New thread!

Sad Sal. Thought she'd be safe after the drink flask.

Well that was lovely. So sad that it's over though. Sad

We collect Art Deco ceramics (not Clarice) so we were even more invested in this weeks challenge. I thought all of them were great, in their own ways, but Jodie was obviously the winner. Her shapes were stunning and she really captured the feeling of art deco design. Did anyone else notice that they didn't show Jodie's ladle being tested? They showed the others, but not hers. I wonder why that was.

Was irrationally annoyed with Adam though. As soon as he said that he was going pastel I thought "oh no". Had a flashback to Sal and her pot rim and worried that it would be a bad idea. You would have thought he would have learnt by now that putting your own spin on something is a bad idea. Having said that it did look amazing, if a tad impractical.

What I absolutely loved is that they all seemed such lovely people. Not enough of that on the tv.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2021 08:10

Adam just went with Miami Art Deco rather than British. I don't think there was anything wrong with that really.

knittingaddict · 15/03/2021 08:17

@SoupDragon

I disliked Siobhan less by the end but I didn't really like her as host.
I tend to agree. She was fine, but previous hosts have been better. I thought she was quite distracting for the potters sometimes in a way that I've not seen before.
SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/03/2021 09:36

Oh - I liked her from the start. I also wear "Harlot Scarlet" lipstick.

I felt a sisterly bond . . .

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/03/2021 09:36

@SoupDragon

a couple of the rugs were so massive

I see a new series: Magic Carpet Ride. Watch 12 rug makers weave their way to become champion.

Same.

Plus, I'm just not a pastels person, though sometimes those "ice cream" colours look gorgeous (his did). I loved his punch bowl.

But not as much as I loved Jodie's. And her flask was brilliant!

I'm still pining for a Great British Crochet and/or Knitting) Challenge. It would have to be incredibly gentle, because you'd have to allocate hours to each task, so a lot of it would just be people sitting around chatting about when they can get their hair done, how the supermarket fucked up their online shop and how useless Boris is, just like in my local crochet group Grin

That sounds ideal, Nith

A 2-hour programme every week for three months sound perfect..

"You have 15 minutes to finish your line and then it's needles down!"

(DH always says that he's going to have "She finally finished her line" put on my gravestone if I go first.)

SoupDragon · 15/03/2021 10:09

The problem is, crochet is slow and rather dull to watch. Sue Perkins crocheted a burger on Grayson Perry's Art Club last week and her hours of work had to be edited down to a few minutes.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2021 10:11

Art Deco isn't all garish Clarice Cliffe though. Adam's was spot on for Miami Art Deco.

florentina1 · 15/03/2021 10:18

I am really going to miss this programme. I told DD about it and she loved it. She decide to give it a go herself doing dry clay modelling. She made me this for Mother’s Day.

florentina1 · 15/03/2021 10:20

Oops

I love those florentina

Aren’t you lucky??? 😍

bruffin · 15/03/2021 11:55

They are gorgeous Florentina

Oh, I know it won't happen. Realistically, they wouldn't be able to build up any artificial tension around it by imposing artificial deadlines, which they seem to think is essential for these programmes. But there is some really beautiful knitted and crocheted stuff around which could validly be celebrated.
Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 15/03/2021 12:39

I loved adams pieces and they were SO striking but pretty but not too cutesy colours, a very strong and cohesive look. If they were ok with “international Art Deco” they should have gone with his.

If the judges were looking for “uk Art Deco” pieces then Peter should’ve won - LOVED his concept. So thoughtful and beautifully done, it was a delightful set.

Whereas I didn’t really like jodies at all Blush I thought the finish wasn’t great and the colours with that pattern didn’t strike me as being very Art Deco. The finish overrode the design so I lost sight of any Art Deco shapes. Also noticed they didn’t show the ladle or actually any of the set in detail, but if you paused the screen it didn’t show good execution.

Not for the final challenge but jodie did deserve to win overall, she’s done such stellar stuff and performed very consistently. Was going to say she’s so lovely too but aren’t they all! A really special bunch :)

So there’s the sewing bee and portrait artist of the year and the bake off... we need more shows!

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 15/03/2021 12:41

Oh my gosh at the actual potters on this thread! florentina1 those are beautiful, what a lovely gift!

kittykarate · 15/03/2021 12:48

I thought the colours for his Miami art deco were too wishy-washy to be honest. If you look at some of the buildings, yes there are pastels, but generally mixed with at least one strong colour as an accent.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/03/2021 13:00

Those buildings are gorgeous kitty - and you are right - the salmon pink or cobalt blue with a paler shade really grabs the attention.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2021 13:02

They aren't all that bright though. I've just wandered around on Street View.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2021 13:15

The buildings in that image look very different on Streetview. I can't post a screenshot of it as it's too big apparently.

kittykarate · 15/03/2021 13:45

It looks like they were refurbing/repainting the Crescent on street view. The Mcalpin does look less vibrant on street view (but still, less sad ice cream flavours than Adam's work)

Meh. I thought the colours were perfect.

And much nice than the garishness of the other two actually but that's just personal taste.

I don't disagree with Jodie as the winner though, even though
I didn't like hers.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2021 14:03

I think Adam's looks very like the Streetview McApline.
