New thread!

Sad Sal. Thought she'd be safe after the drink flask.

Thank you my lovely! Smile

Now. To business.

An absolute outrage.

Alon I’ve loved, even though he has been on a shoogly peg.

But Sal?

Fuming. I too had her for the win and to be my resident potter what a load of auld toot. Angry

Team Pete or Adam now.

IntermittentParps · 01/03/2021 13:18

Thanks for the new thread!

GUTTED about Sal. She was the best. OK, she didn't fully stick to the brief, but I agree with a comment on the last thread: 'Also think it’s a bit of a stretch to be so insistent on the brief now Alon has been wildly reinterpreting it each week, with little or nothing said.'
Hannah is a messy and slapdash potter and a wet individual IMO. Her pots weren't well decorated; dazzle ships are very precise and geometric and hers were a bit childish.

On the bright side, Peter is having a late blooming and it's lovely to see. Him and Keith crying together His pots were beautiful.

Oh well, in the absence of Sal I'm Team Jodie. She's arty yet technically assured, straight-talking yet in touch with her emotions, has a beautiful accent, and is a little bit crackers.

TangerineGenie · 01/03/2021 18:31

I think it was the wrong choice.

Alon didn't make the pots the right shape, had hardly any design and his seed pod had a huge hole. Sal's had the lip, but her small pot was good, she had some good design and she won the second challenge. So I think it would have been easy to justify sending Alon and not Sal. There have been other weeks where there have been much more varied results where sending 2 home would make more sense.

Might as well do away with the spot challenge too if totally disregarding it.

GoofyIsACow · 01/03/2021 19:58

Thank you for the new thread!

I think I’m team Jodie now, I really like her!

Although I do really like all of them who are left so will just enjoy the watch.

Graciebobcat · 01/03/2021 20:55

Just caught up. I'm disgusted that Sal was sent home, it has totally ruined a fantastic show with such talented potters for me.

MoltenLasagne · 01/03/2021 21:14

So upset about Sal - glad to see others are equally outraged.

Egghead68 · 01/03/2021 22:49

Basically Sal was sent home just for putting a rim on her pot.

I don’t know what the point of the second challenge is. Both the last two people to win it were sent home. Does it count at all in the scoring?

RunningFromInsanity · 01/03/2021 23:02

Unbelievable that Sal did the best ring bottle and went, and yet Jodie with her terrible arrows and awful bottle gets through Angry

Furbylicious · 02/03/2021 08:12

This!

I would have been sad to see Sal go if she'd messed up- as I was Shenyue- but it really was the smallest of design choices she was penalised for. It feels like it wouldn't have mattered how good the pot was, once she decided to add a lip then it was game over, they could have just looked at the design sketches and decided then!

Persipan · 02/03/2021 08:19

They had to send two home at some point, though, 'cos they had that week when they didn't send anyone. I did like both Alon and Sal a lot, but I can see that they had to have something to pick up the people they sent home on. I'm not sure it was the best choice of challenge, tbh, it essentially ended up with everyone making something pretty similar and there was relatively little room for things to go disastrously wrong technically.

The thing I really like about it this year is the sense that they're all so close that they'd quite happily not have a competition at all, never send anyone home, and just have a lovely time pottering along together for however many episodes.

Sparkletastic · 02/03/2021 08:24

Initially I accepted their decision to send Sal home due to the rim on her pot but now time has passed I think it was a misjudgement. She's been so consistently strong and won the other challenge. She was my clear favourite to win. It's such a shame as this was a great series and I feel a bit deflated about it now.

MoltenLasagne · 02/03/2021 08:38

I'm sad that Sal has gone just because it's so rare to see older women on TV just being allowed to be really good at what they do (and she really was one of the best).

So many of the other contestants have had major flaws overlooked, but Sal gets chucked out because they didn't like her interpretation of the brief.

ThroughThinkandThing · 02/03/2021 09:28

Not hugely impressed with that decision. If they needed to send two home, what about sending Henry home with Shenyue when his pots were all broken and the design wasn't great? Or Peter (much as I love him) home with Henry last week when his bath cracked/leaked so badly?

