Anyone else watch this?

Presenter Katherine Ryan was UNBELIEVABLY irritating.

I agree, and it just goes to show how important it is to get the presenting team right for a show like this. (Compare it with Sewing Bee, for example). I find it a bit tense and awkward to watch, which is spoiling it for me.
It will need a re-boot IMO if they’re going to bring it back.

@IWantToBeNynaeve

I'm trying so hard to like this show but not really succeeding. It's not the contestants fault, they all seem lovely, but Katherine Ryan is dreadful. She misses the mark so often with her 'jokes ' and doesn't pull the show together like a good host should. Shaun and Solange are just not right for tv, they come across as very dour and flat. It's a shame because it's a great premise for a show but it's not working in its current format.
I agree. All the dreadful drag jokes were cringe making last night. Sack the presenters and revamp it all.

There are so many competition type series that are literally a template programme shoe horning in a different craft. As someone said previously maybe in masterchef there should be time pressure if their ambition is to work in a restaurant kitchen but actually it would sometimes be good to see things made in their natural time frame.
Making a bespoke piece of jewellery that someone is going to spend hundreds or thousands of pounds on is not the type of thing that should be rushed.
Instead of everything being a time pressured challenge or competition, I think maybe they could do "a day in the life" of say, a patissiere chef, a potter, a make up artist, a glass blower, a jeweller etc

We made some jewellery this week, I made a bangle and my husband made a ring, it was really interesting, fun and hard work, the people teaching us were also incredibly patient 😂

If anyone is near the below I would definitely recommend, it also highlights just how stupid the time limits are on the show.

I think KR is doing a pretty good job given what a dry situation she is in. The judges are humourless, and the craft itself doesn't lend itself to TV.

Sewing, baking, pottery, glassblowing - the objects are all big enough that you can see what's going on. Jewellery is so small and fiddly it's not easy to follow what they are doing, and you feel their tension when they are doing something intricate and KR and the camera zooms in on them.

It all feels massively awkward - you can almost feel the dull atmosphere in there.

Gold week this week

Thesearmsofmine · 04/05/2021 20:06

So pleased to have found this thread!
Why is Solange so dour?

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 04/05/2021 20:11

Bloody hell: Solange not only smiled, she laughed!

Chrysanthemum5 · 04/05/2021 20:15

Is Solange warming up a bit?

SimonJT · 04/05/2021 20:26

Hugo is very good isn’t he

tadpole39 · 04/05/2021 20:31

I read a review that said she always looks like she’s giving bad news to orphans which made me laugh! Think the other one is coming into his own tho .

Ellmau · 04/05/2021 21:39

I loved Hugo's locket, so pretty.

I thought it was better this week. Solange has definitely warmed up a bit and I thought Shaun was explaining things well. Hugo is very talented and I liked both his pieces. The bespoke story was lovely tonight.

I agree , it was definitely a bit better this week, both judges seemed more lively and warmer. I loved Hugo's locket, I would have chosen that one, but Sonny's was gorgeous too. It was fairly obvious who would go tonight, it was the right choice.
HollowTalk · 04/05/2021 23:22

@bruffin

Slightly off topic , ive bought a raku pot from Peter on GPTD, im thrilled with it
Just found his website and he's sold out of virtually everything!
funtimefrank · 05/05/2021 07:31

Surely Hugo for the win? He's got the best skills and pushes the design every time.

Dds (who love a middle age reality competition) struggle to engage with this like the others. Sewing bee has them full of opinion and GPT has them in silence whereas this has them talking about Lego.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 05/05/2021 13:09

Either Hugo or Dan will win. I suspect Tamara will go next week.

Horehound · 05/05/2021 13:16

Can someone link to peters page?

bruffin · 05/05/2021 15:35

Google woburnsands pottery.

Ellmau · 05/05/2021 19:05

I think Sonny's got a shot too.

Agree Tamara must go next.

The judges were definitely a bit warmer this week. I’m enjoying it and like Katherine Ryan. Was looking up Hugo and he works for the jeweller fella who was on The Repair Shop, the one who looks a bit like Steve Backshall, not Brenton the silversmith 😉.

This is what is bugging me about this show (I don't mind Katherine Ryan). On what planet would you need to design and make an intricate piece of jewellery in 4 hours?! It's not showcasing the jewellers talent, it's just showing how fast they can churn something out. Most of the little 'faults' that they picked up on this week would've been ironed out (or may not even have happened at all) if they were doing it properly within a longer timeframe.

I don't think this format works with this particular craft. No jeweller I've ever come across works or advertises on the premise of how speedily they can get a bespoke price of jewellery made.

Warmer? Solange looks like she’s chewing a wasp, Katherine’s drawl is like nails on a blackboard to me and as for Shaun - strikes me he is there to make up the numbers!
YanTanTethera123 · 06/05/2021 12:32

I actually feel sorry for the jewellers, it’s not a good way of demonstrating their skills at all.

mermaidsariel · 06/05/2021 22:44

I find Solange quite scary. When she smiles it is very unsettling. She seems really dark and humourless. I don’t like any of the presenters and agree that the time restraints are just ludicrous. They need to change the format
And the presenters.
