Ok, I've started a new one in anticipation of Thread 3 filling up tonight, part way through the episode!

Ah, posted that before seeing the newspaper report link.

So I guess we know who’ll be heading up the new downsized anti-corruption operation. What a shocker (not really).

Do we? Who?

Definitely a spoiler and I would be annoyed with you if someone hadn’t already spoiled it a few pages ago 😬

@UCOinanOCG

Can someone remind me - did they find this match purely when running Jo's DNA through the database or were there other DNA samples found in Farida's house?

They ran the DNA found in Farida’s house through the police and criminal databases. They found a partial familial match to a criminal from the DNA they found, and a full match to Jo from the same sample.

@MysteriousAffairAtStyles

If it’s Ted then the script for that last scene is utter bollocks and I for one will be very cross.

Agreed. If they go for a ludicrous ‘shock’ match I’ll be very disappointed. I think (or at least I ardently hope) that JM is better than that.

There’s no way that Chloe would get the results, see the link to Ted and say “I don’t really get it”. She’d be like “Steve, I’ve found some crazy shit here” (paraphrasing)

@BloodyInternetFood

Yes, think there's something I Chole's puzzlement at the results and Steve's equally confused reaction on seeing it.

It's either someone very well known in am OCG or a known and convicted bent copper. Or it's someone connected with their current case.

It can’t be a bent copper. Unless say Patrick Fairbanks DNA was never taken as a police officer because by the time they collected these samples from officers he didn’t go to crime scenes, and / or he refused and no one challenged him as a senior officer.

What wouldn’t make sense is his this would serve the plot, or enable Jo’s blackmail.

You've misinterpreted what I've posted relating to the spoiler. I'm extrapolating that the spoiler comes about because of the theory the DNA match for Jo is Ted.

Yeah, I’m not following this at all. Ted is a serving officer and his DNA samples would be logged as such, so why would he be the ‘nominal’ match? Confused

@AwkwardArnottDentonFumble

So many outlandish theories on here!

Indeed, that’s half the fun :o

Although it does sometimes make the actual episodes a bit anticlimactic as whatever does happen has usually been suggested already 😂

I'm not keen on outlandish. I just wonder why people are making such a weird stretch, personally!

@HopeMumsnet

Hello LoD fans,
Please could we ask you not to comment on things that haven't happened or characters/actors that haven't appeared in the show? They're what's known in the business as spoilers and no one, not even the MNHQ mods, likes reading 'em.
We're interested in one thing, and one thing only, and that's bent coppers. And grammar. Okay, and parking spaces.
Cheers, all.

This is my favourite MNHQ comment ever!

Someone earlier suggested the match could be to Kate's son if he were adopted. Bit of a stretch but I like that theory!

@Fullofthejoysofspring

But how could it be Ted? He's 56 and she's 45. We'd have to go back to Ted's parents to see a family link and that just feels like we're going too far back in time?

Don't assume the male DNA is that of Jo's father. Could be another relative.

@MysteriousAffairAtStyles

I am thinking exactly the same. Would also explain the thing now removed by MNHQ as a spoiler.

No, the ‘spoiler’ was nothing to do with who Jo is a partial match for, as no one knows yet. It’s all just guesswork.

Right. Hear me out, I have a theory: somehow the OCG know Ted is related to Jo or they have somehow put someone else's DNA on his record - they've messed with DNA samples before - and they're using Jo to bring down Ted. Jo is being blackmailed over a female relative, the one in the photo and is unaware of the link to Ted having being brought up by a single mother or in the care system. It's possible Jo has been offered information which could reunite her with her mother or something similar in return for doing a couple of jobs for the OCG.

If all the DNA is re-examined, we could involve exhumations, etc if doubt is cast on the veracity of the samples on record, we could find Jo is actually related to someone in the OCG instead.

@peridito

This may have been mentioned but I thought that Steve and Chloe looked a little fearful( or embarrassed ?) to be revealing the DNA match to Ted . Sort of "sorry sir ,it's ...someone close to you "

I even thought it was going to be him . He'd be a nominal wouldn't he from his earlier arrest ?

This was my instinctive reaction, too - that it must be Ted himself. They did look embarrassed, and as if the information was specifically pertinent to The Gaffer.

Otherwise, I'd be almost satisfied with it being Terry Boyle or the boy robber in custody - but I can see the age thing might make that unlikely.