Sal's pots were great, especially the seed pot, she won the throwdown challenge, and as people have already said - since when was reinterpreting a brief (in a fairly minor way too!) a leaving offence?

It would have been incredibly easy to justify sending Alon home along (though I do like the way he pushed the boundaries, and actually really liked his origami pots - though not the decoration).

viques · 02/03/2021 09:34

I was Team Sal with a side order of Team Jodie. Am now Team Jodie with a side order of Peter.

Though I do like Adam, he might not be the best in the technical challenges but I love his design skills. Hannah sadly doesn’t seem to have either design or technical ability as a strength.

TangerineGenie · 02/03/2021 09:52

once she decided to add a lip then it was game over, they could have just looked at the design sketches and decided then!

Yep, if it was such a big no that nothing else she did could overcome that decision (i.e. it didn't matter that her small pot was good, or her bottle was the best) they should have said at design stage.

Djangor3725 · 02/03/2021 09:52

This is Sal's website plus she is linked to the Bowji Gallery in Cornwall. No dogs available in the online shop yet, sadly.

Love this programme & all the potters get a lot of experience if they just last a few weeks. I tend to prefer the projects in the earlier weeks where the individual potters special talents often come out.

ElspethFlashman · 02/03/2021 10:13

I'm conflicted because surely it wouldn't be fair to someone who did a "proper" pot to get chucked out when Sal did one that was wrong?

And I get it, literally the characteristics of those specific pots were a) the design style and b) the shape. Changing the shape just made them into any old pot with a pretty design.

I just googled acoma pottery and oh my goodness it's beautiful! But absolutely nothing like Sals shape. It's meant to be a lot more bulbous too.

So whilst I was shocked, I think it was The only fair decision. There are weaker potters in there but they did both design and shape in the spirit of the original pots.

Team Peter here. I love Peter, he's so lovely and has improved so much. He really really works hard at it.

TangerineGenie · 02/03/2021 10:23

I think you could argue that Hannah had a rubbish design and a rubbish bottle. If it was purely about the shape of the pot then why have the design element?

Floralnomad · 02/03/2021 10:29

They really should have done the double elimination on ‘bust’ week when Henry should have gone as well . That said if it came to who were the worse 2 on this week the correct decision was made and you can’t say anything about Sal winning challenge 2 as they had got rid of Henry the week before when he also won challenge 2 IIRC . I do think that it’s fair to judge just on what is produced that week rather than how they’ve done all along . I really liked Sal at the start but we went off her a bit when she threw her toys out of the pram on the musical instrument challenge a few weeks back . I don’t mind any of the ones left but I’d like to see Peter , Adam and Jodie in the final .

timegoesbysoslowly · 02/03/2021 10:33

Shocked that Sal went, thought she'd win it, bet the others are secretly glad now the win is anyone's

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 02/03/2021 12:22

Crynkeef - you really would be crying if you’d have been in my vicinity when you binned Sal.

Your ears would be burning that much they’d have melted.

And you’d have been raku’d.

IntermittentParps · 02/03/2021 13:12

we went off her a bit when she threw her toys out of the pram on the musical instrument challenge a few weeks back.
It was just about the mildest toys out of the pram moment you could imagine Grin

PurpleDaisies · 02/03/2021 13:14

It was a mistake to send Sal home. She was nailed on for the final in my book. I’m team Jodie or Adam now. I was glad Alon went-I always found him irritating.

CosmicVagina · 02/03/2021 13:18

Very sad to see Sally go, I pegged her to win.

SoupDragon · 02/03/2021 13:21

I think it was right to send Sal home. The brief was "make this shaped pot" and she didn't. She knew it was wrong too.

Along has pushed the brief before but this is the first time with such a specific shape isn't it? I loved the shake of his with the folded top but or wad wrong for the brief and his decoration was crap.

I suppose they had to ditch 2 at some point after the week where no one went so having 2 who didn't follow the brief was convenient.
