Tales of Weatherfield continued...

OP posts:

The acting was much much better than the Oliver storyline. Which was absolutely dire a lot of the time.

Excitedforxmas · 07/05/2021 23:53

Sobbing tonight- so well acted out

lollipoprainbow · 07/05/2021 23:54

We had a local case recently of a father battered by a gang of thugs when he went to rescue his autistic son from the park, he's still fighting for his life. Terrible.

Redglitter · 08/05/2021 00:16

Bloody hell I didn't expect that. That was heartbreaking. Top marks though for the story/Sebs leaving not being leaked. Made it so much more powerful

Isn't Abi gorgeous dressed up & out her overalls

Flissitytricity · 08/05/2021 00:44

I suspected either Seb or Nina would die but not yet! Massive shocker and a big mistake by the writers to do this. I also thought the actor might have wanted to leave the show so why not just write him out with some plausible storyline, maybe he decided to go and live in Australia to be near his sister and brother because he fought for custody of them not too long ago!
That way Seb could return at some point in the future which many of the actors have done. No, Corrie writers went too far by killing him off so quickly. Not fair at all.

Far too many high and unrealistic dramas in one small street. Overkill in the extreme.

OldGreyBoots · 08/05/2021 02:58

Incredible episodes tonight, I think if Seb had a different outcome it would have undermined the tragedy of the real case, and the thousands like it. I'm still gutted though, and blown away by how secret everything was kept. Roy as ever my favourite character, some stunning acting there.

eatsleepread · 08/05/2021 04:00

Stunning. Those huge eyes ...

PrincessScarlett · 08/05/2021 07:22

The actor who plays Seb tweeted last night something along the lines of never wanting to stay in Corrie too long so guess it was mutual to leave and he wants to try new things.

I was also reading that Sophie Lancaster's mum has been involved with Corrie for 18 months and helped with the Nina character from the start to make sure it was a worthy and true likeness to Sophie's tragic story.

FlowerOfTheValley · 08/05/2021 07:25

Powerful storyline and well acted. I didn’t expect Seb to die and I think it’s a great shame they have killed off his character. He and Nina were very believable together. I hope it doesn’t send Abby off the rails.

They could have still done a powerful prejudice storyline if Nina had gone for a walk with Sean or Alina when you could have had double impact from an attack on someone for looking different and a homophobic or racial attack.

A recovering Nina could then have got together with Seb. Having said that killing off a cared for character who had also found recent happiness does have more impact.

Roy was brilliant all week as ever. Understated often has more impact than screeching which the writers often don’t realise.

FlowerOfTheValley · 08/05/2021 07:28

I did read that the writers had planned this storyline from when Nina first appeared on Corrie and her look was deliberate with a view to this storyline which I thought was interesting.

Because It was based around a true story. Shocking yes but this actually happened. Very tragic and so well acted. Poor Sophie and her family Sad
Roussette · 08/05/2021 07:38

I hate that these kind of attacks happen and there are so many nasty young men out there
Yes, and sadly young women too.

I have the hate on nasty Kelly at the moment.

There are so many clues there that hopefully it won't be going on for a long time. The ansaphone to Abi, the lying by Corey being with Asha when she was with Amy and police can triangulate their phones so it will be obvious Corey was there and not sat at home. I did think the Police would be more of a presence at the hospital given the severity of the attacks and the touch and go??

Stupid Asha... she's obviously wringing herself inside out and not facing the truth. What in god's name does she see in Corey? She is a studious girl who wants to do well, whilst he just pretends he's going to be a footballer and does PS all day.

Roussette · 08/05/2021 07:40

It sounds like Seb as an actor wanted out and not going back to Corrie so I suppose it gives the writers the chance to do this.

It must be a powerful storyline because I thought about it in the night and that does not happen with Corrie and me!

PrincessScarlett · 08/05/2021 07:41

If it follows the Sophie Lancaster case the 5 boys were arrested within a few days so fingers crossed they don't drag it out for months.

SophieB100 · 08/05/2021 07:48

Asha realising the trainers were in the wash will be key to this I think, as well as the phone message on Abi's phone.

This storyline is hard hitting because it happens. I work in a high school, we've had students both as victims and attackers, it's raw and shocking and leaves you reeling. Nothing as bad as this - but even so, brutal.

Well done Corrie, on the way this has been handled. And yes, the actors involved are of a higher calibre than those involved in Oliver's story.

RubyFowler · 08/05/2021 07:54

@FlowerOfTheValley

Yeah Sophie mum and someone else (i think a corrie writer) were interviewed on BBC breakfast the other day, and the same was said.
Roussette · 08/05/2021 07:56

And even sticking the trainers in the wash won't remove all traces of blood I don't think
(I watch too many forensics crime dramas!)
And then there's footprints... they will be all over everywhere in that tunnel. And they can be matched to shoes whereby there is no doubt
They can pick up so much from crime scenes

SophieB100 · 08/05/2021 08:08

Agree @Roussette
There's a trainer print on poor Nina - police will be able to match that, as well as from the scene of the attack.
You and me need to get down there, in our white suits and solve this! We'll have the perps banged to rights by lunchtime Wink

AC12theletterofthelaw · 08/05/2021 08:11

Do you think Kelly was involved in the beating of Nina and Seb as in physically or watched or recorded it?

MrsTrumpDuTurnip · 08/05/2021 08:15

Anna went to get Seb I think, wasn't he seeing Faye originally?
I think Corrie have played it well. If just one parent has a conversation with their child about this it's served a purpose
This is what coronation Street does well, things that can effect us all in everyday life
The writing and actors were outstanding. I can't imagine anyone was left unmoved by the unfairness and injustice of it all
Abbi silently sobbing finished me off

SophieB100 · 08/05/2021 08:17

@AC12theletterofthelaw
I don't know, but I'd bet my house that the piece of scum that is Corey will be hell bent on getting Kelly to carry the can for it, whether she is to blame or not.

Ashleys63 · 08/05/2021 08:23

So so sad.
But I must say the actor playing Corey is very good and very believable, I actually hate him.

RubyFowler · 08/05/2021 08:23

I think the trainer print will be key to it. Bet its from Corey's shoe.

I should have guessed when they made so much about how happy Abby was on her hen night, how everything was perfect now in her life that it wouldn't last long.

Roussette · 08/05/2021 08:23

SophieB100 I'm there!

AC12 Did she record it, do we know that? If so, the whole lot of them are banged to rights. Even deleted footage can be recovered (I think)

I just don't want to see Corey in prison... meaning please get him, send him off to prison but not that naff pretend prison where half of Corrie have been. BTW is Johnny still there ? Faye's in there.

I'm just hoping Abi doesnt fall of the wagon

RubyFowler · 08/05/2021 08:24

@Ashleys63

Agree, a lot of good young actors at the moment. The lad playing Simons drug dealer mate was also good, very intimidating.
