Ok, I've started a new one in anticipation of Thread 3 filling up tonight, part way through the episode!

@Fridget - the thing I don’t understand about the whole surveillance mix-up thing was why it seems to have stopped them doing any surveillance at all - couldn’t they at least have kept a watch over people entering/exiting the building?

(I know the answer to that it is probably just that it makes sense for the plot, but it is annoying me!)

I watched last nights but got lost at some bits.

What happened in the aftermath of the shootings/van crashing, Steve shot the person in the window but we don’t know if they died or who it was? Would ambulances turning up not go and deal with them as well? Also thought the van turning was going to land him back in hospital and cripple him further but he is back at the office later on.

There was a spurt of red from their head. Definitely deaded!

Whatever happens I'm certain that it's not all going to be neatly wrapped up this season as there is going to be a series 7

Is there going to be a season 7 confirmed? I got the impression by what Ted Hastings said about it may not be solved in weeks months or never as being an ending where nothing resolved. Which also leads me to thinking a whole new cast for season 7 that may not be filmed till pandemic completely over because our trip are all going to be killed off by final episode,. Kate killed by Jo, Steve suicide when he is relieved and f duty because of drug problem and Hastings killed by IRA.

Blimey this thread moves fast, finally managed to catch up! My first thought was Jo was related to Jackie Laverty because of the importance of series 1. I didn’t hear Steve say ‘he’ though.
I do think it’s likely to be someone from s1 because of all the call backs but not a cop because otherwise there would be 2 matches from the police database.
So back to Tommy Hunter, but I thought Steve said if they ran DNA checks when Jo joined it would have shown up and I think someone said he wasn’t arrested before s1.
What about ex cops e.g. Dot, Nige, Danny?

Just thinking as well, Steve's drugs test going to Occy health rather than disciplinary is a positive thing for him isn't it? I know he doesn't want OH involvement as they'll prob put him on desk duty or whatever but at least it looks like it hasn't triggered suspension or anything

That’s a really good point - keep doing what they’re doing while they “upgrade” the authorisation.

Because I’m a loser I’ve just looked up the government guidelines on this! I haven’t read all 92 pages but it seems that something is “intrusive” if it relates to anything going on at residential premises. So it may well be that in order to watch the flat at all they needed intrusive, and directed was no good to them so although they could continue doing it, they couldn’t watch the flat. You would have thought they could watch the surrounding streets or something at least though wouldn’t you?

Why didn't Kate tell Jo she followed the car as she coincidently saw it going in the wrong direction to the safe house? It just creates unnecessary suspicion on Kate. Dot's lookalike knew anyway as she phoned him to check.

I assume it's because the trial would collapse if the police broke the rules and everything they learned "illegally" would be inadmissible in court plus you'd risk AC12 coming after you

I agree that I don't see why they couldn't have continued that while waiting for the updated permission

Also I'm now thinking that the lad Jake is Jo's son.

Yes - everyone gets sent to Blackthorn! Including poor Buckells, who's only on remand (but gets a kettle, evidently..).

Regarding the List - there's a Denmoor on it - the bloke Ted shot was also called Denmoor wasn't he (apologies if anyone has already picked this up).

I think he only got the kettle so they could show how much his hand was shaking, and how scared he was.

It is weird. I said to DH, why wouldn’t they just continue the direct surveillance while waited for the right authority? I don’t know if that’s typical or another sign of those ubiquitous bent coppers...

@Fridget also being a loser I’ve just looked up the same guidance and the definition of residential premises excludes common areas and external areas readily visible to the public. So I can’t see any reason why they couldn’t have continued to watch the outside of the flats for comings and goings as they still had directed surveillance authorisation.

As I say I think it’s really just convenient for the plot to create a plausible-sounding situation that would allow Terry and Carl to be switched. Chalk it up to artistic license!

Ted has never seen him. Unlikely to say 'Mother Of God' at seeing his photo. he would say 'who's that wee fella?'

It really had to be someone he instantly recognises (and fears).

I'm not through all the comments yet (should take Mondays off work). But! Why wasn't Lakewell transported somewhat more subtly, like they used to use dodgy builder's vans and the like in Spooks? I mean, could they have attracted any more attention to themselves?!
