Anyone coming to watch with me?

The judges on this show are such miseries. I like Andi being in the kitchen. Maybe it would be better to replace the grumpy judges with three of the chefs.

Sunbird24 · 10/04/2021 21:54

Agreed, they were particularly grumpy tonight!

Watching on catchup and wow you're right they are grumps and cutting off the guest when he's positive.

Stellaris22 · 11/04/2021 14:42

I've never really liked these judges as they can be very negative. I mainly watch it because I think Andi is absolutely fantastic.

jay55 · 12/04/2021 11:32

I really enjoy Andi in the kitchen and her extra comments on how to improve dishes for the final table. But equally I miss her in the judging room. As she would speak up and over the men.

MichelleofzeResistance · 14/04/2021 20:11

Am I going mad, or did BBC 2 just show the first welsh heat from 7-8 pm as scheduled, and then start repeating the exact same episode from 8pm instead of whatever it was on the schedule???!

Was this some attempt to show the axed London final they cancelled on Friday that they've spectacularly messed up on, or have I misunderstood what's happening here?

FlattestWhite · 14/04/2021 21:00

You're going mad, or maybe there were different BBC regions with different things - I don't know what was on between 7 and 8 here, but at 8, they started showing some home improvement thing, despite the schedule saying Great British Menu.

EsmaCannonball · 14/04/2021 21:04

I am hoping they bring Alex Greene back as a guest chef-judge. I really liked him and the other finalists from the last series.

MichelleofzeResistance · 14/04/2021 21:06

....very very weird!

Here, it was definitely the same GBM episode twice in a row. It recorded from 7-8 because I thought initially I was somehow watching the recording and checked. And the home improvement just started now at nine with an announcement about "and now later than billed".

Someone needs to get hold of the person lining things up tonight and get the glass out of their hands....

lettingthedaysgoby · 14/04/2021 21:09

Ooh, checking in! Love GBM and just watched the first Welsh one. Some top quality chefs in this series!

Duckington · 14/04/2021 21:13

I’d like to know where the “storm in a teacup” crockery came from

Think being bee is getting to a couple of these Welsh chefs, or maybe I’m just a bit underwhelmed because they’re after the London lot who all did really well in every round

Duckington · 14/04/2021 21:14

New, not bee

jay55 · 15/04/2021 18:01

Just watching the first Welsh one on catchup. None of them made a canapé.

Sunbird24 · 15/04/2021 20:04

How is a woman who worked at Bletchley Park a Welsh innovator? Sure she was involved in something ace, but she didn’t actually invent or create anything, there were quite a few other ladies doing the exact same thing at the time

OP posts:
jay55 · 15/04/2021 20:16

I don't mind the flexibility of the brief this time. At least they're mostly giving it a really good go, unlike with the children's books.

jay55 · 15/04/2021 20:16

But I'm not sure I'd eat the black leek purée.

Sunbird24 · 15/04/2021 20:37

Lots of lamb & leeks as you’d expect this week

OP posts:
jay55 · 15/04/2021 20:46

I'm not sure I fancy any of the dessserts.

Sunbird24 · 15/04/2021 20:54

Ali definitely going home

Anyone watching tonight? I LOVE Rachel Khoo’s dress- wish I knew where it was from!

Duckington · 16/04/2021 20:46

I like her dress too, but I find her really annoying.

Walkingtheplank · 16/04/2021 20:53

She's very negative.

FeatheredHope · 16/04/2021 20:58

I am hating Rachel Khoo in this and can’t get past the uncomfortable feeling that she’s been brought on simply as a bit of totty to sit between two pensionable old men. But that’s possibly just me being a grump.

Ontheboardwalk · 16/04/2021 22:24

Loved Andi as judge, didn’t get her last year, but am loving her this year. She seems so much more involved and I love hearing her opinions which I think got lost last year

I want Dr Hugh Hunt for dinner at my house

Am re watching series 5 on Food. I’d forgotten Daniel Clifford failed to get through on his 2nd attempt and ignored advice from Glynn Parnell, who beat him the first time, and got slatted by the judges for the exact things Glynn said

EsmaCannonball · 17/04/2021 08:49

Andi balanced out the male judges being total miseryguts, but Rachel is just adding to the miserygutsness. The science-y guests seem far more representative of the potential banquet attendees. The end of the week always seems so deflating.

I always think it's a flaw in the format that a chef can do a stellar dish in the heats which doesn't go forward because another chef does an overall better menu. It rarely feels like we end up with all the best dishes.
