has died ( and worry for Abbie) I'm so pleased that Roy hasn't lost Nina. The two of them together are just wonderful.

SophieB100 · 08/05/2021 10:19

The fact that Seb didn't linger in a coma on life support for ages brings home the total shock factor of the attack - one day - giving mum her lovely necklace - next day gone. Shows how real life can turn on a sixpence.

Also highlights the total senseless act of those who killed him.

I too hope the aftermath is dealt with sensitively, judging by what we've seen so far, I have high hopes it will be.

Agree about the Oliver storyline - what should have been poignant and heart breaking was a relief for us viewers - because of the constant screeching, shouting and bullying by Leanne. It ruined and deflected the main story.
