It was just about the phone wasn't it
So she just thought he wouldn't be very happy about her saying he was on the phone too much because he wouldn't agree
That's all I took it for

TheVolturi · 05/04/2021 09:01

Have a feeling the rich couple won't be so rich in ten years time.
I liked Mel in the poor couple, but the other one (soph?) was a bit annoying!

purpleme12 · 05/04/2021 09:08

Well it'd interesting to see

I didn't think the rich couple got anything from the experience

TippledPink · 05/04/2021 09:18

If I took part in this as the poor person and ended up in that 'rich' flat I would so disappointed! Did you hear them say they were imagining pulling up on a massive drive with a fountain- they didn't quite get that experience!

purpleme12 · 05/04/2021 09:23

Yes true!

zukiecat · 05/04/2021 12:40

Just watching it now.

I don't like the rich guy, seems very judgemental.

Liking the poor couple so far.

RedHotChiliChips · 05/04/2021 13:16

It does look like they are struggling to find rich families to take part.

The rich guy in this latest episode says he made his millions in drop shipping. I'd love to know more details as it is incredibly saturated field.

The other wife of the poor couple was so excited to have her own website but I'm dreading to think how she'll feel when she discovers how hard it is to gain organic traffic in a sea of billion of other poster shops. Running a website also incurs a monthly cost and by the looks of it the rich guy was using Shopify platform so I assume this is what he'll based the poor woman's website on too. The cheapest plan is $29 per month and if she doesn't make sales, it's money they can't afford to throw away. I agree with him using print on demand with the poster business though, I'm quite amazed that the poor woman wasn't aware of this at all.

I have quite liked the series over the years as they tend to pick two families who are both hard workers in their own ways and usually two married couples with school age children. I suspect they are now running out of people who are exactly what they want. Business people who are well off may want to do it to market their business and grow sales. Not so well off people might just want a week's holiday in a luxury mansion and see how the other half live. I too would be fed up if I were put in a high rise flat of a richer person on a swap!

TheVolturi · 05/04/2021 15:55

The guy that gave the girls advice, the one that suggested print on demand, I thought he gave them false hope really. Off top of my head he said something like you only need to sell 20 things a day dropshipping and you've made 15-20k a month. That would be something like quite high value items with at least £30 pure profit to make that amount. She was never going to make that amount per print and I'm sure he knows that!

jay55 · 05/04/2021 18:36

"And now he makes money telling other people how to make money" says the visiting friend.
So another snake oil mentor.

I'd have liked to have heard more about the underwear business.

The poor couple need proper debt management advice. They don't have nearly £60 a week, they have less than zero.

15 prints a day every month equals £10k

I was how much. But divide it and if prints are £21 each that’s the £10k

Tho obv need that every day every week every month

OP posts:
TippledPink · 05/04/2021 20:48

I'm guessing with that amount of money to spend for the week they could have paid for childcare.

purpleme12 · 05/04/2021 21:12

To be honest I'm guessing the poor families use their family for childcare anyway if they need to do some filming etc by themselves

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/04/2021 21:33

True. They aren’t going to leave lone

Just a shame they don’t swap kids anymore

I quite liked this programme back when it first started. I’m really not liking it now.

It’s happened a couple of times now in this series, the whole “ooh, look how the rich people hustled some extra spends by washing windows/cars or haggled money off their food shop”. Erm, it’s because those people have a camera crew filming them, they’re hardly going to say no! Try doing that on a normal day and no crew - fat chance!

Am also hating the whole mentoring crap. I hope, before any of them are mentored” that they ask to see the actual worth of their mentors, rather than what’s written on paper. Until that cash is in your own bank account, it’s very easy to value your worth as more!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2021 05:12

S1 is on at the moment on think ch5 so Im recording that

Nice families. Tho again often the number of children is a problem. Recent family had 6 little ones

OP posts:
Xenia · 08/04/2021 08:03

Yes, I remember the early series there would always be a badly off couple who had children in their teens and quite a lot of them and a well educated better off family who put children off for 10 or 15 years after that and bought a house before children came and that was often a main reason for difference in outcomes.

My grandfather had my father at 49 and dd not marry until he was over 30. My parents didn't have children for 8 years after they married and worked full time in 2 professional jobs - teacher/doctor bought a house and only then had me. We were similar - bought a house on two professional jobs - teacher and lawyer before baby no. 1 came. My child has done the same too. I am not saying that getting a professional job like teaching or buying a house is easy or even possible however for lots of people.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2021 11:53

I’ve said before. I don’t get why people keep having children if struggling for money

They can’t all be accidents

OP posts:
Lantanacamara · 08/04/2021 12:44

Blondes I come from a culture that has a lot of children, and the reality is that until very recently you were financially better off having more children than going out to work a minimum wage job. Our benefit system was very generous in that respect. I suspect that is why families have more children, because they want more and they knew financially it wasn't going to hinder them. It's then very easy to turn around and say "I can't afford to work, poor me".

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2021 13:11

Oh true. The benefit def works for those who don’t want to work especially with Pre school child

OP posts:
Lantanacamara · 08/04/2021 13:18

Yes quite a few of the "poor" families claimed that once the woman had had a baby she had to give up work due to childcare costs, but many people on low incomes work and get a large % of the childcare back. Not being able to work and preferring to stay at home are quite different.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2021 13:25

Plus one could work beings cleaning offices or working at local Tesco /stains etc but they never do

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/04/2021 22:10

Has it ended
