Ok, I've started a new one in anticipation of Thread 3 filling up tonight, part way through the episode!

I thought he'd been stitched up but he clearly knows something if he had to be warned to be silent.

When they showed him using the kettle I thought he might be secret OCG plant and pour hot water on Lakewell like they did with Lindsay

FreezerBird · 12/04/2021 17:01

Buckles is the very definition of a useful idiot.

Why was he in prison gear though? I thought remand prisoners got to wear their own clothes. (I know that's not a big deal but it annoyed me).

Piggywaspushed · 12/04/2021 17:02

Listening to the BBC podcast. Expected Dot to sound like Dot and he doesn't sound like Dot. He sounds - surprisingly enough- like, I presume Craig Parkinson.

I have seen Craig P in another thing and I swear he sounded like Dot. (Great Night Out anyone!?)

PrincessScarlett · 12/04/2021 17:07

I don't think Buckells is OCG dodgy before he went to prison, I think he was set up, but now he is in prison the OCG have got to him and are going to make use of him. I'm not convinced he actually knows anything but he's shit scared of being attacked/killed so will do as he's told. Maybe the OCG will force him to confess even though he's innocent so he takes the wrap and the real culprit can continue. Steve will know something is not right though because he was so clueless in his initial interview.

WhoWants2Know · 12/04/2021 17:08

After watching Buckells interview, I couldn't understand why Ted charged him straight away. Like Steve said, he couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

He was definitely incompetent and needed removing from the job, but why did Ted go the extra mile and charge him, getting Andrea Wise riled up enough to fire him?

CHISistoast · 12/04/2021 17:11

@OliveHenry

Best shot I could get!
It is Jo, it's the same photo from her HR page on line of duty wiki. Which is obvs real life Wink
Giggorata · 12/04/2021 17:13

A cut out and dress Steve with a selection of waistcoats, a stab vest and helmet, a packet of pills, etc.

Plus a stick-on beard

Best thing I've read today. 😁

MayIDestroyYou · 12/04/2021 17:16

808 posts and not one of you can tell me, definitively, who Jo is related to?

Tsk!

ClarasZoo · 12/04/2021 17:20

Yes- Osborne!

Bluntness100 · 12/04/2021 17:22

Wasn’t Carl Pilkington the Idiot Abroad

😂😂😂

ClarasZoo · 12/04/2021 17:22

Also I think Chloe is a wrong un- because of this misdirection of seeing her cry...

ChocBeforeCock · 12/04/2021 17:23

@Bluntness100

Oh and the reason kate warned jo about Carl. Is because they wanted to see what she would do. Carl is dispensable, they have enough on him, he’s not the big fish. They want to see what jo would do, and they wanted it to look like Kate was on her side,

Jo fell into the trap and kept Carl ultimately. Even threatened Kate to make her drop it. So Kate now knows jo is corrupt.

Assuming this is about Ryan, I think it’s a really good shout
Bluntness100 · 12/04/2021 17:31

God almighty I’ve no idea why I keep calling Ryan Carl..😂

It strikes me all the time just what an unrewarding thing being involved with the OGC seems to be. Almost no one is actually getting any benefits from it.

I really like the idea that it's all coming right back to that first episode of series 1. The police certainly were seen to be racist and incompetent in the Karim Ali case, and the killings of the dealers after surveillance was lifted - all conveniently shunted off into counter-terrorism and hidden.

Bloodypunkrockers · 12/04/2021 17:39

I thought I was on top of everything but I can't get my head round the surveillance mix up

Can anyone explain that. I've watched last nights three times

puginamug · 12/04/2021 17:47

@Cocacola12 I didn't mean they were neighbours - but that is where the actresses are from. So it's not unfeasible for a family to move from that area to Scotland.

I'm from the North so I certainly know it's not all one homogenous mass.

From what I can gather, there are two types of surveillance which have been discussed. Firstly directed surveillance, and secondly intrusive surveillance. As they wanted to take images from inside residential premises, they needed authorisation for intrusive surveillance.

However initially, the authorisation given was only for directed surveillance. This does not give them the right to take images of something happening on residential premises. There was therefore a delay while the correct authorisation was obtained. Once the mistake was discovered, they had no right to be observing what was going on inside the flat and had to stop surveilling entirely in the interim.

I’m not sure if we know who was actually to blame for this, certainly Jo suggested it was Buckells, but I think he said in his interview it was nothing to do with him.

This suspicion is that the wrong surveillance being authorised wasn’t a mixup, that somebody deliberately authorised directed surveillance knowing it wasn’t enough, so that when the “error” was discovered there would have to be a period of time when the flat was not under surveillance at all, and they could swap carl banks and Terry.

granniesbonnet · 12/04/2021 17:52

I never have a clue what’s going on but love it!

puginamug · 12/04/2021 17:56

@Fridget @Bloodypunkrockers

In the very first scene of episode one, Jo asks Buckles to approve Direct Surveillance. If he'd been on the ball he would have known that was the wrong one but he's a lazy arse so just did as Jo asked.

I went back and checked.

Yep, I mentioned this on the last thread - she clearly says approval is needed for direct surveillance.

But someone must have known the surveillance was withdrawn so Ryan / whoever could break in and get Banks.

sunnydaleslayer · 12/04/2021 18:07

@RedGoldAndGreene

Does anybody know if there is a police division that investigates OCGs specifically? Or do they break it down into vice, murder etc ?
The National Crime Agency do a lot of that.

Inconclusive. Just watched that scene - it’s impossible to tell it’s Buckells, and Gates doesn’t notice him / recognise him and even if it is, Buckells isn’t one of the men playing with Tommy Hunter. We know he plays golf though so him being there, if it is him, doesn’t mean much
CheekyWeeShite · 12/04/2021 18:10

Serious and Organised Crime are the team dealing with OCGs in this show (which Corbett was on).

fratellia · 12/04/2021 18:12

I watched last nights but got lost at some bits.

What happened in the aftermath of the shootings/van crashing, Steve shot the person in the window but we don’t know if they died or who it was? Would ambulances turning up not go and deal with them as well? Also thought the van turning was going to land him back in hospital and cripple him further but he is back at the office later on.

Thank you! And thank you @CheekyWeeShite. I haven’t rewatched! Again looking like incompetence from Buckells not corruption.
