New thread... really hope the title doesn’t offend anyone! I actually really admire how sensitively the story was handled!

Anyway... Corrie in 1998.

Baby Ty looked so cute. Why did I think he was related to Vera and jack? Yet he’s on street like he knows no one? What happened to Les to end up in hopsital I think
I missed one.

They do keep stories lines going for months don’t they. Been weeks and weeks so months for them. We have murders over in less time.

x2boys · 02/08/2021 19:54

Yes totally, she did come across as very polished and very well put together she certainly knew what suited her
Kev doesnt do it for me but it would be a boring world if we all fancied the same type of man and a, long queue 😂

x2boys · 02/08/2021 19:56

@WheresThatCatGoneNow

Yes, x2boys, that's exactly what I like about her aswell.

And she's always so good to look at! Do you know what I mean?

Glowing skin, fabulous shiny hair, perfectly styled clothes! Eyelashes to die for! Who wouldn't enjoy looking at her?

I'm a gay man, and even I enjoy looking at her! Because she always looks so polished and glowing.

Although I enjoy looking at Kevin and the very impressive bulge in his jeans just a little bit more!

But that's just me - you can't please everybody all the time, can you?

You Do make me smile though your attention to detail is exemplary. 😍

He wasent related to Jack and Vera but it will become apparent they were kind of substitute parents to him.

Hopefully drippy zoe and her boring story line is coming to an end soon
I think Joanne Froggatt is a great actress but this role didnt do her justice
She is unnecessarily awful to Ashley, who tbh needs to kick her into touch

Akire · 03/08/2021 20:58

I’m still loving this but this cult has been going on forever now. Poor Sally I’ve no idea what happens next or is she gets back with Kevin

x2boys · 03/08/2021 21:00

She does but not for a long time yet, the cult storyline is annoying

eggandonion · 03/08/2021 22:26

Brookside had a cult thing too. People being involved in cults and freed from cults was big in magazines late twentieth century. I used to read about it in the hairdressers.

@Akire
Les was moaning about being in agony - Martin refused to give him stronger painkillers when he took the drugs trolley round - guy on the ward took a turn for the worse - they all called for Martin to save the day (of course, who else could do it!) - Les seized his chance - Martin had left the drugs unlocked - he took some strong stuff off the trolley.

The painting of Nick that Leanne wanted signed and dated - I wouldn't use that to line cat's litter tray - just saying.

Greg's turned overnight into a lush - what took Peter B 5 years to manage, he did in a couple of days. Poor old Sally (am I mean for quite enjoying her getting her comeuppance?)

Yep, every soap going had a religious cult storyline. It got beyond tedious.

Still, it goes to show that when people complain about every storyline being an ‘issue’ these days, it’s actually been like that for at least 25 years!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 04/08/2021 13:49

I definitely preferred it when every storyline wasn't an issue - or something ridiculously dramatic!

I liked Corrie when it was gentle, and nothing much ever happened to anybody.

The scenes were so much longer and slower paced, and the dialogue was fabulous and/or funny and heart-breaking in equal measure.

Do you know what I mean?

eggandonion · 04/08/2021 13:56

Yes,absolutely. Even the lighter storylines now are irritating.

WomanStanleyWoman · 04/08/2021 16:39

People laugh about the invisible children in modern Corrie, but that must have been the first time we’ve seen Sarah-Lou in about a year!

Seeing Jackie and Tyrone together brings home how ridiculous the whole ‘Jackie stole him after he was abandoned’ storyline was. I don’t know why they didn’t just make Maureen Lipman Jackie’s estranged mother, or Tyrone’s paternal grandmother.

WomanStanleyWoman · 04/08/2021 16:42

I just looked it up, and Sarah-Lou was only in nine episodes that year!

x2boys · 04/08/2021 16:46

Next time we will be seeing Sarah - Lou she will have a, different head 😂
Yeah the Jackie stole Tyrone storyline was just daft, i dont watch modern corrie much i just catch bits here and there.

Akire · 04/08/2021 17:31

Is Gail supposed to be much older than Her husband? She’s was not looking great today.

Even though Sally only has £10k probable enough buy 1/3 of a house on the street in those days!

x2boys · 04/08/2021 17:53

Yes shes supposed to be about 10 years older than martin.

Akire · 04/08/2021 18:00

I do like their detail to reality. A whole hospital ward with patients a whole supermarket. A pub full of people feels so crowded compared to now. We just get single bed with empty waiting room.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 04/08/2021 22:47

I remember when I was at secondary school in 1983 (aged about 13)

When everybody was talking about 'last night's telly' in the playground, Corrie was always dismissed as 'boring', and 'only for old people'!

Brookside was the new, racy alternative in those days!

But, how many of us now, who were teenagers in the 1980s, have been absolutely loving Classic Corrie for the last few years, since ITV3 began showing episodes starting around 1986?

I really wish they'd show all the episodes from the very beginning in 1960.

Akire · 05/08/2021 07:34

It does tend have far more middle age to older characters than now. Teenagers are rare and more likely be married working and getting on with life not 19 and waited on hand and foot by their parents and refusing to do anything.

eggandonion · 05/08/2021 08:41

Apart from Ken, Curly and Andy has anyone managed to get a degree? Toyah?

x2boys · 05/08/2021 15:43

Did i just spot Michael Crawford doing a cameo in the rovers? Confused

Tenementfunster · 05/08/2021 15:58

Just looked it up ... yes apparently he had a cameo dec 1998. I must look out for him.

Manzanilla55 · 06/08/2021 18:31

Poor Ashley saying goodbye to Zoe... Bless.

x2boys · 06/08/2021 19:09

She was right though Ashley was a lovely man, but he too nice and kind i wouldnt have fancied him at zoe, s age either
